A lighthouse with a red metal cylindrical tower made in the Le Havre plant in France was erected on Håubjarre Hill, the highest spot on Ruhnu Island, in 1877. The metal tower is more than a hundred years old and still in working order.Interesting facts:• the height of the lighthouse is 39.5 metres, 65 metres above seal level• it is the only lighthouse of its type left in the Baltic Sea region• the tower was designed by the same engineer who created the detailed plan of the Eiffel Tower (Gustave Eiffel)

Finished in 2008, this modern library building is fully covered in clear glass, so that unity with the town can be felt through the facades. The brightly lit house is especially inviting on long dark winter nights.Good to know! The architects of this building were awarded the Estonian Cultural Capital Architecture Prize of the Year. Here you can use the Internet and see interesting exhibitions. The library stands on the site of the medieval Parnu order castle. The walls of the castle have partly been marked on the pavement in front of the building. They had still been visible after World War II, but during the construction of the Stalinist central square, the walls were demolished.

The Chicory Museum is an informative, small museum where you’ll learn about farming chicory and you can examine different farming tools and methods . The small coffee shop serves delicious coffee and home made cakes . Extra thanks to the nice gentleman working here who took extra time to tell us about printing techniques using a wooden block . The highlight of our tour along the Onion Route :)

Narva's Information Centre is housed in a beautiful building on Peetri Plats. Run by excellent English- speaking staff who wil l give you all the advice, maps and pamphlets you need to enjoy your stay in Narva. It also has a gift shop. Whatsmore, Peetri Plats is where the East meets the West frontier border lies for vehicles and people crossing to and from Russia. Which might be of particular interest with Brexit possibly looming ?

One of the best tourist information centres I have ever seen in all my travels over forty years! Our only regret? We did not plan to stay for longer in this lovely city!! We were staying in Helsinki for a week, and then we decided to do a day trip to Tallinn. My advice: if you go to Tallinn on a day trip from Helsinki, make a beeline for this office, in the heart of the Old Town (anybody can tell you where it is, or you can find it on Google Maps). All the staff here speak English (apart from a number of other languages!) and they are most helpful. with any kind of advice. Most important, several free walking tours leave the tourist office, at various times. There is a large board inside, which lists all the tours available that day. We had time for only two tours: Medieval Tallinn, and Communist Era. Both were absolutely fabulous. Of course, though "free", the tour leaders expect a small tip for their efforts. We felt they were so good, we gave them very generous tips. After all, Estonia is not a very rich country, and these tours are being conducted by young and very enthusiastic amateurs (mostly history students). The tourist office has excellent maps, and if you are staying longer in Tallinn they can help with all sorts of arrangements: accomodation, transport, etc..etc... As I said, we were on a day trip, so we did not need any of these additional services. In conclusion: if you are on a day trip from Helsinki (as most visitors to Tallinn seem to be !!) don't waste your time going anywhere else, just come here and ask them for advice. Very friendly, cheerful, and helpful staff!
