Nice and quiet

We are a family of 4 so we had one of the 2 bedroom villas. Perfect for 4 of us. We had 2 bathrooms, both set partially outside which was lovely. The kitchen was also set outside and not many mozzies considering. There is a water cooler which stops the waste from loads of individual plastic bottles every day. I did buy some coils and set them in the bathrooms for the evening. Breakfast is ordered and delivered to your villa or you can have it by the pool. The choice is not big but there is something for everyone and it is delicious. There are only 4 villas so a really nice, quiet, family place. The staff are great, particularly Andy. They will help you to organise anything. We did a day trip snorkelling to Gili Nanggu which Andy organised and it was fabulous. You can walk to Kuta beach but the better beaches are accessed by car or scooter which the resort can organise. Shu Villas has a fabulous restaurant set up on the hills overlooking Kuta Lombok. We just asked for a car to take us up there one night for dinner. It is a 5 minute walk to the main street for warungs, bars, shops, ATM's and money changers. We had 5 nights and it was fabulous. We would definitely stay at Shu Villas again.

Very bad experience

Reviewed By julia000000000000

We went to Lavella Villas a day before as we had planned to move there from another hotel in Kuta. We agreed on a price for a five nights stay, which the guy at the reception wrote down for us (see picture)! We had even filled out the registration form. When we arrived there the day after, we were told that the room was available for only two nights instead of five. Also, the Price we had agreed on the day before was apparently wrong and we should pay almost 50% more. No discount was offered for the inconvenience whatsoever...very bad customer service!

Not worth the price and worth sacrificing personal safety

tl;dr: - nice place to stay, but nothing super fancy - bungalows are poorly soundproofed, which can come unhandy with bad neighbors - management not doing their job Kies Villas is a typical 4-star accommodation: a cozy place in a quiet area. Nothing super fancy and modern, just nice. We stayed in one of their 'Exotic Bungalows'. These are 3 small houses build in Sasak style, which means that they are mainly made of bamboo. Due to that fact, the walls are not very soundproof. Because we stayed in the middle of the 3 houses, we had 2 neighbors. Two couples on each side. We were able to hear both of them, which wasn't a problem in the beginning, but it became one. One couple - a tiny old Australian guy with his sugar babe - enjoyed hearing loud techno music on their balcony. Additionally he was compensating his height with the volume of his voice. So we were well informed whether he was telling his sugar babe about his intention to go to the bathroom (number two) or what type of food they ordered via room service 'lombok vegetables in garlic butter'. That is half of the gap to the 2 instead of 4 points rating. We were annoyed by them, so we talked to the management and let them know about our complaint. The management did talk to the neighbors which led to him turning the music down a bit, but the music was playing the whole evening, so I went to our neighbors terrace and asked them if they could spend the evening without their music. I invited them to come to our place, so they could hear how loud it was - through the bamboo, it was nearly as loud as they heard it themselves. The man got upset and was uncomprehending. He got up, stood in front of me and Cussed and cursed at me. His screaming got the managements and the security guards attention so they came to the terrace. The man grabbed my arm and was trying to push me back of his terrace, so the staff intervened and seperated us. My wife and I wanted the management to offer us a solution, how we could proceed from that point. Later we were able to hear the man threaten to punch me, knock me down and spit on us the next day through the paper thin walls of the bungalows. At this point, moving to a different room not directly next to this 'gentleman' was no longer an option for us as we feared for our personal safety. When telling the management about wanting to leave the next day, their first response was that we had to pay for 6 nights (instead of just the 4 nights that we stayed). They said we had to pay the 6 nights, because it is our fault for wanting to cancel, we behaved wrongly, because I was trying to talk to the man directly like a rational adult. So the management and it's poor judgement of the situation (although they were standing next to the screaming man) lost the second star for Kies Villas. We cancelled our stay the next morning and moved to the next location. Conclusion: Kies Villas is a nice place, but there is no guarantee for the guest to have the best time there. 2 stars.

This was my second stay at the Mawun Raya. This visit was during the start of the pandemic and as I had booked flights and was still able to travel I went ahead. I was very well looked after by the staff and enjoyed relaxing by the pool and the casual relaxing atmosphere. The area is great for exploring, not too far from Kuta but close enough to all the local amenities. Thanks again for a perfect stay and I look forward to visiting again.

Great location and great owner!

Reviewed By Giorgia C

We spent 3 nights in this hotel right by the beach of Kuta Lombok. Valerie, the owner, a german lady, made sure our stay was very pleasant and all the details were taken care of. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. One piece of advice: unless you are muslim avoid going towards the end of Ramadam as everywhere on the island they read the Koran through very loud speakers 5 times a day, first one around 3:30 am...impossible not to wake up every single night.

Hostel experience at hotel price.

Reviewed By Jules_durst

We stayed for 10 days in one of the double rooms with sea view. Pros: Beautiful view, comfy bed, decent size room, 2 small pools so it's never too crowded, parking spot, good selection of movies to watch in the room. Cons: Where to start... 1) The price!! I can't believe how much we paid for our 10 night stay compared to what we got ($83 per night approx.). We thought that by splashing out a bit we would be guaranteed some quality accommodation. How wrong we were. It should be noted that we were there over Xmas so expect that costs do increase during those few days, however, for the remainder of our time there, there was no-one else or very few people staying there. 2) Untrustworthy staff. We found out when we got home that $200 had gone from my husbands bag that had stayed in the hotel for the duration of the trip. We kept our door locked anytime we weren't in our room but had to leave our key for cleaning during the day because they only have 1 key for each room (!!!). I am sure they are not all untrustworthy and some of them were very lovely (lady in the kitchen and the young boy working there in particular). 3) No door to the bathroom/toilet. Seriously. Just a shower curtain between the bedroom and toilet and a wall that doesn't go all the way up to the ceiling. Awkward. I'm not that close to anyone in my life. $83 a night and no toilet privacy. 4) Poor WiFi. Due to the staff sitting and using it all day it would run out so checking surf reports, eateries, things to do, etc. became tiresome/difficult. We did have 4G on our phones, but signal is not great up there. We had no signal in our room for either wifi or 4G. 5) No satellite TV (as advertised). 6) Directions. We were aware of the difficulty of driving on the road up to the 'hotel', so we had no issues with that, however, it didn't help that google maps has the location in the wrong place. This could be easily solved with a couple of signs along the road but the 'hotel' hasn't got round to doing this (despite a reviewer mentioning this back in September). 7) No fridge in the room (however, we were able to use a common fridge in the restaurant) 8) Staff are super lazy. It wouldn't take much to make this a great place but it's not going to happen under the current management/staff. 9) Ran out of water on 2 days. It took trying to flush a toilet to be told this - staff knew but hadn't informed any of the guests. It was resolved within a few hours on both occasions. 10) Flies everywhere. This did seem to be a general problem on the island but the hygiene of the kitchen did not seem to be great and when asking for a knife on numerous occasions a swarm of flies would be disturbed when they got one out of the cutlery rack. We did not eat here other than for the already paid for breakfast. 11) Got asked if we would move rooms one day as the new guests had asked for good air con! We declined (aircon was fine but we had it on 16 deg. for the entire time - in comparison, I would normally sleep at 23 deg. in the same environment). I would not recommend staying here - there are definitely better options for a better price.

Awesome place

Villa Joey was Great! The rooms were huge with a big balcony with couches and chairs. It was very clean with a nice infinity pool. It is close scooter ride to beaches and the town which are available for rent at the resort. The chef will cook you a personalized breakfast every morning which was amazing. It is a great place for people who are adventurous and love to travel around but love to come back at night to a nice “homey” feel. Aside from the beautiful villas the staff was incredible. Rumi was the best! Would recommend 10/10!

Balcony Ocean View Villas

Wow. 100% not recommending to stay here

Reviewed By Kingmurm

We booked for three nights but just left after the first one. First, the place is away from the main road. About 10 mins walk. The road is bumpy, and mud based. Of course this is Lombok so you shouldn't expect great roads everywhere, there are some water buffalo on the way, normally by a wall but we did also see a few on the actual path we were walking on. But these guys are not really an issue. There are many stray dogs. They are fed by people so they are quite happy to come real close to you. You may not like that. At night there is no light. We walked with two phone lights and a head torch when we came back from dinner. It doesn't make you feel that comfortable. I wouldn't want to walk it on my own. The rooms are old and tired. We were told that the floor was broken in our room and needed to be repaired. The bathroom is outside, which in principal is a cool idea as long as you don't mind navigating any catalpillers or other wildlife you might encounter when nature calls. The sea view: the river runs straight into the sea, and I guess because it's rainy season still means the sea is brown in colour. The view of the surrounding hills looks great but I would say as a whole is rather unappealing. You can walk across the beach that way if you want instead of taking the path but then you have to navigate past groups (10 or more) dogs and all the rubbish on the beach. At night there is music noise coming from somewhere close to the beach area. We heard dogs barking most of the night. And didn't get a great sleep. One of the dogs was sat outside our door first thing in the morning. As a positive point the pool is very nice and the Aircon worked well in the room. The staff seem uninterested. Didn't really want to answer any concerns/questions on the dogs or buffalo and didn't really give great recommendations on the tide times. Even when I left the second morning they were more interested in carrying on their phone conversation than to ask why I was giving the key back early. An overall lack of care seems to be given to the place. Couldn't wait to leave. Sometimes you pick a bad place and you deal with it and move on but this time I couldn't wait to book something else and get out! (that placee was great btw!)
