Great rooms but frosty staff

Reviewed By NorthumberlandAlf

This is we think a new hotel. Rooms are spotless and come complete with a washing machine. However, there are no sachets of washing powder provided and one ends up having to buy a large bottle of washing powder that would last a family more than a week from the hotel shop! A real swiz! Staff on the desk need to learn that to smile and exchange a hello and a goodbye costs nothing. They all seem unhappy!

Hoam Sanjang Pension

Nice getaway

Reviewed By thelonious22

If Wonju town isn’t enough of a getaway, Wonju Hoam Cottage Pension located in the more rural Munmak-eup, is a sure thing for some peace and quiet. All units (that are all separate houses) have a river view and a balcony. The interior is a bit old but with the rustic vibe of the place, it was just fine. We appreciated the heated bathroom floors during our winter visit. There is a nice boardwalk that parallels the river which was great for morning/evening hikes. It’s a three kilometer car ride into Munmak town so it’d be best to bring all the food to prepare. We will definitely make a return visit here whenever we need to find some peace.

Pension Lakeview

Last minute Olympic accommodations

Reviewed By Nicholas B

My wife and I decided to attend the 2018 Winter Olympics at the last minute and found this pension as one of the few locations with lodging still available. The price was right and the location was perfect to walk to the Olympic venues and to catch public transit. The room was very clean and well stocked. The owner was friendly and instructed us on how to contact a taxi if needed. He and his wife spoke very limited English, but it caused no issues for us. The pension is walking distance to a few beautiful lakeside parks and cultural areas and the beach. Our only issue was that it seemed like most restaurants and convenience stores were quite a distance away. We were overall very pleased with our accommodations and would recommend the Gangneung Lakeview Pension.

River Chang Pension

Nice getaway

Reviewed By thelonious22

River Chang Pension is one of the dozens of pensions scattered around Yeongwol in relatively secluded areas with good river and/or mountain views. Being just 5 km south of the main town, the location was still convenient for sightseeing but the location still felt isolated. The view of the Namhan River from the balcony was spectacular and we loved having our meal while overlooking the river. The room was clean enough and the hot tub right next to the bed was a bit weird but it was nice having a jacuzzi in the room. The walls were thin which can be a problem if the neighbors are loud. The bathroom was about the same size as an airplane lavatory, but other than that, a pretty good spot for a short getaway.

The Mark Sokcho

VERY VERY CLEAN

Reviewed By Yunah K

this place is brand new - the corner room we had was quiet, had great views and the decor was perfect for vacation- minimal & modern. the one down side- no English translation for the A/C control (which was dense w/ buttons) or the hot water heater (which you need to turn on for the shower). google translate helped but if the Mark expects foreign visitors , they need to step up. despite that, i would definitely book here again.

Lajolla Pension

Beautiful views of the river

Reviewed By HatchHouseGoesGlobal

This pension was perfectly placed on the river, with a gorgeous view from every room. The man who checked us in also did us a great service by driving us to the Animation Museum the next morning. He later found us walking near the Uiamho Lake Skywalk and offered us a ride back to the pension. He brought us a box of breakfast food: cereal, bread, jelly, milk, and a toaster. All of this was free, although it was not supposed to be included in the price of the night’s stay. My only complaint would be that the bed was a little too hard for my taste. I know it is common in Korea to have hard mattresses, so I shouldn’t have been surprised. Otherwise, the room was very comfortable and all the amenities were available: towels, kitchen items, toothpaste, hair dryer, extra bedding with floor mats, and a TV. The pension also had 2 bicycles that were free to ride around.

Rooftop Moonlight

Not as described

Reviewed By asiandy

Misleading: We specifically looked for a pension with a terrace and Rooftop Moonlight seemed to fit the bill since it stated "terrace" and showed photos only of rooms that have a terrace. What do you know? We arrive and no terrace. Just a fixed window. The room: It's a good size but a little sparse in terms of furnishings. The bathroom, in particular, lacks storage/shelving. We kept our toiletries off the wet floor by balancing them on the cistern. Despite plenty of space in the main living area, the staircase is positioned in such a way that it intrudes into the headspace wanted when cooking at the stove. Not a deal-breaker, but poor design. The proprietors: Friendly and attentive but control the room temperature remotely. We stayed during daytime temperatures of 30 degrees yet they switched on the underfloor heating so we baked on our first night and slept badly because of it. Only after calling them the next day did we get the heating switched off and receive a remote control unit for the air-con. The price: 100,000KRW is a lot per night for an unremarkable pension out of season. We were prepared to pay that much only because of the promise of a terrace directly accessible from the room; a terrace that we didn't get. For an extra 15,000 KRW, we were able to have a barbecue on the rooftop. Whether or not there was moonlight on the rooftop, I don't know, because the sky was obscured by a plastic canopy. Overall, it wasn't the accommodation we had hoped for and our misplaced expectations were due entirely to the room being being falsely described. I imagine the proprietors enjoyed our stay more than we did.
