So chilled

Reviewed By Mike S

Before booking, I'd read the TripAdvisor reviews and I was unsure about this place. That said, there wasn't a lot of choice in the area as I was only booking a day or so ahead. It's important to appreciate that El Zonte is tiny and essentially little more than a dirt road with a handful of restaurants and hotels. Olas Permanentes is right on the beach front, which is so cool. Being able to have breakfast, beers, dinner watching the amazing sunsets, was so cool and relaxing. From my perspective, it was a very chilled place. The room was decent. Nothing spectacular but clean and decent size, with aircon. The beer was cold, breakfast (included) was good and with a choice, the staff were friendly, and overall, I was very happy. For people to complain that service is slow, and that they forgot a knife or a napkin, is really to forget it's a chilled beachside place on the Pacific cost! Two things that would improve it: One, to have 1 or 2 more veggie dishes on the menu. I had pretty much the same thing for three nights. I could've wondered up the road but, to be honest I was too chilled to bother. The other thing was to add a 10% charge to the overall bill, including the room costs. I didn't challenge this and I probably should have, so it's my fault, but I found that a bit off. I think this has be mentioned here already. Overall though, I would definitely recommend here.

Fantastic hotel outside Santa Ana, close to many attractions

Reviewed By jkguiter

Stayed here for 4 nights in early October, and I'm so glad we did. It's about a 10 minute drive south of Santa Ana, and near Los Naranjos. The rooms are large and the bathrooms are spacious. The beds are comfortable and provide plenty of nearby outlets. The shower tub was large enough with really good water pressure and hot water every day. The property is very well kept. They host weddings very frequently (two weddings just during out four days), so they keep everything looking very nice. The restaurant is quite convenient. We ate here a couple nights, with a large menu and delicious food (pupusas!). Nice beer selection, too! The breakfast was abundant and delicious, and was included in the price of the stay. Wifi is available, but only in the restaurant. Free parking onsite, which includes a guarded, gated entry, so we felt very safe. While we stayed here, we drove to Santa Ana, Santa Ana volcano, El Imposible national park, Ruta de las Flores, and even drove up to Honduras to see the Copan ruins. The staff was exceptional - very kind and helpful. Would highly recommend this accommodation for solo, couples, or family travel.

Capricho Beach House

Capricho Beach House is a small hotel situated at the beach front of the peninsula Barra de Santiago. This cozy and relaxed place is made in ecological style with palm thatched roofs, rustic motifs, wooden beams and the four rooms share a cool corridor overlooking the beach. The spectacular natural surroundings frame this property with the long stretched sandy beach in front and the still waters of the estuary (lagoon) at the back side. The area is dotted with coconut palms and is frequented by different birds such as humming birds visiting the flowers in the garden. The rooms all have A/C and private bath. There is a lounge area for sun bathing, small palm thatched ranchos at the beach front, a living room and restaurant area. Our hotel offer a restaurant service from 6am to 9pm but if you want to visit other places, the village (3kms away) and the Bocana (1 kms away) are other options for meals. This is the perfect place for nature lovers as the location is conducive to enjoy the amazing wildlife in this protected natural area. Tours into the mangroves to observe birds, reptiles, crocodiles, mammals and the local fishing community´s way of life tops the list along with surf activities, observing the great ocean turtles and other ecological conservation programs. Services available are : board rental, surf classes, boat trips into the estuary or mangroves, fishing trips, night walks to observe turtle lay eggs on the beach and turtle baby release tours. Transport services to International Airport, San Salvador, Ruta de Las Flores, El Imposible and Los Cobanos are available. . Barra de Santiago village is just 3 kms away and is the home of fishermen and their families and a couple of small stores and diners. Common denominator of the area is that it’s very healthy environment where you can feel safe walking around also after dark. To visit the beautiful bocana (tip of the peninsula) it is just a 15 min. walk from Capricho. From here you can observe on clear days the impressive volcanic mountain chain all the way from Cerrro Verde volcanic complex to the Volcanoes of Pacaya, Agua and Fuego of Guatemala. Beyond the mangroves you also spot the green slopes of the El Imposible National Park.

Beach front eco friendly property

We found this as a last minute destination, the host was very nice and provided excellent directions and instructions on how to get there and set the right expectations from the beginning, such as no TV.... It is a bit remote but a great experience. We were a family of 3, and were able to book a room for $100 with A/C, which is a plus given that this time of year is very hot in El Salvador. Service was great, everything was super clean. There are a few areas of opportunity: (not a game charger I'd totally go again) - Kids playground - Food menu could have more options - Parking access for non 4x4 vehicles - Mosquito lamps outside the rooms - Taller tables, inside the rooms, to be able to reach the outlets and charge our devices Lena, the owner, was there and personally asked how our experience had been and she was open to feedback. I have no complaints at all, and if you are looking forward to unplugging yourself from the daily basis, this is for you. We didn't use WIFI but cellphones data worked perfectly fine. Even though is remote, signal is excellent.

Having our wedding here

Reviewed By kody5

So my wife and I are having our ceremonial wedding here and every attempt to contact this venue/location after they received our money has gone nowhere. They have been a ghost as far as coordination and information leading up to our most special day. Every attempt we try to reach out, they are nowhere to be found or heard from. It's a beautiful location so it's a shame we have to leave such a terrible review due to the staff/management/ownership not willing to follow up and reach out to help us achieve our dream wedding.

FAMILY VACATION/SURF TRIP

Reviewed By FellowTraveler210632

My family and i recently went on a vacation/surf trip and picked k-lodge. We picked this place because of Walter. He responded to every message and question that i asked. My wife already felt comfortable with him before we even flew down there. It didn't hurt that his english is as good as mine either. Very easy to communicate with. HIS place is even more beautiful then the pictures showed. It's a one stop shop. He provided transportation from and to the airport. Took us everywhere we wanted to go and provided 5 star meals. His main goal was making sure me and my family had the best vacation ever. The point break directly behind his place is the best around. Anyone who would ever write a bad review about Walter or his place would just be an unhappy person no matter where they go. We will 100% be coming back to stay with Walter again. Very safe place. We are a family of four from florida with kids. This was the best vacation/surf trip we ever had and Walter made that happen. If you see a grey chewed up soccer ball that his dog jimbo is chewing on that was ours. lol. Thanks, Walter. Can't wait to come back! Seth and family

Me and my girlfriend are on our first non resort trip together. We chose El Salvador and this was the first place we stayed in playa el Tunco. Sander his wife and staff are truly amazing people. The vibe here is so relaxing, and the lodge is a short walk to the beach. The food here is very good ,as well as there restaurant across the street . We met some awesome people who were staying here as well. The room and the lodge is well kept. There is no air or hot water but we didn't mind . We had an amazing sleep every night with just a fan. Thanks Sander for making our first stay an awesome experience! Lots to see and do in this area !

El Pinabete Finca & Cabanas

Amazing place, great experience away from the city noise! PET FRIENDLY!

Reviewed By Ricardo M

This hotel has its own unique experience to it, unlike any other mountain resort we had visited before. Getting there is a very steep road that will eventually turn into a dirt road, so an all wheel drive vehicle with good ground clearance is a plus, although many 2 wheel drive SUV's made it to the hotel. NOTE: be VERY careful when driving back down as the road back is 5 miles of a steep incline that must be driven slowly in high gears to avoid overheating the brakes. For first time visitors it is advised that you call the hotel first, they will give you the name of the cellphone carriers that still have a signal up there. Keep their phone number handy in case you make a wrong turn and need directions, like we did. Personally, I would recommend printing out the google map instructions, as some GPS applications may lose connectivity or lag and take you elsewhere. Once we arrived the place, we were greeted by Pablo, who was an extraordinary host. He is in charge of a short walk around the woods, lighting up a bonfire at night for all the guests to get together and know each other and for taking you to a nearby river. The activities were all on schedule and offer nice views, just beware that the terrain is rugged, steep and might get slippery with loose soil. The cabin is adequate for a couple with two children. Inside you will find a queen size bed and 2 bunk beds for children, although an adult can sleep comfortably on the bottom bed. The weather gets chilly at night, so make sure you bring sweaters and some additional blankets if you are not used to the cold. The days are bright and windy in case you want to use sunblock it is also advisable. The food is delicious and some packages include dinner of the day you arrive plus a snack (coffee with dessert), breakfast and lunch of the next day. The eggs with bacon is a great choice for breakfast! The BEST part of everything is that this hotel is pet friendly, so you can bring your pet for an additional fee. They also have their own pet, Renzo, who is very friendly, but will keep his distance if not invited. My 4 pups had a great time exploring around and visiting the river. Just make sure you bring them warm clothing and blankets for the night and to keep them on a leash all the time as they may be tempted to wander off. What we normally do is bring along long ropes to tie their leashes to, so they can walk around more freely. The additional length on the leashes came in very handy when going up and down the steep terrain allowing me for a better footing on the loose soil. This was a great overall experience, except for the fact that we made a wrong turn on our way out and had to take an alternate road for about 5 miles to get back to the highway. Highly recommended hotel!
