The New Charles Dickens

Great budget hotel.

Reviewed By doodah1977

Booked through Booking.com. On arrival, check in was easy, just had to sign the register and they ran through the keys with me. The bar shuts at 8 so you have to let yourself in round the back, shame the bar shuts so early in the week as they have a great selection of beers. The room was nice and clean with tea and coffee making facilities. Bed was comfy. I came to Wigan for the football and it’s about half hour walk from the stadium and about ten minutes from the train station so not badly positioned at all, down a quiet road. I would definitely recommend this place.

Pretty Good

Standard Premier Inn room, it’s in a good location near the motorway No lift, I had big bags which was annoying Restaurant next door was average especially the the breakfast, coffee was from one of those pump pots, I wanted a proper coffee, it all seemed a bit cheap. I ate in there the night before and the food was below average. The big positive was the guy who checked me in, Dave was his name, very help and professional, businesses need staff like Dave…..

I really loved this night i stayed at the Premier Inn in Wigan. It was comfortable, quiet and relaxing. I slept like a log. The breakfast was delicious as well. My only concern was the wifi was not working. When asked about it was told it had not been running all day. It was fixed after 10:30pm.

Lovely room

Reviewed By Sarah N

Had an over night stay in one of the junior executive suites. Very nice room breakfast was great and the restaurant staff are lovely. The hotel reception staff not helpful and no bar staff on hand for serving drinks. Infact didn't really see any staff. Was disappointed that our room was booked for 2 adults and we were only provided with a single 500ml bottle of water and 4 milk pods for tea and coffee. I did ask for more at reception at 5pm they said they would bring some to our room it still hadn't by 9.20 and had to ring down to remind them I had requested it.

Holiday Inn Express Wigan, an IHG Hotel

Nice hotel, shame about IHG Group

Reviewed By Stephen L

We had two separate nights in the hotel in August, due to the proximity to the DW stadium. We were so happy we made 9 more bookings. Like football, this review has two district halves. The positive first half was the service, facilities, value and staff. We enjoyed both stays, the rooms being ergonomically planned to perfection. Lots of power, USB ports, great shower, bright and ventilated. The hotel had sanitisers in all the right places, staff were seen to clean and there was a warm atmosphere. The second half is Intercontinental Hotels Group ruining it. The hotel has taken on a sudden Government contract so all reservations to 1/1/2022 suddenly cancelled. I can understand the reasons and that’s not an issue. You would expect a large reputable group like IHG to contact the people who made the bookings and offer them alternative accommodation, probably at the same rate, or compensation for being messed about? You would be wrong. An apologetic call from the hotel and that is it. Speaking with IHG their policy is for the hotel to sort out alternate bookings, but as this hotel is “badged” privately owned it cannot do it. Good money for them short term and I wish those staying well, but IHG has put short term gain over long term customers. Shambolic and disgustingly poor. The travel industry needs custom we are told repeatedly. IHG seems not to care. Bad scores on the review for the group, not for the staff at the hotel, who try very hard.

Went to the bar and was being served, the lad poured my gin, placed glass under peroni pump ready and went to go get my mixer…. He suddenly walked off and never came back. Was served about 10 minutes later by a girl who was apologetic… turns out mid way through my order his shift ended so he just left…. Awful if you ask me. Not a reflection on the rest of the business as otherwise it’s 5*! Rest of the team great and place was clean and tidy, food looked and smelled great.
