Great Location
Reviewed By fleetwoodmac1We stayed two nights in unit 1. This is an older, dated motel but clean and comfortable. Some units may get traffic noise but we were away from the road. Roomy units, comfortable bed, park at the door, wide screen tv, basic kitchen. Very handy to the basin and the new Hunterwasser museum. Also very convenient to Bank Street and its cafes and restaurants. We would strongly recommend Essence cafe and Whang Thai in Bank Street. Unlike many motels all units here HAVE air conditioning absolutely essential this time of year. This motel is value for many but dont expect five stars.

Reviewed By 828claires828This motel had every thing we needed for a weeks stay. Quiet, clean and comfortable. Serviced daily. Hosts were friendly, and accommodating. full range of equipment for cooking is needed. Just a 20 minute walk to town centre.

Superb accomodation

Resident Manager Stephanie, her husband David and on this occasion, their son Josh who recently joined the business, always give us a warm welcome. Lovely family who ensure your stay is perfect. We have stayed in a Studio Spa room and also Balcony Spa room, both are beautifully presented. Rooms are spotlessly clean, well equipped, quiet and very comfortable with nice finishing touches to add to French decor. The balcony Spa room was spacious and a home away from home, ideal for our 4 night stay. Bed was very comfortable, crisp white cotton sheets and beautiful bead spread with cushions. Corner spa bath and excellent shower overhead. Towels top quality. Balcony had table and chairs plus bench seating, cushions, great place to relax at end of the day. Location of motel is perfect for us. If required, reasonably priced, mini bar set up in fridge. We discovered nearby Bontanica Gardens, beautiful native trees giving shade to concrete walking paths though out the gardens, fern house, cactus house, rose gardens etc, perfect for a morning walk. Highly recommend Lodge Bordeaux, we would not stay anywhere else.

Warm, tidy and welcoming

We had to book via telephone and the staff member we talked to was very accommodating to fit in our family to one of their last available rooms. Every staff member we interacted with was incredibly friendly and professional. The room was warm, tidy and clean. Beds very comfortable. We called reception for the additional rollaway bed and it was there in an instant. Twice we ordered room service dinners and the service was fast with meals absolutely delicious. Heat pump in the room was incredible. After using it briefly to warm up the room, we didn't need to use it again overnight. Shower pressure very strong with lovely hot water. We would definitely stay again!

Excellent service
Reviewed By LlamamumRooms have been newly-renovated (very nicely) and the whole complex is still being refurbished, but there was no disruption during my stay, merely a shortage o rooms. Despite this, the staff went out of their way to help with a complicated booking extension and were able to sort things out. In addition, other staff including housekeeping were very helpful and pleasant whether it was dealing with an actual request or merely in passing. All amenities and facilities good, location very handy, plenty of parking. Will definitely stay again.

Disappointing stay
Reviewed By 266tanialWe booked this place because it had a pool. It was too dirty looking to even contemplate a swim. Yes the rooms are small. You get what you pay for. The fan was broken. Not replaced . And did anyone tell a large group of people staying, that they weren't the only ones at the hotel. Outside in a huge group making noise all hours of the night. Had to have window open as no fan to cool the stifling air. Not a pleasant stay. Would not recommend for future stay. Sorry to say my short stay vacay was a disappointment.

Unpleasant at best

I payed $70 for this room so I wasn't expecting anything too grand, however my expectations were still too high. To put it bluntly, I have had far better experiences and sleeps in $20 hostels. I had to sleep with headphones in and it was still broken countless times due to others flushing toilets, water cylinders filling up, hearing entire clear as day conversations, and the incredibly loud karaoke coming through the floor from the pub downstairs was just the icining on the cake. The cleanliness was subpar, room wasn't as depicted in photos, and the general hotel and room was beyond run down and quite grubby. Wouldn't recommend to anyone unfortunately. One positive thing though, is that the woman I dealt with in the bar to get my key and the woman I checked out with were both pleasant.

OMG. First impressions count.
Reviewed By RandomovernightersI entered the reception area to find the oldest framed photograph (I think - but still not sure) with a moldy stain on it. Messy. But not as much as the area next to the reception. A stockpile of whiteware...piled high. An old spa pool too. I think there was a trampoline well past its used by date. The room was very dated. We rewashed every utensil etc we used. The roof was covered with a tarpaulin as were many more near our room. Anither store area of junk piled high too near the laundry. We did meet a couple of cleaners on our way out. They were very pleasant. It appears to be used for emergency housing mixed with nightly booked rooms. Would not stay again. Be weary.

Conference room facilities available. 3 minutes walk to restaurant, corner dairy/shop, Chinese takeaway & fish & chips & ATM machine. 10 minutes by car to virtually anywhere in Whangarei. 45 minutes to Bay of Islands.
