Photos didn’t do Villa Piedimonte justice. We stayed in the Junior Suite and the room was beautiful and spacious, with a huge bathroom - massive bath and walk in shower. Our balcony had a stunning Amalfi sea view as did the pool area. Hotel staff were very friendly and so helpful and the secure car park is free - which is a bonus! The hotel is super close to Ravello Town centre, we took the free shuttle offered by the hotel there and walked back - just 10 minutes. We loved our stay in the Ravello Hills, a delightful escape.

The Real Spirit of Ravello

Reviewed By ericbN5507KD

In one of the most luxurious and beautiful locations in Italy, this hotel has not only stunning views, a charming, flower-filled terrace and a spectacular restaurant looking out at the Tyrrhenian Sea, but also the comfortable, unpretentious atmosphere of the convent it once was, and a family-run hotel, which is what it is today. The rooms are spacious and filled with the fanciful tiles that are signature of this region; the restaurant's meals are delicious; and the hospitality of the brothers who run it all is at a five-star level. More importantly, this place captures the essence of Ravello-- a simple, quiet town of beauty and tranquility amidst the sometimes overly opulent frenzy of the Amalfi Coast.

Lovely but dated

Reviewed By KathrynN1987

I stayed here on my own on a solo vacation. The staff were lovely and the hotel was clean, but it is quite dated in terms of decor. It has a beautiful swimming area and the breakfast is very nice (though unfortunately the view from the breakfast/dinner area on the terrace is obstructed by a window sill when you sit down that is right at eye level for most people). The room was fine, though my mattress was a bit lumpy and it was difficult to keep the room cool at times. The shower was also so small I could barely turn around in it and I’m not a big person (5’4 and 130lbs) and it was quite slippery to stand in and always leaked water all over the floor. Though the hotel may technically be in Ravello, is not in Ravello proper as the name would suggest. Ravello center is actually quite hard to get to from the hotel - it is either a gruelling 30 min uphill walk (1500 steps) to the town or a 40 euro taxi. The buss does not go from the area directly to Ravello you would have to transfer in Amalfi and back track. Your choices for dinner are then limited to the hotel restaurant (which is good but pricy and would lack of variety after sometime) or a 15 minute walk to Minori along the highway or a 30-40 min walk to Amalfi the other direction. Taxis here are extremely over priced (a taxi to the hotel from Amalfi will cost 30 euros even though it’s a 10 min drive). The hotel does have shuttles but they are limited in space and the times available and don’t run in the evening. If you stay here you are better off having your own car to get around.

A Slice of Heaven

Reviewed By traveler-cw1

Our visit to the Caruso Belmond was as close to perfect as we have ever experienced in a hotel stay. Situated high in the hills of Ravello overlooking lush scenery tumbling to the sea below, we felt like we were among the ancient gods in heaven. The extensive gardens and historic buildings are in pristine condition. The staff members are friendly, welcoming, expertly trained and take great pride in their work. The quality of the meals is outstanding in all of the venues. The service is elegant without becoming uncomfortably formal. Thanks to our Virtuoso travel adviser, we were upgraded to the immaculate and sophisticated Suite 31, which has a fireplace and private garden. The pool has the most beautiful view imaginable, and we cancelled other planned activities to spend extra hours enjoying the setting. We hope to be lucky enough to return soon.

Villa Maria Hotel

Situated in the historic centre between the Clarisse nunnery and S. Francis Convent, in a restful aristocratic area so much as to be chosen, the only hotel in the area, by the French guide-book "Relais du Silence" as an oasis of peace and by the Italian "Charme e Relax" as Ravello's pearl. Villa Maria assures his guests in addition to maximum tranquillity also the most services including the parking of nearby Hotel Giordano (of the same property) where it is possible to park for free the car and take advantage of free luggage handling and of the swimming pool (parking and swimming pool situated at the sister HOtel Giordano, approx. 5 Minutes walking distance). Rich and interesting is the history of this villa which was roman noble Marquis de Cinque family's manor, an history which blends with Ravello's and the Amalfi Coast's. The structure, while preserving the elegant forms of a lordly mansion, in the years has undergone noteworthy redecorations which have fashioned its actual splendour.

Disappointing

Reviewed By Denmanbob

Villa Maria has a lot of potential and you cannot deny the views on offer but in comparison to other hotels in Ravello and along the Amalfi coast at similar prices this hotel disappoints. The breakfast was passable but staff disinterested. Dinner was the worst we had in Ravello at the highest cost (also beware if you are offered limoncello for the table you will be charged for it unlike almost every other restaurant in Italy). Sleep is difficult if you are situated under the breakfast room as there is furniture movement of a night time and then heavy footsteps in the morning. The drains/plumbing also seem to run through the ceiling causing additional noise. One couldn’t help but feel a little cheated by this hotel throughout the stay…

Wondeful Views and Location in Ravello

Reviewed By John B

We spent two nights here and loved the location in Ravello and the wonderful views of the sea and coast line. We also took advantage of the Beach Club which was a lot of fun, especially since the staff are so great! Our only reservation with the hotel is that the room was very small for the price point, the shower was in the tub which had about a foot high ledge to step down from, and there was no nespress in the room. However, it is definitely worth the stay for the views, common spaces, and a wonderful breakfast overlooking the sea.

The Hotel still preserves reminiscences of the original medieval structure of the 12th Century, Palazzo Confalone.
