Old rooms with stains on the sheets and towels. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Reviewed By patrickr199

Our group (2 rooms) stayed here for one night (if it were more than that we would have left). We paid extra for the Premium rooms that were supposedly updated after the last hurricane damaged the hotel. The rooms looked like they were last updated in the 80's. Our 3 of the 6 towels in our room had poo stains on them. We didn't mention it to the other room because we knew they were already unhappy about the hotel we picked for the group. Their room's bedsheets had bodily stains on the sheets. Check out is at 10am and check in is at 4pm. We asked if we could have one of the two rooms until 1:15pm because we had an infant (obviously isn't vaxed and can't wear a mask) to sit i the airport for hours. They said no but then a supervisor eventually gave us until 12:15pm. The hotel restaurant seemed to be out of everything when we went there for dinner so we ended up just having dessert, which they were also out of most thing). We went there for breakfast and it took 1 hour 45 minutes before our food came out. I've been to many islands and understand island time but that is absurd. Also, all our food didn't come out at once so we were all eating at different times. I never really write reviews but I'm hoping I can save someone from staying here by writing this review.

I visited for my Birthday in May and I was very impressed with everything!! The check- in process, the staff, my suite was a 1.bedroom on the Oceans side and it was beautiful. The property was maintained very well and I would see the staff working hard to do so daily!! I must say my stay was extra special because of the manager Tina!!! She was spectacular and so resourceful. Tina is genuinely friendly and caring and always made sure my party and I were always happy. I recommend this hotel for sure. I will be back this year!!! Phenomenal team treated us like family; excellent food; nice rooms with full ocean view; suboptimal beach

Reviewed By crosvs

This was our first trip in 2+ years; our first with our new baby; and my wife's birthday celebration, too. Unfortunately, due to a room mixup at La Playa Orient Bay (review forthcoming pending a dispute), we had to change hotels after our first night, and Naomi and the rest of the front desk staff literally saved our vacation by getting us into a spectacular full ocean view room on Day 2 of our vacation. So first things first, a *HUGE* shout out to Anissa, Davia, Latoya, John, Kelly, and Mathilda! You guys totally treated us like family; and we miss you all. Thank you for your kindness, your sincerity, your helpfulness. Our little one says hi! :) As for the hotel itself: - Vibe: 5/5. Very modern/chill Southern California vibe but without a crazy party ambience; the perfect balance of "cool" yet "relaxing" - Food: 5/5: By far the best food around SXM - Service: 5/5. Everyone from the front desk, restaurants, beach bar, and even the room cleaning team, is second to none (though room service is not provided). - Comfort/quiet: 5/5. Exceptionally quiet and comfortable rooms. The upgraded rooms are awesomely modern, but the non-upgraded rooms actually offer a few benefits like a ceiling-mounted fan so you can turn off the AC at night and leave the window open to hear the waves outside. (We experienced both rooms due to limited availability necessitating a room change.) - Beach: 3/5. It's calm and pretty, so good for families with babies in the sense that it's not rough waters; unfortunately however, the sand is full of debris including broken glass that made for an unpleasant feel. Also, frequent cruise ship passengers spike the beach crowd from several 10s of people to several 100s (or more). Fortunately, Divi Beach is just a 5-10 minute tax ride away and is one of the finest beaches on the island with no crowds, great casual food, and beach chairs/umbrellas and cabanas available ($15-$30). A huge thank you again to the entire team at Holland House. You guys rock. We'll miss you! *hugs*

Wonderful time on the beach!

The rooms were spacious with 2 full baths and full kitchen. Perfect location on the beach with stores nearby. Restaurants were easily accessible and the staff was friendly and helpful with answering questions. They arranged our covid testing the day before we left as well as our taxis for exploring the city or going to dinner. There was a washer and dryer which made it convenient to leave with clean clothes. Although my friend became ill on the trip, we still had a good time. Spending time on the beach, including a massage, and sitting on the balcony (so relaxing I fell asleep) was wonderful! Would definitely stay here again!

Great location and great service

We initially booked for one night prior to joining a cruise out of Philipsburg but enjoyed it so much that we booked in again for the two additional nights on the island post the cruise. The location couldn't be better for enjoying the lovely beach or for exploring Philipsburg. The rooms that we had (we were travelling as two couples) were perfect for what we required and were priced accordingly. The team on the front desk were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for us. When trying to find the best way to get our Covid tests on a Sunday (all closed until Monday), prior to flying via Miami to the UK, they contacted a local clinic who came into the hotel to undertake the testing. That's what I call service. An unexpected surprise that made the extra days in St Maarten, a holiday in their own right.

This hotel built in 1962 breathes old Caribbean style. It is right on the beach with loungebeds and parasols. We had a nice breakfast next door in a local restaurant on the Boardwalk where you find a variety of restaurants. Beautiful sunset, the view over Great Bay is breathtaking. The rooms are clean and have everything to accomodate a pleasant stay. The window shutters keep out the sun and noise. The bed is small, but very comfortable! The entrance is in the main shopping street and historical center of Philipsburg. Very fast Wi-Fi also in front of the Boardwalk. Friendly service and clean and safe in and outside of the hotel.

A bad experience

Reviewed By marjude

We booked 2 nights in advance of boarding a cruise ship. Because of stringent Covid reporting requirements at the airport we missed our flight out of Chicago and had to take a later one to Miami where we spent the night. Having paid in advance for two nights we showed up on the second night and we’re told the had no rooms. We are both over 80 and they wanted to take us and luggage back to the main road where we could get a taxi. The desk clerk candidly admitted that they sold our room to others. They seem to feel double booking is their right. They finally found us a room on the top floor with no water or electricity or telephone. Then the moved us to a lower floor where the were still cleaning at 10:00 p.m. There was someone’s food in the fridge. I asked to see the manager but was told she wasn’t in. The reception clerk said nothing in response to my questions about double booking our room when we missed the first night. The bellmen probably saved our lives by moving our luggage and helping us get food through our ordeal. Avoid this place!
