Methven Glitch

Reviewed By KandSWeir

The whole story started when we travelled from Dunedin to Methven towing our caravan to stay in the holiday Park associated with Abisko. Once there we found if we hadn't booked a place at the hot pools there was no way we would get in. Guess what. We still haven't been and likely will never make the effort again. Then things went slightly pear shaped and that was reflected when we sat down at the end of the four night stay. First. It is a great wee caravan park. Its intimate and we met and socialised with some wonderful people but that is where it gets its most points. During our time there I do not believe toilets or bathrooms were cleaned nor toilet rolls replenished. The large app 80Litre rubbish bin in the kitchen was full to overflowing the entire duration. A kitchen hob had a do not use sign leaving only one hob for the camp. Further we were advised the SPA Pool had all its chemicals up to date. We tested the dirty looking water assuming there may have been a water supply issue but when you start coming up in a rash the next day, well that says it all, This could have been a wonderful stay marred by these issues. Perhaps the manageress was run off her feet for such a busy weekend but I am sure there were people living in Methven that could have been employed to help. The manageress was most obliging but I believe the owners need to look at their business management plan and look after the people using your facilities. Enjoyed a night in the Dubliner Bar just down the road.!!!!!!!!!

Perfect late autumn getaway

Reviewed By Joannepmitchell

From booking right through to the stay my experience with Brinkley Resort was exceptional. The two main reasons we were actually stopping in Methven, on a roadie from Auckland to Wanaka, were closed on the day we arrived. A recommended restaurant closed due to Covid, and Opuke Thermal Pools due to a malfunction (despite pre booking and pre paying ). The saving grace was the lovely apartment at Brinkleys. Late afternoon sun on the balcony looking out on snow capped peaks replaced the restaurant location followed by an evening in the very comfortable and warm accommodation with everything you needed, all in excellent condition . Will definitely return.

Did the little things well

Reviewed By Kerie5775

It’s the little things I notice and appreciate…thick quality toilet paper, nice hand wash, good shower strength, coffee and a plunger, a coffee mug, a recycle bin, and it’s very quiet. It’s not super flash but it’s clean, comfortable, and an easy stroll down to the blue pub for dinner. Great to get a king sized bed. Good value for money. We’d stay here again.

Okay for a night

Reviewed By aotearoanz

Stayed here for one night while visiting the Opuke Thermal Pools. Greeted at reception by very casual staff - three of them standing around talking while we stood and waited directly in front of them. The receptionist finally sorted our booking, informed us that the restaurant and bar are closed as they are renovating it. Our room was basic, but adequate - not sure if it had been renovated as still had the very old outdated Skope heater, and no heating at all in the bathroom, very limited in the way of cutlery and dishes - two mugs, two small glasses - no wine glasses - but it was clean and the bed was okay. The noise from other rooms was easy to hear even with the door shut. We only stayed one night and as it was not a really cold one, it was okay. Would hesitate to book here during the winter though as the room could be very cold.

Very Spacious Chalet At a Bargain Price

Reviewed By HikingFoolCincinnati

We stayed in chalet #2 for 3 days. No one else was staying there for the 1st 2 days so it was very quiet. The owner was friendly but not onsite a lot so call to make sure he is there when you plan to check in. The chalet was very big with 2 bedrooms, washer/dryer, full kitchen, living room and a nice dining table. Not sure why people are not reviewing this place. You can book it on Booking.

We had a great stay here. The staff were super attentive & helpful. The amenities were basic but really all we needed. The room was clean and spacious. The restaurant exactly what we needed. Would definitely recommend. Only down side is that it is noisy at night with the music from the pub next door.

Great service and food ?

Reviewed By DarrenLeslie

For what-ever reason, my entree and main (steak) arrived together. So I sent the main back to the kitchen as it would've just got cold while I ate my entree. To the full credit of the chef, when they brought my main out once I was ready for it, the whole meal had been completely re-cooked from fresh rather than tried to be kept warm. So 100% for service due a mistake on their part. ?

Fabulous stay with excellent value for money

Reviewed By Richard W

We stayed one night at Ski Time on the 25th of March. Check in was friendly and efficient. Our room was a 'basic standard room' which was very clean, warm and comfortable. The entire lodge gives a rustic, ski lodge feel, but it's modern and very comfortable. To be honest, I was a little worried before we arrived that it wouldn't be nice because it seemed a bit too cheap, but it really was lovely and I still can't believe the price ($113 on sale) including breakfast. Upon learning that we would be leaving early to go hot air ballooning and would miss the included breakfast, the lovely lady who checked us in arranged for a continental breakfast to be left in the guest lounge fridge. This was so kind and appreciated - and the breakfast was lovely. I would highly recommend anyone stay here. Also the meal at the restaurant in the evening was incredible!

Great food

Reviewed By vomo2i

We arrived cold and hungry last Friday. What a real gem this hotel turned out to be. The food was very inexpensive and some great 'comfort' food on offer. The hot pork roll and chips was so big I couldnt finish it. The other person ordered prawn dumplings and wedges both fabulous. The highlight was a roaring log fire beside the dining area. We would have stayed longer but time was against us. Its not far from Christchurch.
