A lovely family hotel in a romantic alpine setting
Reviewed By AlistairdThe location of this hotel is to die for! Kochel am See is stunningly beautiful and this hotel is perched on the edge of the lake - our bedroom just hung over the water. On a bitingly cold day (at least -10*c) we had a warm welcome at reception - the receptionist spoke no English and we had virtually no German but we got along fine! The bedroom was comfortable, if a little austere (traditional), and the bathroom was smallish but modern and all very clean. The room was warm and stayed that way through the night (not all hotels can say that). The hotel is in two parts with the accommodation and wellness centre separated by about 40m - important to know when the temperature is so low. We watched the sunset from the restaurant where we took tea and later had dinner. The restaurant is formal but friendly - you need to ensure that you get a window table. We had our best meal in Germany here - my wife had half a squash stuffed with mushrooms and cheese and I had three fishes (salmon, char and another fish we could not get google translate to recognise) on a bed of mushrooms and courgettes baked in parchment followed by a sharing plate of desserts. The portions were massive like everywhere in Bavaria but these dishes were beautifully executed. The hotel is just outside the village on the road between Kochelsee and Walchensee and in warmer weather would be a great location for walking around the lake and mountaineering.

Very nice lunch stop
Reviewed By musher43We stopped off in Kochel on our way back to Munich airport for lunch and were very glad to find this hotel. The lady in charge was lovely and extremely helpful. The menu was a mixture of local Bavarian dishes, and a selection of lovely sounding Italian fare. We also noticed several other traces of Italian heritage on the wine list, and a selection of grappa. My wife wanted to stay on, not just for lunch. The food was superb, and finished with wonderful ice cream for the kids and glühwein tiramisu for the adults. We will definitely stop off here again.

A very quaint hotel
Reviewed By Robert SWe spent one night here on our way to the Munich Airport. It was a very quiet hotel in a quaint town. The rooms provided all that we needed. The breakfast was very good. The hotel staff is very friendly and quite helpful. We were there for the weekly dinner buffet they have. A lot of locals come also. This one was typical Bavarian fare and very good. The portions were large and seconds were encouraged! It was very reasonably priced. We were very happy that we picked this hotel. The wifi was the best we had during our whole trip.

Berg Blick is the modern and familiar hostel in Kochel am See - and for all those who are looking for mountain views, bed and snack under one roof for their next adventure or break. Whether for two or twenty, on your own or organised by us: there are a total of 40 beds available for individual travellers or groups, with or without children. The café of Berg Blick offers everything your hungry heart desires: vegan and healthy bowls, detox smoothies, a rich brunch with advance booking, sweet cakes and tarts as well as hot and cold drinks, with or without a "shot". Not on the menu, but included with every order for free is the cosy atmosphere and the unmistakable mountain view! Our café is open from April to the end of October on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 8 am to 6 pm. For groups we also offer dinners with local and homemade specialities. If you are looking for a morning snack outside our café opening hours, you will find our village bakery "Brotschmiede" with daily fresh pastries only 600 meters away.

I arrived at a well-kept and charming hostel in a beautiful town right next to the spectacular lake Kochelsee. The hostel is run by a kind, hard-working and light-hearted and fun-loving young woman who gives all customers a benevolent treatment and beyond just a service. she is smiling and doing every little thing with patient and love. The hostel itself is clean tidy and nice, the staff was excellent and the cafe located in the hostel which she also manages is excellent and delicious, and the vibe there is so nice surrounded by nice people ans stuff. Needless to say, I decided to stay for a few more nights..Warmly recommend coming and staying in this magical place that I was so happy to get to and made my whole journey perfect! Thank you so much!

Quiet village hotel
Reviewed By Kaye NWe spent two nights at the Waltraud. Our first room was spacious and had front and side windows providing a nice cross breeze. Upon returning for our second night we found that all our things had been moved to a smaller room. The manager apologized that she had made a mistake in booking and had booked our room to someone else for the second night. I wondered why that party wasn't given the smaller room we were moved to. I was a little uneasy that all our things had been touched by staff but our things seemed to be in good order. The breakfast provided was wonderful - fresh fruits, vegetables, cereal, assorted bread, meat, cheese, juice, yogurt, granola bars, boiled eggs and more. Lovely!! In the US if paying customers had been inconvenienced by a room change some money would have been taken off the bill. Nothing was taken off our bill and we see the need to ask as we were happy with both rooms and the helpful and pleasant staff.

Reviewed By j_rgenh950Als ersten "professionellen" Ausflug in die Berge sind wir Flachwurzler in Kochel am See gelandet. Ursprünglich war das Experiment "Wir und Berge" für den Mai geplant, konnte dann aber nicht stattfinden. Sofort konnten wir den Urlaub verschieben, - dafür nochmals vielen Dank für das Entgegenkommen, das ist nicht immer üblich. Angekommen wurden wir herzlich Empfangen. Unser Zimmer / Appartment mit kleiner Kochzeile ist nagelneu! wie auch alle anderen Zimmer, die wir hier gesehen haben. Toll eingerichtet, Küchenausstattung vom Feinsten! (Siemens Induktionsfeld, Zwilling Töpfe und Pfannen, leise Spülmaschine ... alles da um mal was kleines zu kochen. Noch besser ist der Wellnessbereich eingerichtet. Die Fotos auf der Homepage sind kein Fake - es sieht dort wirklich so aus und ist sehr gemütlich. Die Sauna ist etwas klein, aber zur Zeit brauche ich dort auch keine Menschenmassen. Frühstück ebenfalls mit allem was man so braucht. Besonders toll der "Obazda", aber auch der Schinken, das Obst, der Käse, .... usw. - für alle, die nicht off-line sein können: es gibt überall schnelles Internet, Zusammenfassung: Gerne wieder :-)

Schöne Lage , der Service nicht perfekt
Reviewed By hhujshdidbWir haben das 1. Juli Wochenende im Gästehaus Villa Waldfrieden verbracht. Sehr gute Lage für den Beginn ausgiebiger Wanderungen. Beim Einchecken im Hotel, welches ca 1 km entfernt vom Gästehaus ist, hat die Prozedur über 30 min gedauert, da die Dame an der Rezeption“ heute den ersten Tag da ist“. Bei den nachfolgenden Gästen hat es aber ebenfalls so lange gedauert , auch an den darauffolgenden Tagen. Das Frühstück im Gästehaus war nicht komplett, vieles musste nachgefordert werden. Auch hier die Aussage“ ich bin allein und den ersten Tag hier“. Im Zimmer fehlten die Gläser…die können sie sich dort selbst in dem Früstückszimmer holen…es fehlten die Kaffeepads. Wir hatten 2 Hunde dabei, die natürlich extra kosten. Das Zimmer wurde nur einmal gereinigt, den Rest haben wir selbst gemacht. Unser Freund wurde die Zimmerkarte gesperrt nach einem Tag, aber de volle Betrag war bereits gezahlt. Wir mussten uns selbst kümmern und zur Rezeption fahren und dies korrigieren lassen. Insgesamt war es ein tolles Wochenende in der Pfalz, die Unterkunft sehr schön, aber einen richtig guten Service habe ich vermisst ( für den Preis!) und auch die ewigen Aussagen: ich bin heute alleine oder zum ersten Mal hier, interessieren mich als Gast nicht wirklich. ich finde, wenn man solche eine hochwertige Unterkunft anbietet , dann muss das Gesamtpaket für den Gast stimmen…..

Lovely hotel
Reviewed By GPS1989A really nice hotel, the room I had was spacious and clean with a large wardrobe and a really comfortable seat to lounge in. Breakfast buffet was very good with a lot of options. Very close to the train station with Munich just an hour away, and you get a free bus pass so you can explore the local area, a day at the nearby Walchensee is a must
