Our wonderful wedding at Marlfield House!

Reviewed By DV042022

We had an absolutely wonderful wedding at Marlfield House in April 2022. It was a day we and our guests will never forget, and so much of that was down to our amazing venue - Marlfield House. From the beautiful grounds and rooms, to the delicious food, warm atmosphere and brilliant staff, everything was perfect. Dawn was such a professional to work with in the months running up to our wedding, and always listened to our quirky ideas and helped us bring them to life on the day while offering sound advice on how to do it right based on her extensive experience. By the time the day came around, everything was in order and Dawn kept things calmly ticking to schedule. A big thank you to Dawn for helping make our wedding such a special day. Also a big shout out to Ciaran who looked after everything brilliantly as the evening festivities kicked in. Throughout our day, we felt everyone at Marlfield was as invested as us in making our day a success - that's not something every couple can say about their wedding venue. Luckily we can though, and that's why we would strongly recommend anyone looking for a top-class wedding venue to visit Marlfield House before they go anywhere else. Thank you Dawn and everyone at Marlfield House: we'll never forget what a special memory-packed day you helped us create! David & Valerie

The grounds are secured with electric gates and there is ample free guest parking. Less than 1.5 km from the main street and all the hotels, pubs and restaurants. Minutes from some of Wexford's many sandy beaches. All rooms are fresh, bright with en suite bathrooms.

Fabulous 1 night, unintended stay.

We found ourselves in dire straits in Gorey this weekend after attending a wedding elsewhere, and were unable to travel. All the hotels and B&Bs in the Gorey area were booked, including the Railway Country House. We were staring down the increasingly real possibility of having to sleep in the car, but didn't Jo remember us and call us proactively when she had a last minute cancellation. We spent a lovely night in her very homey and comfortable property. I was stoked to learn that they allow pets (some considerations required). Breakfast was fab. I look forward to returning for an intentional stay at this lovely property, hopefully accompanied by the Furbaby! Thanks, Jo!

The Village Bar and Grill - Avoid

Reviewed By aaronsdining

After a visit to the nearby Ballymoney Beach our group of 5 decided to take a bite to eat at the Village Bar & Grill. We took our seats and waited to be given a menu and to be asked if we would like some drinks. This never happened. It wasn't overly busy, there was one female and 3 male members of waiting staff on. As we sat for 10 minutes or more my partner decided to take a menu from the bar. Again, we sat for another few minutes and to our surprise not one member of staff approached our table. Very unprofessional and undertrained staff for such a costly menu. €15 for a BLT or €24 for a Hake to name just a few. I can't comment on the food quality as we got fed up waiting for service and decided to leave. But for such a pricey menu you'd expect more from the service of staff. Highly recommend the nearby Ashdown Park Hotel (5 minute drive away) for their great Carvery Dinner.

I recently stayed at Perrymount Guest House and I had such a lovely stay. On arrival Noreen made tea in the sitting room with buns and biscuits. My room was lovely, spotlessly clean with my own en suite. I had a lovely relaxing comfortable stay and nothing was too much. Breakfast was delicious. I will stay again when in the area

Outstanding

I cannot say enough about this beautiful country house or it’s fantastic hosts, Philomena & John. We booked last minute but were met by John who brought us hot tea and warm scones in the scullery. The place is just so homely, it’s basically like staying at Grandma’s house (even though they weren’t old enough to be our grandparents!!) but still it was just like that, such a homely and welcoming place. The breakfast was just fabulous, with absolutely everything. We stayed two nights, the first night we had reservations at The Duck at nearby Marlfield House in Gorey and Philomena even drove us there instead of us getting a taxi. We stayed in room 6, a beautiful big room with a lovely balcony overlooking the back garden, the bed was so comfy and the bed linen was just so beautiful. Philomena was just the best host with such a fabulous sense of humour and she was full of knowledge of the area and beyond. We were staying there during a two week roadtrip of Southern Ireland and it was a pleasure to stay there, we were both sad to leave. Definitely the emerald in the crown of Southern Ireland. Thank you both for making our stay so fabulous xx

Wonderful weekend

Reviewed By Sunshine197718

We stayed there for a long weekend and were not disappointed. The pods are small but well furnished. The views are lovely with a great sense of privacy. The sound of birdsong is wonderful. We ordered the breakfast box which was tasty. One evening we had the grazing box from a local supplier in Gorey which was scrumptious. Ben, the host, was friendly and helpful. It’s a great spot for a break away from everything or for exploring the Wexford coast.

Excellent customer service

Reviewed By Pixipower

I felt this host was worth a mention - I was due to stay in the Dales with my family this week and had to cancel last minute due to a covid diagnosis. My booking was non-refundable on booking.com but Bernadette went out of her way to follow up, call me back and change the dates of the booking so I could cancel and get a full refund. She was very kind about it all and I will definitely be booking again when I can. In these difficult times it was lovely to experience such friendly and efficient service.

Honest Review

Reviewed By 220edelc

My fiance,2 year old and myself booked to stay in amber springs for two nights. Being honest I was apprehensive on how our stay would go as there are alot of reviews on here stating how inadequate the hotel is especially in regards to its bedrooms, the upkeep of the hotel and so forth. Our first impressions were out of this world. Our little daughter was obsessed with the soft play area which is fantastic for a hotel to have. We booked a superior executive room which was lovely. It had a jacuzzi bath, which we did find needed cleaning as when it was turned on there was a black scum that filled the bath and looked extremely disgusting to be honest. There was no air-conditioning in the room which was another down fall as the room got quite hot at night. The tea making facilities had only teabags and no coffee. Some of the hotel waiting staff were very attentive. There was one evening we got dinner and had to keep asking for our drinks or desserts as they were forgotten about. I had to send back my food on one occasion as the meat was freezing!we found there was a big difference on food quality with the different chefs.I did find the managers in the bar restaurant not as friendly. On one occasion the lady manager walked us to our table just dropped the menus on the table and kept walking which I found quite rude. We had booked a meal in the FHB and when we arrived were told we couldn't be taken until a hour later as they had taken a large table who were 45mintues late and thay delayed everyone else which we couldnt do as ir was too late for our little toddler. With all of this being said it is a fantastic hotel for children. It has a cinema, kids club, go cart track, pet farm, mini golf, soft play area, pool etc. The hotel is a child focused hotel and pump their money into child activities hence why the downfall is on the bedroom side of things. We enjoyed our stay despite all of the little inconveniences as our daughter was so incredibly happy all of the time, we didnt even have to leave the hotel and we even booked an extra night stay which we have never done before. I felt the need to give a lengthy and honest review .

Disappointing room but otherwise ok

Reviewed By 999123567

Stayed for 2 nights recently. Very friendly staff, especially the staff at breakfast. Only ate breakfast in the hotel and it was excellent. Decor was also lovely in the diningroom. Was very disappointed with our double room.. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable and really need updating. The sheet was strained and the cold tap in the bathroom did not work. I really expected more from this hotel considering the price. However the hotel location is excellent, staff were very friendly and apart from the room everything else was good.

2 Night short break

Reviewed By Sulli40

Clonganny House s a idyllic retreat for adults only who are looking for a luxury short stay in the south east of Ireland. We scouted the place out with a woderful stay last year before booking this break with friends this year. The Rooms are all totally resplendent we have stayed so far in two which in my opinion are the best called "Chambord and Cheverney " but all rooms are super you can't go wrong. Tip if traveling in summer for the best nights sleep do wear the eye masks provided as the early morning sun is very bright through the uncover skylights. The Food in Clonganny House is cooked by Philippe and it is a splendid repast his style and balance across the meal is in my view magical. The wine selection is a good mix of affordable and more expensive French wines. Our welcome was not quite what I expected. We did arrive at 3pm not knowing that check in time was 4pm . We had not read the Terms and Conditions. Our host Brona in greeting us made it very clear that while we were welcome 4pm was the official checkin time. Starting our break with friends this caused a little tension and our friends having to make a apology for arriving early was not a great start. Luckily it did not spoil our stay but does mean it will be our last.
