Reviewed By Z6710IKannamMyself, partner and 4 month old had a lovely stay at the hotel. The staff in all departments are friendly and welcoming and we really enjoyed our meal at the bar and breakfast. Would definitely recommend this hotel for a break away.

Reviewed By joeq540Called in to here recently with my wife to avail of the carvery lunch. Of course we arrived just as they were clearing away and we thought we'd missed it. Teresa, came over to us and said if we wanted lunch it would not be a problem. We tried apologising for being late and it was made very clear that none were needed. We were seated, made very welcome and not a bother, our order was taken and delivered to our table, piping hot and accompanied by plenty of smiles. At no point did we feel anything other than they really were delighted to have us there. Teresa and other staff constantly checked did we need anything more and they were quite happy to chat with us whenever they were near. All the staff and the service were excellent, Teresa is a gem, and all were brilliant advertisements on how to treat customers. If you're nearby try here, you will not be disappointed.

Not a 4 star hotel by any stretch
Reviewed By leannekerriganHad the misfortune to book a 2 night stay here as I was on business ...while the bed was comfortable tge room was stifling hot, the TV is like something from the 70s with very limited channel choice, bathroom shower pressure is poor and don't even think of asking housekeeping to service your room as they just decide not too even though you put make up my room on your door! Why have hotels in ireland decided they don't need to service rooms anymore??? The hops bar was dire serviceon Tuesday night with team members o duty who were more interested in speaking to their friends however on Wednesday the team working were fab so credit to them! My advice is book somewhere else

Reviewed By Fred BAfter touring all day we stayed the night at Scholar's Townhouse -- a beautifully restored 1867 building - each room unique. And the hotel's restaurant served a meal we will always remember -- our family of five each order a separate entre and no one was disappointed. Hospitality and warmth from the staff made the stay even more memorable.

Lovely hotel with great staff
Reviewed By dianemD4607NWWe booked a triple room for an overnight stay to celebrate my eldests 13th birthday. We emailed the hotel to explain that one of our party is autistic and easily overwhelmed in busy/noisy environments. The reservations team were so helpful, they allocated us a room in a quiet area of the hotel and forwarded our concerns/requests to the dining team. We had booked dinner for 6pm in the Brasserie Restaurant and they kindly showed us to a table in the beautifully decorated bar area. When seated another member of staff came over to ensure we were happy with our seats and offered that we could move to a table in the rear of the restaurant if we felt the need at any time during our meal. The food was fantastic! I had supreme of chicken with chorizo and butternut squash, it was the best meal I've had in ages. Chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce, green beans and fondant potato accompanying it were delicious. My sister had steak which was also top quality. Our 13 year old got chicken goujons and chips from the children's menu but they served a large portion and everyone was fully satisfied. The room was very spacious with a double bed and two single beds. The decor was modern and beds/bedding very comfortable. Only complaint was that air con wasn't available but it is Ireland after all. WiFi in the room was great, no complaints from a teenager who spent all night on their laptop. Breakfast was plentiful and service was quick. Plenty of staff in the breakfast room and an abundance of choice including the ability to squeeze fresh oranges for juice. The hotel is situated on the southern outskirts of Dundalk town but there is a SuperValu and Costa coffee within the hotel grounds for all your needs. There is no swimming pool or sauna etc. but I did see a health club within a couple of minutes walk. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and am already looking for an excuse for a repeat visit.

The grounds of this hotel are fabulous everything was perfect, a special thanks to all the staff for making our day so special. From the moment we contacted the Ballymacscallon in February 2021 Karen was extremely helpful and approachable. I had many questions and Karen answered each one with lots of advise and guidance. There was also plenty of help via email and phone by the reception staff and Karen throughout the months leading up to accommodation bookings special thanks to Linda who I dealt with on a number of occasions. Thanks to the kitchen staff and head chef for the beautiful food we had many compliments. Thanks to Fiona for the diligent planning with the table plans, menu tastings, email correspondences, ceremony and dining rooms organising and logistics. Finally thanks to Olly for being with us the day and evening of the wedding the planning coordination was seamless. We looking forward to returning very soon. Many thanks Regards Edel & Ken

Disappointing Experience
Reviewed By EmerfolocheAttention!!! The swimming pool and Spa is closed. I spotted that on the website but unfortunately it was after I had booked the stay on booking.com. With two kids the reason we booked the hotel was for the pool so we were devo that it was closed. I had rang the hotel a few times enquiring about our stay at not once did anyone from reception tell me the pool was closed. We got there late on Saturday evening and the kids were starving so the plan was to eat at the hotel and get an early night. On arrival I enquired about booking in for food only to be told that the restaurant was closed indefinitely and they were only serving breakfast. Absolute nightmare, had to order in food which took and hour and arrived with half our order and cold. The next day we went out for the day (Funtasia water park and theme park are 7mins away). When I was leaving I asked to have our room cleaned. When we arrived back in the evening the food waste had been taken from the room and towels replaced bed made worse than my 7 year old makes his and no other type of tidy up was done. If I ask any mom the best thing about trips away is not having to do all the tidy up or to at least have your bed made. The next day we were up and out by 8:30am and as I left I asked house keeping if they could clean our room and I also said it to reception just in case. We got back to hotel at 6:30pm and the room had not been touched and when I rang reception they said house keeping was gone. We had no clean towels, toilet paper, water and our bins still full. On day two we needed an extra duvet and pillow for my sons bed and a duvet with no sheet/cover on it was sent up. He found a black hair on the duvet so the he wouldn’t let the blanket touch him without a sheet so I had to put a towel between him and the blanket to get him to feel more comfortable. When I asked the next day I was told by reception that they didn’t know where duvet covers were and gave us a bed sheet to put between him and the duvet. The breakfast is also dismal so don’t be expecting much. Really disappointed with the stay to be honest and just wanted to make sure others knew what to expect.

50th birthday celebration
Reviewed By anjahI5496GWI stayed in Ghan House together with my husband for 3 nights. I had reserved a private room for Saturday night to celebrate my 50th birthday together with 22 friends. Dinner and service were perfect. Accommodation ist great as well. And the location itself is fab. I can highly recommend Ghan House and already dream about celebrating my 60th birthday there :-) Thanks to everybody in Ghan House for making my time there very special and unforgettable.
