Perfect overnight location ?

We're a family of four with 2 boys, we had a wonderful 1 night stay the room was perfect for our needs and the food at the restaurant was incredible. Steak and Ale pie is a must have. All the staff are super friendly and the service is great. The place itself is an old 17th century building so has lots of charm and character. Play area outside aswell for the kids who made friends instantly. We would definitely stay here again.

Upscale rural hotel with treehouses!

Reviewed By Stephen W

This is an upscale expensive hotel set in the countryside just outside Ashbourne. A lot of investment has gone into the hotel grounds and treehouses "hives" and it is very comfortable. There is a nice terrace outside with loungers and deck chairs overlooking a lovely wild flower meadow. Our compact room was small with a poor view, only 1 chair, but a lovely shower, internet radio, and complimentary snacks. The restaurant is fully glass sided on all 4 sides, so very light with great rural views, but gets noisy because of the hard surfaces. Service was poor, waiting on staff were young and new and needed better training My chips were poor with the large Barnsley chop and I guess had been cooked some time ago and kept heated The hotel has 3 comfy lounges, the library snug was my favourite Super to walk i the grounds round the hives, you are transported there by buggy. The Tissington trail on an old railway line is very close by with bike hire and pleasant walks, even through a disused railway tunnel into Ashbourne. With a bit more training, sorting the food, this will be a tip top hotel Pity it doesnt have a swimming pool, but there is a spa we didnt use.

We visited for an evening meal as a group of four in April. The location is amazing. From the outside it looks like a traditional pub. I therefore expected traditional decor and home cooked food. I got what looked like a badly decorated living room. I spent the evening with the brightest light shining in my eyes. The food is all straight from the freezer to microwave. I know that not everywhere is Michelin star and amazing but I really can’t think of a good think to say about this place other than where it is.

Had a wonderful week long break at this great little find. Accommodation is comfortable and cosy, perfect for a couple. Welcome basket on arrival with homemade biscuits for the dog, jam, scones, clotted cream, milk & freshly laid eggs for us. The kitchen has everything you need & more…. Never seen so many utensils in a rental property. Bedroom has lovely matching bedding, curtains & blind. The bed was so comfortable we slept like babies! Very quiet & picturesque area with great walks from the accommodation. Five minute drive to Aldi supermarket & M&S food store. Lovely large garden with direct access from the bedroom which our dog loved. Handy dog shower on site which was great after a trip to the river. Can’t praise Emma enough, a lovely host, always on hand should you need anything. We will most definitely return.

Booking Cancelled, 5 weeks Notice!

Reviewed By SophieL86

I booked this property in March 2021 for 12 people, for a family wedding local to the property. I paid the deposit at the time and the full balance when it was requested, 6 weeks before we were due to stay. I was sent the check in information pack etc via the 3rd party company I booked through (Sykes Cottages). A week after I had paid the remainder of the cost in good faith, I had an email (not even the courtesy of a call), to advise me that unfortunately my booking was being cancelled 5 weeks before we were due to stay. The property is being refurbished and would not be available until June, amazing that this was not known the week before the balance was paid or during the past 11 month the booking was made. I now have to find accommodation for 12 people, in the same area which undoubtedly will be far more expensive. Disappointed in the total disregard for the chaos this has caused us trying to find another place to stay on such short notice. I am sure the property will be great for those who actually get to stay there. Book at your own risk!

Cosy, clean and excellent location

My friends and I had a lovely time staying at these homes. The rooms were lovely and everything was very clean. The homes are a 5 minute walk into the centre of Ashbourne, but there is also parking outside for cars. I would happily return to stay here if I visit Ashbourne again in the future.
