The Māori call Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau — a maiden desired by 100 lovers,
and a valuable territory fought over for centuries for its fertile land and
natural harbors on the Pacific Ocean (to the east) and Tasman Sea (to the
west). Today, it’s New Zealand’s largest city: A vibrant and diverse place
where nature and urban life go hand-in- hand, with 48 volcanic cones, more
than 50 islands, and 29,000 km of coastline and beaches just minutes away
from the arts and shopping of the central city.

The Attic is a fresh and vibrant, newly refurbished top floor backpackers situated in the heart of the city centre, on Wellesley Street, just steps from the iconic Auckland Skytower and the hustle and bustle of Queen Street. Sleeping a maximum of 100 guests, we are a smaller inner city hostel than most, offering guests a central location and budget accommodation with a difference. Ride our traditional, 'old school' service lift to the top floor, which opens straight out on to The Attic. Enjoy a tour of our place upon check in, no impersonal pointing to your room and off you go, we want you to feel at home with us. Some of our larger dorms feature dividers so that even our most budget options are still as comfortable as a smaller dorm, attention to detail is important here at The Attic. Incredibly friendly and helpful, we go the extra mile to make your stay with us that little bit more special. Our guests comfort is the most important thing for us and we pride ourselves on creating a chilled, helpful and caring hostel environment in Auckland city centre!
Really good location as only a few minutes walk to Skycity. Clean, central and good vibes. I stayed in a private room which was quite comfortable and had everything I needed. Big kitchen, bathroom had lots of showers. Would stay here again..

Verandahs Parkside Lodge comprises of 2 beautiful Victorian Villa's built in late 1800's and early 1900's, renovated to surpass their original grandeur. Superior location nestled between, City Centre, Ponsonby Road, K' Road and Western Park, Aucklands oldest park.
I have stayed at Verandahs for over 10 years, both with family and for business trips and conferences. Verandahs is incredibly well placed to enjoy Ponsonby or walk into Central Auckland. Rooms are simple and comfortable within two large wooden villa. Looking out over pohutukawa trees towards the harbour is always a high point. Campbell and his team always go the extra mile. Totally recommend. Hugh Forsyth

Avoid at all costs. They lost my booking so spent around 15 mins finding it. When checked in a directed to the lifts, 1 of the 2 was broken (and remained broken for my 3 night stay). Joining the other one, the lift shuddered to a stop on level 3 then returned to ground. I got out and came back later, each time in the lift it worked but shuddered about and you held your breath that it wouldn't break down. 19 storeys so, waiting for 1 lift it can often take a while too. When I did get to my room laternthat night after staff had finished for day, I fou d the shower had a bath mat hanging over railing to dry from last guest. When I went to bed, a pillow had a weird lump in it. Looked in pillow case and a towel was folded in there, last gues obviously found pillow uncomfortable and put that in there, but, also means pillowcase not changed between guests. No aircon exists in room. There is opening windows, but, unless it's a windy night they don't do much and room still be very hot at 2am etc. There's also a lot of homeless in the street, which meant loud singing all night sometimes. Located in one of the best locations in Auckland, Haka Lodge brings a new class to the upmarket style of backpackers. This historic building has been meticulously redeveloped/restored to create a new industrial loft style backpackers with the newest furnishings, custom made beds and brand new hotel style mattresses. Make sure you stay at the best!
We loved the place, also the culture and what kind of people it brings. The price range is attractive and hard to beat. We came in as a group of 4 and the needs are met. It might be a slight inconvenience carrying the load up but that's only a small heads up.

If you are looking for a cheap night in Auckland this place is so much better than its cost would indicate. Super friendly and helpful staff. The room was comfortable, more spacious than I expected, clean and the ceiling fan was a most welcome bonus. Highly recommend.

All the staff are excellent. I have stayed here before and normally enjoy it. There are families staying there at the moment who let their very young children run around screaming and yelling unsupervised. I was in Auckland for work so I needed to get a decent sleep.

We booked for two nights at the No.9 hotel and could not handle the first night. And end up canceling the second night and needed to book another hotel urgently. We barely got an hours sleep. The windows didn’t close properly and there was absolutely no noise reduction so all noise on the street could be heard and loud. Really loud noise from construction work right in front of the hotel kept us awake till midnight. Saw random dodgy people walking in and out the hotel throughout the night. And we heard fighting from rooms below us who had their windows wide open and fully yelling and swearing. One at around 11:00pm till 11:30pm and second one around 12:00 and few more times after midnight. I called the reception after the first fight but they said its from different building but I went out to check and it was from this hotel. And they obviously didn’t do anything since there was another fight from same room later. the room was okay but definitely not the same as pictures on website. After these fights we checked the reset reviews and all of the reviews were 1/5 and found so many reviews that had same horrible experience. The worst hotel we ever stayed. Or is this a emergency housing? I have all the videos of fighting but can’t post videos.
