We loved the place, also the culture and what kind of people it brings. The price range is attractive and hard to beat. We came in as a group of 4 and the needs are met. It might be a slight inconvenience carrying the load up but that's only a small heads up.

Attic Backpackers

The Attic is a fresh and vibrant, newly refurbished top floor backpackers situated in the heart of the city centre, on Wellesley Street, just steps from the iconic Auckland Skytower and the hustle and bustle of Queen Street. Sleeping a maximum of 100 guests, we are a smaller inner city hostel than most, offering guests a central location and budget accommodation with a difference. Ride our traditional, 'old school' service lift to the top floor, which opens straight out on to The Attic. Enjoy a tour of our place upon check in, no impersonal pointing to your room and off you go, we want you to feel at home with us. Some of our larger dorms feature dividers so that even our most budget options are still as comfortable as a smaller dorm, attention to detail is important here at The Attic. Incredibly friendly and helpful, we go the extra mile to make your stay with us that little bit more special. Our guests comfort is the most important thing for us and we pride ourselves on creating a chilled, helpful and caring hostel environment in Auckland city centre!

Great staff but will stay elsewhere next time

All the staff are excellent. I have stayed here before and normally enjoy it. There are families staying there at the moment who let their very young children run around screaming and yelling unsupervised. I was in Auckland for work so I needed to get a decent sleep.

WORST HOSTEL EVER DONT STAY HERE

Reviewed By megangardner03

PLEASE READ - WORST ACCOMMODATION EVER! I WISH I could give this place no stars. Their customer service is appauling! I am shocked with how we were treated and would rather stay anywhere else. My partner and I had booked to stay here for two nights. On the last day we checked out at 10am and asked if we could leave our bags behind the counter to come and collect later. The issue is, you cannot enter the building unless you have a key card, and as we were checked out we didn’t have one. But as this is standard there is always someone there to let you in. We returned when we were ready to leave and no one was there. We rung and rung the doorbell for 30 minutes… We tried to call their phone but… wait for it… they have NO working number. We proceeded to wait longer another half an hour and MISSED OUR FLIGHT. All our luggage, belongings and keys were in there. Once someone came down they said they were upstairs. We had to pay $200 to rebook our missed flights for the next day and asked if we could have a free night. The lady offered to pay but we said no. She gave us the key card and let us have a free night. We were approached later by another man who asked us to pay. we explained what happened and said we either stay here for free or will find somewhere else. We were HAPPY to go anywhere else if they didn’t want a free night. We were not staying there or forcing ourselves there. The man said he will see what he can do. The next day we checked out. The first girl (who’s fault it was to begin with) was there and said nothing. They later proceeded to CHARGE MY CARD!! we approached the manager and turns out the girl LIED!! and said we were just going to pay and that it wasn’t her fault. And the manager basically said we have to pay. she said she can check the security footage to see if our story is right, that we waited, and waited, and rung (We were on the phone with 105 as we were so desperate) and then confirm also the man talking to us. we gave her ALL the times. Yet we have heard nothing. it has been ages since our stay, no contact, no refund. AWFUL Not to mention unfriendly staff, awful quality rooms, awful place in general. Please spend your money somewhere else x

Close & Clean Budget Accommodation

Reviewed By Karen F

Location on Symonds St is great, particularly if visiting Auckland or AUT Universities. You do have to climb down 2 steep flights of stairs to reception, so I am glad I travelled light. Room was clean with basic amenities (towel, soap etc) provided. Reasonably quite. Kitchenette was miniscule, more suited for warming takeaways rather than cooking.

Avoid at all costs

Reviewed By KiwiRhys A

Avoid at all costs. They lost my booking so spent around 15 mins finding it. When checked in a directed to the lifts, 1 of the 2 was broken (and remained broken for my 3 night stay). Joining the other one, the lift shuddered to a stop on level 3 then returned to ground. I got out and came back later, each time in the lift it worked but shuddered about and you held your breath that it wouldn't break down. 19 storeys so, waiting for 1 lift it can often take a while too. When I did get to my room laternthat night after staff had finished for day, I fou d the shower had a bath mat hanging over railing to dry from last guest. When I went to bed, a pillow had a weird lump in it. Looked in pillow case and a towel was folded in there, last gues obviously found pillow uncomfortable and put that in there, but, also means pillowcase not changed between guests. No aircon exists in room. There is opening windows, but, unless it's a windy night they don't do much and room still be very hot at 2am etc. There's also a lot of homeless in the street, which meant loud singing all night sometimes. A budget stay

Reviewed By Batchy94

If your after a budget stay then this is an ideal hostel, relatively clean rooms/bathrooms quite central in the CBD about 10 minutes walk to the viaduct. Could hear a lot of noise outside later in the night which was a bit of a downside however for $20 per night it wasn’t a big deal would stay again but only for a couple of nights.
