There's plenty of adventure with Cathedral Cove and Te Whanganui A Hei Marine Reserve on our doorstep. With over 7 hectares of award-winning grounds there’s space for everyone to find a pathway to the beach. The Seaview Villas look directly over Hahei Beach with ever-changing views of the Mercury Bay Islands from sunrise to sunset. The nostalgic cabins are great value for family getaways, all less than a minute walk to Hahei Beach! We have Allpress barista-made coffee available onsite every day. From November to Easter weekend, the onsite outdoor bar, gourmet burgers and woodfired pizzas are open on weekends and additional hours in peak summer times - check on our social media pages for the opening hours. The hot tubs on the dunes are always a favourite, check fees and availability to book your spot when you get here. The Resort is walking distance to Cathedral Cove, so put the car keys away and avoid the parking hassle. The Hahei Village with a general store, craft brewery, and cafes is a short stroll. Hot Water Beach is 10 minutes drive. Come and relax on the beachfront with friends and family - the pristine Coromandel coast and marine reserve are the ultimate natural playground.

Fantastic- as always!

Fantastic - as always! Nice to see some positive changes since the last time we stayed, love the recipes in the kitchen & the new shower curtains. The hot tub is fantastic - what an awesome experience & you can't beat the view! It was quite different visiting in winter but loved how the big tree was lit up at night, and enjoyed the fact that it was a bit quieter than when we usually visit.

Exceptional customer service !

Stayed for Queen’s birthday weekend, mainly for the light festival, hot air balloon night glow, fire dancing, cars, non fire and bands. It was easy to book, the team were very accomodating of our needs and even changed us to a powered site. When our heater broke on our camper they managed to find one to lend us for free. The facilities were very clean and modern. The lounge had rustic tables and a fire burning, made it feel very cosy. The camp is very close to Hot Water beach, so easy walking if you are keen and want to try and dig for hot water - hard worker and harder than it sounds. Camp offers cute cabins, camping and powered sites amongst beautiful trees and native birds. Based on customer service slime we would be back.

Fantastic location easy walk to town. Very friendly team. Dog friendly :) Loved our stay. Only downside is pool only open from 10am so our son was sad he couldn't have a swim before departing. However pool was lovely and clean and good depth. We will be back again!

Not sure, but suspecting racism exists at Dickson Holiday Park

Reviewed By Rachel R

So my son called as he had heard Dickson Holiday Park was open for long term rental. He spoke to a gentleman on the phone who confirmed they are. He asked if my son is working? Yes, my son replied. He is doing a building apprenticeship for a well regarded local builder. How old is he, the man asked. 18 my son said. Was it just for him? Yes, single accommodation, my son replied. We do have something available he said, come over after two. We did. We arrived to the property, called the phone as the office was unattended. We let the woman on the other end of the phone know that we were the ones here to see the cabin available for long term rent. She came down, let us in and demanded to know if we were vaccinated. "No one is allowed on site who is not fully vaccinated". We produced our vax passes and she had to go off to get her phone to scan our passes. She then returned, scanned our passes with shaking hands. Once scanned in, she told us that there was no long term rentals available. We said the man said there was. She asked how old my son is. We said he is 18, so she started to tell us how they don't rent to anyone under 40! She also asked where he was from. We said Thames. She then told us that they don't rent to anyone local.....as "why can't you just live at home!" She was SO rude and obnoxious! I don't believe she was telling us the truth at all as the man would have said these things, over the phone first! My son is clearly NOT 40 or older....but he is a gorgeous shade of brown. Such a good, handsome lad. He has told me he gets treated differently because of his darker colour, but this time I saw it with my OWN EYES!! Heart breaking to see Racism alive and well in our small town. Shame on you Dickson Holiday Park. How dare you treat my son so poorly. How about get out of the dark ages (no pun intended) and pull your head out. Does not matter, he has found much better accommodation at Tapu now. I don't want him anywhere near toxic people like yourselves. Utterly disgusted in you!

AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

Reviewed By Taylor_Turei13

I do not suggest staying here at all. The receptionist is horrible and not helpful at all. We did not enjoy the stay. We called about 8:30-9 because we were checking in late and to see what time the gate was closing at 10:30pm. The receptionist laughed and gave attitude. She did not understand our situation (had to come up late because of baby sitting issues). Family was told to come early the next day. They arrived early but the gate was closed. The old lady at reception failed to tell us the night before that there was a back gate that allowed visitors in (without the locked gate at front entrance) for after or early hour visits. Reception and Wifi is crap out these ways. Paid for wifi but it did not work. Reception/Check in area are old ladies that have attitude and are so miserable. Had to explain to the lady why myself and my family had to arrive in 4 different cars. She gave us attitude and laughed at why we came in 4 different cars. We are all from different areas of Nz and we had to explain that to her; which I thought was unnecessary. Got given attitude the entire stay from this lady. Then 4 other of my family members people had to come and explain the situation to the one dumb old lady because she still did not understand. Won’t be coming back to Te Paru ever again and I’ll make sure family and friends don’t come here. The staff/ owners are horrible. Stains in the room as attached in the photos. Rips and period stain on chairs. Gross. There’s a policy that states the owners are allowed to walk in the cabinet/unit whenever. This is not right. This is against the law. The owners may interfere where they think reasonable but whenever they feel like is against the law. So you might want to correct your policy. I must add that it is not for young people as the gates are closed early. All stores and shops are closed by 9pm. If you’re an early bird/quiet by 8pm then this place would be good for you. But overall experience for me was so bad that I don’t look at staying in Thames ever again. Thanks Te Puru.

HEAPS of Activities for Kids

I’ve stayed here before but not for about 10 years. A local icon this place has made generations of memories. I have camped (tented) here before and their facilities for that are hugely adequate. Plenty of ablutions, a well prepped kitchen with an abundance of seating. As it was just me and four kids, I opted for a Family unit. It was perfect. One room had a queen bed, with side tables and reading lamps. The other 4 bunk beds and a set of drawers. There were extra pillows, extra towels, extra toilet paper - all the stuff you usually run short on. And linen provided - huge bonus. The heat pump in the living area made sure the temperature was always comfortable. These guys thought of everything. The kitchen comes equiped with all your basic conveniences (pots, pans, cutlery, plates etc) but then there’s a coffee plunger, juice jug, electric fry pan, and even little coffee, sugar and tea sachets. And a little milk in the fridge - haven’t seen that in ages. Oh yeah, and they had fly spray - very handy as there were a few flies around, not annoyingly so but the bin had no lid and might contribute to that. There was a six seater table in the kitchen which was great to sit around - I did catch my toes on the edges of the base numerous times, no biggie but worth watching out for. The bathroom had soap - heaps of towels and cupboards and there was even a drying rack in the cupboard (hanging out with a broom and vacuum cleaner) so we could keep the place in order. The park itself has so much do - tennis courts, pentanque, table tennis, corn holes, trampolines, mini golf, badminton, beach volley ball, a flying fox, a small bmx track and a longer bike track. My kids hired the 4 wheel pedal bikes - heaps of fun for exploring. Most of the stuff is at the office or sitting next to the activity. Super easy.A cool enchanted Forrest exciting for kids with a torch on a nighttime walk. The pool is warm, and on a warm day its warm! But as it cools at night or on a winter day its awesome. There’s no easy swimming beach near by so pool is your best bet for a dip. There are larger pools next door which are under renovation and have been for a couple years. Staff are amazing and my kids are begging to go back. Whether you want to take your tent, motor home, caravan, the dog or just the fam, you can do it all and its truely worth it.
