Wonderful Stay

Love, love, love the Shady Rest - exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the Green Room that has access to the veranda & views overlooking the front garden & distant hills. A spotlessly clean separate bathroom with a great shower & plenty of hot water. We enjoyed a very comfortable two night stay here & the gardens are a delight. Breakfast is very good & the location is so central that walking to shops & cafes is so easy. Hosts are amazing & go beyond to make sure you are looked after.

First time ever in Takaka and this place was pleasant. Dated and felt like I was staying at grandmas but thats not a bad thing. Spacious, clean, had everything we needed and Lex was very easy to deal with. He also upgraded us for free to a 2 bedroom unit instead of the studio unit which with 2 toddlers was a godsend!! Very close to town, a 2 minute bike ride down the road. Great central location to go on drives out to different beaches or the Anatoki Salmon farm, highly recommend this if you have kids. Free shed to keep the bikes in, free washing amenities which is great when you're constantly at the beach and bringing half of it back with you.

Saved in Paradise!

Motorcycling around the South Island we were confronted by an accommodation shortage - it seemed everything was booked out. However a call to Summerspring saved us as they had a cancellation. Talk about falling on our feet, this place is a patch of paradise. Absolute beachfront away from the madding crowd. The room is spacious, impeccably clean, the bed the best we’ve had on our journey & of course that view! Wonderful hosts, such a shame we had only the one night. By the way - took their advice for dinner at The Mussel Inn & it was fantastic, great food, beer & wine in a garden setting. Highly recommend!

Quite luxury in Takaka

A lovely quiet area, 2 mins from Takaka town. The ensuite (Heron Room) was wonderful, the kitchen/lounge was first class, well stocked and easy and I was warmly welcomed onto the guest house and made to feel at home right away. Ken, went out of his way to assist me with my technical issues on my phone. The Labyrinth rocks were part of the guest house, surrounded by gardens, chickens and of course the Labyrinth Rocks were right next door. Wonderful for children and adults alike to enjoy. If I was staying longer I would have stayed a week or more. Would highly recommend staying here!! I will be returning if/when I go back to Takaka.

Charming, comfortable, 19th Century villa with a wonderful friendly host.

Reviewed By Jake T

The house itself is a 19th Century villa that was originally built by the host's great grandfather. It has been updated over the years but in a manner that has allowed it to fully retain it's old-world charm. There are two rooms, with twin single beds in one and a queen/king double in the other. There is a large bathroom with modern shower, large bath (with candles if one wants a candle-lit bath) and brand new lavatory. These rooms are all upstairs with views overlooking a large and eclectic garden. The host is very friendly, warm and generous and made us feel like members of her extended family. There are two cats and a beautiful German Shepherd (who is super-friendly, so don't be afraid). On top of this, the stay is very reasonably priced, especially if you're splitting the bill with someone. Overall, a very highly recommended place to stay.

So this is not a hotel, this is more of AirBnB style. Hosts Jane and Steve are amazing and fun loving people. part of the house is used as a guest room. It has a separate entrance, once you are in, you have massive bedroom, then entertainment room nad lastly massive bathroom with bathtub. place was sparking clean. not sure why this is so cheap considering the size and amenities offered. Jane and Steve- you guys are superstars and thank you for having us.
