We visit pubs regularly with friends, and found this one to be a cut above the rest. The lunch menu had more interesting dishes than most pubs. Between us we had fish stew, squid, venison burger and chicken. All beautifully cooked and presented. Good to see that the cole slaw was not the usual mass-produced stuff, but a nice mixture of red cabbage and onion. As real ale lovers, however, the choice of ale could have been better. Otherwise we would highly recommend.

A traditional English country inn with five, 4 star, en suite rooms. Comfy sofas and roaring log fires in the winter and a beautifully sunny walled garden in the summer. The bar is a show case of well kept real ales, local ciders and excellent wines. Menus are full of fresh seasonal produce from local suppliers and served throughout the pub or in the dining room. Rooms are comfortably furnished with particular attention paid to the bedding and showers. This is a family run inn and the welcome guests receive is genuine and warm. An excellent base from which to explore all that Bath and Somerset has to offer.
We visited the Oakhill last night for our daughters 11th birthday. Our daughter is profoundly disabled and wasn’t in the best of health but thanks to the amazing welcome we received we had a fabulous meal. The landlady and bar staff couldn’t do enough for us, they were upbeat and we all had a good laugh. They moved tables for our daughters wheelchair and made sure we had suitable cutlery for her to eat. The food was delicious, fairly priced and my husband tells me the beer was spot on! To top it off they added candles to our daughters desert to sing happy birthday. Our daughter is non verbal but that wasn’t even considered, she was treated as any other 11 year old would be. Thank you Oakhill we will be back

We stayed for one night at the Manor House, to break our journey to Torquay. Fab room, very clean, comfortable bed and a great en-suite with a large waterfall shower. Had a lovely meal in the adjoining pub. and a few drinks in the evening. Situated in a very quiet, pretty village.

Just got back from a 4 night break here. A lovely friendly hotel with ample private parking in a good location for exploring the area. Room was a good size (104) and a very comfy bed. A freshly cooked breakfast with good quality products and named brand cereals lovely chunky bread for you to toast yourself. The bar food was really good and both food and drink were very reasonably priced. A small but very well stocked bar and a lovely garden and patio to sit out and eat drink and relax. Locals using the hotel bar were all really friendly and welcoming. Without a doubt we would return to the hotel if we visit the area again and I would highly recommend to others. This hotel did everything you could want for a short relaxing break. Thanks Lorraine a gem of a place.

The Mendip Inn is an exciting country pub and coaching rooms concept at the foot of the Mendip Hills, near Glastonbury. The Mendip Inn takes the concept of a great British Pub and adds an exciting, contemporary style of its own, to the food and design. Without losing the sense of welcome that you receive at the very best pubs. First class service is at the heart of all that we do.
Excellent little place to stay. The room was decorated to high standards. Very clean. Plenty of drinking facilities in your room. A very cosy room. The food was to die for very tasty amazing portions. Every single staff was so chatty, friendly helpful. A credit to you. Next time will stay in a room with a bath in. A lovely little bag left outside your room for breakfast. Highly recommend ?

Come away from your daily routine and indulge in the tranquil seclusion of Bowlish House. We're well equipped for weary travellers and romantic weekends away alike. Located in the beautiful Georgian village of Bowlish, this perfect example of early Georgian architecture is the ultimate haven for a peaceful escape, an all-inclusive intimate wedding, a respectful wake or a quiet business meeting. We’re nestled on the Wells Road a stone’s throw from local attractions such as the ancient Cathedral city of Wells, Longleat Safari Park, Wookie Hole Caves, Glastonbury Tor, and the vibrant local towns of Frome and Bruton. Bowlish House was completed in 1732 and is a Grade II Georgian house. Though lovingly restored, Bowlish House is not without its quirks, for example our creaky original floorboards. Guests can select from the Double Room, Family Room or three King Rooms which all feature smart-enabled flat screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. A continental breakfast is included in cost of booking. . Our hand event spaces are open to guests for private bookings, and our well-appointed sittings rooms feature roaring fires, classical portraiture, and cosy seating. We look forward to welcoming you.
The first night we arrived, the whole place seemed pretty much shut down. There were no lights on in the reception area and just one member of staff on hand, who glumly told us there is a bar, but they wouldn't be opening it for us that night. I noticed there was no soap in our room and when I mentioned it to her, she said she'd see what she could do. The beds were comfy but the floorboards so creaky it was distracting. The following morning, after a pretty average breakfast, I asked about soap again and was told they'd see what they could do. Once it was finally given to us, I suggested to the woman that she also provide some to the other guests, who'd told me they too had no soap, and she rolled her eyes and walked off. The shower in our room leaked so badly it flooded the floor and drenched some of my clothing. By the time we were dressed and ready to go out, the hotel was again deserted, with not a single member of staff on site. We had some wine we wanted to put in a fridge, but there was no one to ask about it, so we stashed it in the hotel bar's fridge, which we were later admonished for by the owner. We took a look in the B&B's beautiful garden, and got locked out - as there was no one in the building, we had to climb over into the neighbouring property's garden and walk round. If there has been a serious emergency on site, there would have been no one to deal with it. Once the owner arrived later that day, everything was switched on - she was fully booked that night and had friends coming, so rolled out the red carpet, which we were certainly denied the previous evening. The owner later came up to our room and accused us of smoking or burning candles, as the fire safety lights had come on. It was like being back in school. The B&B is massively over-priced for what it offers - there are few facilities, the food is average and to say the staff are lacklustre is putting it kindly. The website is misleading to say the least: it's not boutique accommodation, there's no coffee shop, no yoga and no orangery restaurant with 'seasonal food' and cream teas. There's only breakfast, with limited options, as they'd run out of quite a few things. This is the first hotel review I've ever written but, having spent the last 20 years travelling around the world staying in everything from huts in remote parts of Africa, to top hotels, it's the first time I felt short-changed and moved to complain.

#We visited here because it looked good on the website and could not believe just how good it was when we arrived. What an absolute gem of a place, with such a great atmosphere and old world charm. We could not believe the quality of the food that was served real MasterChef standard. The owner, Tony, was so welcoming and made you feel you were part of the family. We were only there one night but we will definitely be returning.

Stayed for two nights initially in a very small room then asked to be moved. Larger room had a very dirty bathroom with soiled towels one with a blood stain, and the bath was discussing and had mould all around the taps. Skirting by the toilet had what appeared to be a brown substance in it. Road noise meant a 4am wake up call as lorries thundered three feet past me window. Definitely one to avoid!
