This small intimate restaurant created from the front rooms of a former residence has existed for many years and developed a continuing repute and support based on an interesting menu with well presented food.
Our visits 10 years apart have identified a much improved décor and a more relaxed attitude to deliver customer expectations.
More frequent checking by service staff is however recommended.
We will happily return again.

A very good choice for excellent food, especially if you are staying at this hotel. The wines were also good but expensive.

Sunday lunch, masses of vegetables to go with the roast beef, lovely gravy, Yorkshire et al....but by far what I was looking forward to most was re-sampling the fabulous local pork pies piled up on the bar with home made pickles...simply awesome, best I have ever tasted and a fantastic pie and pint starter. My wife declined any starter but what a surprise my pork pie was soon divied up so she could get her share. With a lovely fire, locals a plenty this isn't a yuppy Somerset weekender...just great food, lovely setting and great service....awesome

We went on the recommendation of Trip Advisor , and , as usual, It didn't let us down. A warm welcome from humans (and dogs!) and excellent, freshly cooked food. It's a pity the restaurant area is all rather dark brown , which rather lets down everything else . Recommend.

The George Inn

The George is an award-winning, traditional, dog-friendly, family-owned and operated 17th-century village pub. We serve fresh food prepared from local ingredients, including local meat, game and foraged foods. We grow our own veg, herbs and fruit and make our own ice creams as well! We are renowned for cooking fresh fish and seafood from the south coast -- some say our scallops are so good they are "to die for." And our locally reared meat is mouth-wateringly good. We have two craft beers produced exclusively for us, three other guest ales and eight local ciders. With a lovely beer garden for the summer and a log fire in the winter, families and dog-walkers are always welcome. We have four en-suite bedrooms for b&b and a multi-purpose self-contained function room and skittles alley. But most of all there is "... ALWAYS A FRIENDLY WELCOME."

Thatched Cottage

We stayed here for two nights, 7/8 August, we're glad that was all! I have to say at the outset that we only breakfasted, with which we were quite happy. Only basic cereals available as self-serve, cooked is to order and was quite good. Other menus looked only average and not very adventurous. The Thatched Inn is shown as an AA 4 Star Inn with framed certificate at the doorway. We wonder if/when AA revisit / review their listings as this isn't the first time we have had cause to question them! Be aware that this "Inn" also appears to be a local drinking hole for local workers, visible in their reflective jackets and soiled clothing. The main problem was siting of the small number of rooms - you are either facing the fairly busy main road or over the kitchen or cellar fan at the rear, where staff smoked occasionally. To be fair to staff, we queried road noise and were offered a rear room, with the advice about the cellar fan, but that it stopped around 11pm - no, it came back on intermittently during the night! Room sizes are average, ours was en-suite, comfortable bed with good linen, tea/coffee ok, tv's are small and was wall mounted in our room on a swing arm which collided with the bathroom door when opened! Bathroom ceiling alarm and lights had been replaced at some point but there were gaps around them awaiting filling and painting. Shower power was good but over the bath with an over-long curtain. Bath side panel is hardboard with lifting and peeling paintwork. The toilet cistern filled very noisily after flushing with vibrating cold water pipes! Finally, for the duration of our mid-week stay, we saw no sign of "management" who could answer queries - I suppose they may have been away - but the same staff seemed to have to manage reception, bar and dining room. Overall, it did not meet our expectations from its advert and we won't stay here again.

Booked for four of us last Saturday evening. Friendly check-in by owner(?) and quickly provided with drinks/food menus. A well balanced menu with that evenings 'specials'. Maybe think of offering a few cocktail drinks?
The four of us all had the warm Camembert to start and it was excellent with chutney & bread even if it is a 'simple' starter.
The main courses were really good - two had the pork, one the trout fillets and one the cod & chips. All were decent portions & cooked beautifully - the chips were outstanding.
The waitress was friendly & efficient & warned us they had a big table in so service might be a little slow that night. It wasn't but we appreciated the early warning.
I was too full to have a dessert but the others enjoyed theirs!
A great little restaurant that deserves its high local rating.
NB Remember to book if it's a Friday or Saturday night.

It used to be better - slightly offbeat, but friendly with wholesome food. Ir's changed direction, probably for economic reasons. The food is distinctly average, but I can't understand the pricey comment made by one person. Pricey it isn't.
A chicken curry consisting of a a few bits of chicken in creamy sauce and a an upturned bowl of boiled rice is definitely not shouting 'presentation skills' at the top of its voice. The waiting staff just deliver food which you have to order at the bar. Trying to grab the attention of a passing waiter, will only reinforce that for you.
It's pleasant enough, but I would never consider it for an occasion.

Well, this was selected by family members fairly cold ,when we were planning the annual return/meet up for a pre Christmas lunch together at our old school hunting ground.
So we were not sure what to expect .
We were greeted by some lovely ladies and we welcomed thier courteous and efficient service.
The menu selection was good and we were so pleased to have plumped for the set lunch.
This was excellent value for money, freshly prepared and hit all the taste spots with some lovely presentation .We all agreed this was a 5* lunch, so many congratulations to all, my brothers' only mild beef was that there was no draft beer.
This did not stop them enjoying a lovely bottle (2 or was it 3?) of an excellent local brewery
