An unique and amazing experience

Reviewed By TravelFromFrankfurt

The KAWA mountain retreat is a real unique gem. Located on the hill overlooking the entry to beautiful Valle del Cocora, it offers everything you need for a nice stay. Nicely decorated and spacious rooms, professional and friendly staff which even speaks English, delicious food, stunning views, cute dogs, a heated outside jacuzzi, and more. It is only a 5-10 minute walk into the town of Salento, but beware: a 4x4 is recommended for the road that leads to the hotel. We have extended our stay because we loved it so much and are looking forward to return one day. We liked the whole vibe of this place which was secluded due to its unique location on one side but offered quite a fast way into town (10 min walking) on the other side. Staff was also very helpful and had alot of recommend for trips and activities. In fact we liked it so much in here that we even extended our stay.

Beyond Exceptional in Every Way!!!

From the moment I first spoke to Sonia, there was no reason to look elsewhere to stay during our family trip to el eje cafetero. She immediately gave me the confidence that we'd be taken care of no matter what. My husband, two adolescent children, and I stayed in two bedrooms, side by side, with a bathroom. The rooms were so spacious and clean! The towels were changed out daily, and the staff made sure to thoroughly clean the rooms every single day. In the morning, we were greeted with a spread of amazingly delicious food, including butter, cheese and jams made by Sonia herself! If eggs is what you like for breakfast, you can have them made any way you want. Want bacon too? Make your request. There is never a request too big for Sonia. One night, Sonia and Hector prepared an asado with ingredients all grown by the family themselves, and this was probably the best meal we had while in "el eje cafetero". Sonia made things easy...from renting a car to booking tours to making dinner reservations to being transported to nearby towns to helping me find medication I needed. She even bought me a cake and decorated with balloons and a festive sign for my birthday! There was never anything Sonia could not do, and no detail ever escaped her. She, her family (Hector and Jhaysson), and her staff (Nancy and Huber) were exceptional hosts our entire stay. We especially miss our evening talks in the living room by the fire, the dogs, the cow, the pigs, the roosters and hens, the birds, the breath of fresh and cool mountain air, and of course, Sonia!! We leave knowing we've left a piece of our hearts at La Adelita and will be back because we gained a home away from home!

Hotel Terasu Salento

Terasu Hotel is just a few minutes from the Town Square of Salento, where you can take a 'Willie' (Jeep) to the Cocora Mountains, take a walk to 'Calle Real' and discover unique hand crafts from Salento's. Hotel Terasu Salento was built in mind for the world travelers that expect the great comforts of a premier hotel. The word Terasu, which in Japanese means Terraces, was adequately selected for this property due to the addition of a Terrace in each and every room throughout the hotel. These terraces are designed to enjoy bird watching from the privacy of your own room, or to enjoy a great cup of Colombian coffee in the morning or a fine glass of wine in the evening after exploring the Cocora Valley and the coffee region of Colombia. The materials and decor for the property were carefully selected, from the fine touches of wood throughout, to the great coffee region mural on the main Terrace, and last but not least, the fine modern touches of the furniture and boardwalk.

This is a beautiful small hotel- room was large and spotless, with a lovely terrace. The staff are very sweet and helpful-speaking good English. They gave us information about the area, tours and transport to the airport. Location is a short walk from the centre so it’s very peaceful with lovely views. Lastly, breakfast was fabulous-made to order every morning and very tasty.

Clean, but cramped

Reviewed By clsmiles

This hostel was in a good location and very clean. Beds were fine and the hot shower was lovely. It wasn’t comfortable for our family of 4 however. Our room was very small so we had little room to move around or even put our luggage. We were in a downstairs room and there were no windows except out to the enclosed courtyard which made our room extremely dark and not at all private. There is very little sitting available in the entrance/ common area and the fluorescent lighting made the whole place feel very sterile . There is no breakfast served despite it being advertised ( but there are plenty of great places to eat in town!!).Fabio was extremely informative. This is a nice place, but best for solo or maybe couples traveling.

Probably the best hotel in Salento

Generally (IMO) Salento is very “backpackery” compared to Jardin so I found the accommodation there not as nice as Jardin. Having said that, this hotel felts so comfortable and nice. People who work there are amazing, the rooms are charming and very comfortable. I highly recommend staying here when visiting Salento as it’s probably the best option in town.

A absolute gem

Reviewed By RLSMHS

The hotel experience at Monarca is magical. The view, the food, the service is just absolutely top notch. Only about 9 rooms so very few guests at a time so you literally get personalized service ALL hours of the day - whatever you need whether a meal, laundry, taxi, getting the jacuzzi ready for you, booking a day trip they will do for you without hesitation. There is an open kitchen with a set menu but they will modify to whatever your dietary requirements are - food prices are reasonable and they are so accommodating. Tips: bring warm clothes as the room is freezing at night and consider bringing your own wine as they don't have a big selection and what they have is more expensive than what you can get if you buy your own. Leave plenty of time for breakfast because if they are cooking for multiple guests it will take really long. Would stay here again a hundred times over!

Best Horseback Riding Tour Ever!!!

Reviewed By Thekeisers

We did not stay at the reserva but we did spend the day with Diego for the horseback riding excursion, which was the #1 highlight of our two weeks in Colombia. Just wow is all we can say. Diego was extremely kind and welcoming when we arrived, and it was immediately clear that we were in good hands. There were two other couples on the tour, with varying levels of experience. Diego gave us a brief lesson on how to control the horses and provided us with boots to wear due to some mud that we would have the option to trek through at a later point on the tour. He also let me wear one of his hats which made me feel like a cowgirl. The horses were beautiful, well cared for, and all of them were very well behaved on our tour. I can not express enough how gorgeous the views were along our journey through Diego’s private property which was HUGE and beyond stunning. It felt like we were in another world. Once we reached the top of the peak he gave us wine and crackers, we all got off of our horses and sat around talking and getting to know one another. The whole experience was so amazing and honestly if you are thinking about it, just do it!!! I’ve done a lot of horseback riding excursions around South and Central America and this was definitely one of the best I have ever done.
