Set in a tranquil, green setting within easy reach of all that the Blenheim area has to offer, The Jolly Poacher offers something different. Its detached, delightful hunting and fishing themed lodges contrast with the normal stark motel units. Very comfortable beds, breakfast based around fresh eggs from the retreat's hens and home made preserves. Add the marvelous welcome and hosting of owners Helen and Dave and you have an accommodation option that places it above the pack. Highly recommended.

Stayed here for one night before the Picton Ferry. Welcomed on arrival and made to feel welcome. Room, bathroom and small living room were very well maintained and appropriately decorated for the period of the building. Home made biscuits and a selection of hot drinks available. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast far more than we expected. A continental with homemade preserves, muesli and breads. Also a menu for cooked items. Scrambled eggs on toast was delicious. all served by the hosts on the balcony. Loved our stay and highly recommend.

Kippilaw House

Feel relaxed, warm and comfortable at Kippilaw House our guests often mention that they have walked in as guests and left us as friends. We are just a few minutes stroll to the waters edge of the Marlborough Sounds, cafes and various activities. Margaret is a professional chef/caterer of many years standing and loves sharing her recipes and experience in food. Bill is excellent passing on knowledge of the region things to do and see. Originally from the borders of Scotland he spent all his school holidays at Kippilaw Estate where his grandfather was the groom. We also operate a very well stocked deli Trailer at the Marlborough Farmers Market in Blenheim on Sundays where guests are most welcome to enjoy their breakfasts if staying Saturday night with us. We pride ourselves on good southern hospitality and place equal importance on the breakfast and the comfortable beds. Our point of difference is providing freshly sourced food with menus changing daily. Complementary afternoon tea is served at 3pm if you have not arrived this is left covered in your room. We make tasty interesting packed breakfasts for early travellers to take away.

Excellent place to stay. Great hospitality. Close to Picton ferry terminal (5min drive). We were on our way to Dunedin and decided to stay here for a night. Easy communication, great welcome and comfortable stay in a boutique style house. Very clean, and every necessity was available. Great homemade breakfast was also included in our stay. I highly recommend this place to stay and experience the difference.

A wonderful experience !!!

This is a wonderful grand period house set in a lovely garden. While located less than 15 minutes out of Blenheim, it's actually close to many of NZ's leading vineyards. Reshma, your hostess, is very attentive and knowledgable about the area and delighted in giving us excellent suggestions for us to get the most out of our stay. Bicycles of every size are available free of charge and mostly well developed bike paths and country lanes allow you to bike to the various vineyards for wine tasting and meals. Reshma lives off site and the house comprises various room sizes and facilities for guests. There is a wonderful communal sitting room, but the seating outside on the gorgeous veranda with a view over the garden was my favourite spot in the late afternoon. Breakfast is available in whatever form you wish in the open plan kitchen/dining area with views out over the east facing garden. I tried to be strong but eventually my standard muesli & yoghurt breakfast gave way to the delights of a solid cooked breakfast.

Thanks lovely Annie for opening your house for us, we had a wonderful stay.
