Agriturismo Vultaggio

In the ancient Baglio, an old farm house, you will discover the typical sicilian colours, scents and tastes. Agriturismo Vultaggio is located between Erice and Marsala, sorrounded by citrus and olive groves, vineyard; in front of Egadi isles and Mothia. Only 10 minutes far from Marausa Lido beach. Our restaurant, from 2001 on Osterie d'Italia (Slow Food magazine), Foodies (Gambero Rosso magazine), has been focusing on Slow Food philosophy. We use only products from our crops, local products and Sicilian Slow Food (Pistacchio from Bronte, lentils from Ustica, Sicilian black bee honey, seasalt of Trapani, red garlic from Nubia, Vastedda cheese from Valle del Belice, black porc from Nebrodi, etc). You can taste different rustic appetizers (olives, panelle, caponata, cheese, cold cuts and other specialities) our "busiate", fresh typical hand-made pasta of Trapani area; main corses with meat choice; side dishes with vegetables from our crops. New entry in our menu: Pizza! Slow leavening (24h), "Antichi Grani Siciliani" biological flour and others local biological flour (Molini del Ponte from Castelvetrano) for a crisp and tasting pizza of choice.

This is the second time we have visited this hotel as a family with young children. We have been made so welcome, with great professionalism and friendliness. All the reception staff from Giuseppe, Alessandro, Loredana, Gabi and Sonia were so helpful. The hotel is lovely and the rooms spacious, clean and elegant. We were on full board and the food was great despite it was the busiest week of the year. There is also lovely entertainment for the children all day with a dance show every night.

I stayed there with my family over the "Ognissanti" weekend. PROS: Food was nice and abundant; waitress and waiters were polite, courteous, and professional. CONS: Nobody has checked our green pass at the check-in, which I am not sure is mandatory. However, the restaurant was indoor and poorly ventilated (no windows and/or doors open): nobody checked our green pass. Many people gathered in the lobby, at the bar, at the game room, and at the large meeting room without mask. Nobody from the Hotel staff said anything about this poor habit. Only at the restaurant people were reminded to wear a mask if not sitting. We avoided the "after dinner" shows as the room was packed with people without mask and the room was poorly ventilated.

mediocre

The first day we arrived in the middle of the night. There we’re no snacks or drinks offered, not even a bottle of water. The room was clean and modern, also airconditioned. nothing to say about that. very nice. The second day we woke up early and wanted to sit by the pool but there was no space available. The pool guy Flavio helped us find a spot after all. thanks for that. All the guests wake up early and place their towels on the sunning beds, it’s a practice i don’t favor but it’s your only option if you want to sit by the pool during the day. at 11 aquagym starts but that’s it for any activities or entertainment during the day. If you book this hotel with the expectations of having a real italian culinary experience you’re mistaken. I’m not a picky eater but i have to say the food was terrible. For people who don’t eat pork or are vegetarian you don’t have a lot of options. The pasta is not even al dente it’s just undercooked by a lot. The same food everyday, they just switch between lunch and dinner what to serve but mostly it’s the same. no desserts, the drinks we’re just syrup mixed with water. The all inclusive formula offers you breakfast lunch pool snacks, dinner and drinks. We didn’t see any pool snacks just little bowls of potato chips that you had to put in a napkin and take back to your sunning beds. You can drink all you want but the alcoholic drinks won’t even give you a slight buzz. my guess it’s just laced with water. The a la carte restaurant is great if you have a lot of patience. 45-/+ minutes for a pizza. also the all inclusive ends at 10 in the evening. side note, that’s when the entertainment starts. You have to pay €10 to have it extended until 12 at night but it’s not worth it at all. You can choose between limoncello, wine, beer, rum and syrup mixed drinks. if you want something stronger like vodka or whiskey you have to buy a kiwi card and pay the full price for a glass. This is the only all inclusive hotel i have been to, where you need to have your wallet with you at all times because you have to pay extra for every small thing they can think of. Wifi is €2/day. tourist fee + corona taxes is €5/day. Don’t let the cheap booking price fool you :) Kiwi travel offers excursions where you have to pay at around 25-50 but almost nothing is included. We booked the excursion to Erice and the boot tour and they we’re both cancelled at the last time. The area the hotel is located in is very cute but also very boring. during the day everything is closed because of siesta and in the evening you can visit a couple of small restaurants and cafe’s but not any bars or clubs. In two weeks we didn’t find any place to party or dance. so this is definitely a hotel i would recommend older people. The night entertainment is the same every day, bingo or karaoke. Fun but not something you want to do every night. Federico is a singer that gives a show every night. Great singer, lovely guy but looking at a karaoke screen while singing the same 5 songs every day is not entertaining. On friday a group of local italians arrive. The already overcrowded hotel suddenly turns into a place for the local italians to let loose. The staff, entertainment, music, not a single english sentence from friday until sunday. Very unfortunate for the people who traveled al these hours from legit a whole ass other country to be set aside. literally set aside. we had to sit on the steps because the local italians take in all the tables and chairs in the evening. And it’s the same every weekend. The animation team or should i say duo? Clarissa is very sweet but only speaks italian which is very unfortunate for her. Khaled is the head of animation and i think the only thing that made our stay at hopps pleasurable. Such a fun guy who tries to make the best of our stay with the limited resources he is given. All by all we had a very fun trip but i think the hotel should drop a star so people don’t have such high expectations. Khaled, Clarissa, Flavio & Federico. big thanks to you!

Rather tired resort in SW Sicily

Reviewed By rgroome

I would preface my review by saying that we visited this resort at the end of the summer (late Sept/early Oct), and it was in the middle of the COVID 19 outbreak. So many of the surrounding restaurants, bars and shops were either closed or operating strange hours. We had two apartments with excellent sea views from the balconies. Large and clean, they were a bit tired and had some broken fittings, plus some of the stair lighting didn’t work. Surprisingly, there were no cloths, tea towels, washing up liquid and hardly any toilet paper, which we had to ask for three times. There was also no electric kettle supplied in either apartment, nor available on site, which would have been an improvement, but otherwise the apartments were quite adequate, with good WiFi. On site there is a children’s pool and playground (looking a bit tired), and a private beach with parasols/sunloungers. The on-site restaurant tried hard with a very friendly waitress, but the food was not brilliant and the choice limited. Going elsewhere was difficult because of COVID closures, but we eventually found Baffos in Selinunte (used to be the Lido d’Azzurra), and a great pizzeria/restaurant Cibus in TreFontana. The resort charges 200 Euro per apartment per week for utilities, cleaning and supposedly discounts on local amenities, but we were not offered any of those. It’s quiet, restful and the weather was good, so if you want to be that end of the island this is an option.

When we did get a room after looking at three is was right at the rear of the hotel. The other rooms were poor one star if you wore rose tinted glasses. The room we ended up with was in an apartment block it was airy and clean nice bathroom. When we stayed there was a problem with the electrics and at 3:30 each morning the doors woolly open and the emergency lights would come on. This problem was solved after three nights of our early alarm call. Because it was end of season the management moved us to the main building for our third and final weeks stay. Well what a let down. Small rooms not well appointed and no double bed just two singles pushes together To add insult to injury the management decided to switch the ac off. The problem with this was we were working a week of nights so yes it’s nice and cold at night but still 24 plus during the day. Breakfast was of a very poor quality and not warm for hot items and cold item warm. Staff were very helpful in every area of operation

Great location, close to the Greek historical sites, but an extremely noisy pool area

Reviewed By Ginger1Winterthur

After a long drive from Gela, arriving in the late afternoon we tried to enjoy the last sun rays at the pool. To our surprise the pool area was transformed to a Gym / fitness / Karaoke area, the sound out of the loudspeakers was so high that I was unable to talk to my wife. We decided to visit the Greek Historical sites before the sunset. This was a great decision. We highly recommend planning a complete visit not only of the Temple but to include also the visit of the Acropolis. This region is really great, close by you can visit Menfi, in the middle of nice vineyards as well the Riserva Naturale Foce del Fiume Belice. The breakfast at the hotel was quite nice even if we felt a little bit lost in this large restaurant room, it was a pity not to be able to seat outside by such a great weather.

Our friends and we (my wife and I) spent a terrefic fortnight in July in Selinunte Beach. It's a four-star-hotel deserves five stars definetely.Perfect and very spacy rooms with a big bathroom, a balcony with a garden view decorated in white-blue (Mediterranean style). Not very many people, I would rather say - few people on week days. but a lot of italians at week-ends. It's a good experience: to practise Italian and see the latest fashion/ Italians do like to show off.A perfect animation team, fantastic music, dances, gymnastics (stretching and aqwaaerobics). The staff is polete and helpful. We were especially thankful to Nicolette (reception manager). She helped us to arrange many trips to Erichi, Trapani, Castelvetrano, Agrigento and other beautiful places of Southern Sicily. But the most wonderful thing was the restaurant and thr food was terrefic, fantastic, divine, gorgeous, Besides, the waiters liked us so much that they presented us home-made brown bread and home made olive oil. The only minus was the sea. It was rather far away (about 1 km),and that year the Mediterranean sea was cool if not cold +18. I would recommend this hotel who like quiet rest,Italian(Sicilian) cousine, Italians, sights, music, sun and happiness.
