Popped into the Emporium for a mocha today, the staff were so friendly and helpful, and made us feel at home. There is so much to see, this is our second visit and we still haven't seen everything. We plan to come back soon for lunch and a long leisurely browse. Love everthing about it!

Dawe's Twineworks

The UK's only surviving Victorian Twineworks. An education, tourism and community site which welcomes visitors. We celebrate the former hugely important Somerset and Dorset twine, rope and sailcloth industries which were built on locally grown flax and hemp. We have a 100m 'twinewalk' on 2 levels, with machinery that made twine, working, and driven by a 1927 oil engine. We have a visitor centre (funded by the Lottery Heritage) with the usual facilities and displays. We make no fixed charges but the project is run and managed by local volunteers and we are entirely dependent on donations from visitors. We are open at present on the 4th Saturday of every month. Other visits by appointment - groups very welcome.

Reviewed By Cloglet

Extremely interesting and very well thought out, the volunteers have got the Victorian machinery running again so that you can see how twine was made. Cannot recommend highly enough. Who would have thought that string/twine/rope could be so fascinating. Currently only open the 4th Saturday of each month, or for group visits by prior arrangement. Located next to 94 High St, West Coker. Also if you are fortunate enough to be able to partake of the Somerset & Dorset Jurassic Tasting Menu I would highly recommend it - absolutely delicious!!
