Villars-Gryon Ski Center

Reviewed By LondonBeagle - london

Villars has been providing skiing to the well-heeled for about 150 years now.
The skiing ranges from moderate blues to some tricky reds and much in-between. Hard core off-pisters will find it a bit tame.
There is a delightful train from the village up to Bretaye - the main centre. This can get very crowded indeed in season and you'd be well advised to begin your journey from Roc D'Orsey a few hundred yards before the village. Very swift tele-cabin with short q's and an easy run down to Bretaye from there.
Plenty of on-slope places to take your money and expensively refresh you.
They resort links easily (no bus) with Diablerets which is less crowded and has some delightful runs among the trees.
You can also head up the glacier but it's just not worth it - the skiing is poor and the run down is very tricky. Lovely view tho'.
Like all resorts you need to judge where you go at what time. the main chair in Bretaye can get very congested at highs season - especially in mornings and after lunch.
There are nice picnic spots at Bretaye, Diablerets and Roc D'Orsey where you can leave your rucksack. All are near to restaurants if you need a top up.
Ski pass prices are typically Swiss. Skiing in Switzerland isn't cheap.
Big with families and Brits
Not a huge amount to do in the Village (there's an ice rink, bowling alley and similar stuff), but there's an excellent website which keeps you updated with stuff going on.
I'd highly recommend the whole area in summer when it is absolutely delightful.

We've been using them for 30 years and have never been disappointed! Reasonable prices and great rental skis and boots. We live that it is right next to the le chaux telecabine in Barboleuse.

Tobogganing Park

Such great fun going down different slopes! I had a brilliant time when I went there. Each slope has a number assigned depending on the steepness so you will definitely find one (or a few) you feel comfortable with. Or start with the 'easy' one and move up! If you are really brave you can go for the most challenging one - at the end of it you leave the ground and land on a big airbag. This one is not covered by your standard ticket, but it's only a couple of franks more and you can buy the additional ticket after one of your rides. Great place in a great location.

One tip - don't just sit down in your toboggan and go, wait for a member of staff to direct you.

Impressive monastery that has been in continuous service for over 15 centuries. The highlight is the treasury as the grounds are less impressive than I expected.
Public parking is limited but your entry ticket includes a recorded guide in various languages.

Les Bains de Lavey

Reviewed By Shipwrecked49 - UK

Lovely setting surrounded by Mountains and from the pictures, an evening visit looks even more romantic, but we unfortunately only could go for a few hours in the afternoon
As we were travelling around the area on the train, we had packed our costumes, but be aware, also pack your own Towel!. They do not provide towels and you are made to purchase one at 25chf each, this was very disappointing on what was a lovely relaxing time in the waters and various pools
Changing rooms and facilities are very good and clean as you would expect and the reception staff really helpful, booking a taxi for us to get back to the train station
If we were in the area again, we would go back - but take our own towels

Extraordinary place for snow loving people. Travel to Col Du Pillon (Cable car base) from Aigle is like starter for this place. As cable cars starts to climb to top, adventure feeling thrives at best. The place is so amazing and make you forget rest of the things. Definitely would like to visit again.
Tips: Better to have a look at weather forecast for a day you plan to visit. The bright sunny day will give utmost joy. Even if it's minor snow fall which will still work for you. But if weather is not good you won't be able to experience what you see in pics.
