Kungsleden

A 450-kilometer-long hiking trail through northern Sweden.

Reviewed By iporze - Indiana, United States

I started on my solo hike in Abisko and branched off to Vistas from Alesjaure and then hooked back into the Kundsleden trail at Salka via Nallo, and then onto Singi and Kebnekaise mountain station. The trail was simply amazing, and the folk one meets along the way was very diverse. The after dinner hut discussions were funny as was the broad range of topics discussed. From Kebnekaise I returned to Singi and hiked over in Norway via Hukejaure hut which was closed when I got there. I had obtained a hut key for the norwegian huts and I did a circular route back to abisko via Gautelis, Unna Allakas back to Alesjaure and Abisko. An amazing series of trails that really lets one experience safe hiking above the arctic circle. The simple pleasure of just drinking from the streams without concern was a great as well. Instead of flying back to Stockholm I booked a private sleeper and enjoyed a great train trip thru Sweden as well, great way to end the trip.

Guitars the Museum

This space holds a guitar similar to the one Keith Richards used to play the Honky Tonk Women riff. And here's one like the one Eric Clapton used for his solo in Layla. And the kind that Jimi Hendrix set on fire in Monterrey. But how in the world did these and hundreds more rare and priceless guitars from the 1950s and 1960s end up in Umea and become Guitars - The Museum? Why aren't they hanging in the MoMA in New York, or in the Tate Modern in London? This is the story of how the Ahden twins from Vannasby managed to put together the world's finest collection of vintage guitars surreptitiously, almost in secret. Guided tours 12.00, 15.00 & 17.00.

I wasn't sure I wanted to go, as I feared looking at a bunch of guitars would be boring (no matter how old and unique they were). I finally went as my airbnb host insisted that it was something not to miss. I was pleasantly surprised: I arrived in time for the guided tour, and got a glimpse of the crazy stories around some of these guitars, thanks to a very knowledgeable guide. Never got bored. Even if you're not passionate about guitars, I would recommend a visit!

Vasterbottens Museum

Reviewed By Kipuka83 - Oslo, Norway

It is a small open air museum. We were there during the Samisk veckan (the sami week) in march and they had activities and real reindeer on the premises :) Thanks to a recent snowfall and perfect blue sky it was a great day to visit the museum. The museum building also houses some interesting collections and exhibitions about the region.

Lycksele Djurpark

Reviewed By Majsan1980 - Luleå, Sweden

The most northern animal park in Sweden. Wolves, bears, elks, lynx, wolverine. A small childrens park with goats, guinea pigs, swine, rabbits etc. It was easy to see most of the animals even though the wolverine and the lynx where a bit reserved and hide. There were bear cubs who the kids loved to see play. The large restaurant was closed due to covid but they had a wagon that sold hamburgers, langos etc. and a small cafe where you could get icecream, coffe etc. There´s a little train that you can go around the area with, which is great to get a view from.

Solbacken trading area located 3 kilometers north of Skelleftea center. It is Sweden's first and Europe's only shopping center built entirely of wood. Here are 23 stores over an area of 35 000 square meters. Location along the E4 highway and close to the city has made Solbacken into an attractive retail for both high-volume retail and clothing.
