This imposing mountain towers 14,700 feet on the Swiss-Italian border.
The towering peak of the Matterhorn straddles Switzerland and Italy is an amazing mountain that everyone should have on their bucket list. One of the mountain's secrets is that it has an igloo village at the mountain's base.

The most spectacular way to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express from Chur / Landquart / Davos / St. Moritz - Valposchiavo - Tirano links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and cultures. New: Starting on 11 May 2019, the Bernina Express will run from Landquart into Valposchiavo and on into the Italian town of Tirano. The route to/from Landquart through the Prättigau and the wild Zügen Gorge between Davos and Filisur prolongs the pleasure by just under 45 kilometres.

Last summer I took my four grandkids for a truly wonderful day out to see these magnificent birds fly so close over our heads. It was brilliant, the staff were good and very helpful and this year I am taking a group from a club for the experience too! Well worth it.

already open for skiing on the weekend and Wednesday afternoon. As well without skiing a cool peak to enjoy the view on the glacier and get something to eat and drink. A great place to start early into the ski season:)

Excellent ending destination from our hike starting in Alp Languard - we took the Panorama Trail, which was very doable with our five year-old. Just be sure to have smaller children have good walking shoes and hold a hand in areas where there is little protection/steep inclines on side of mountain. The trail, however, is fairly flat. It took us about 4 hours including breaks. The walk could also be down in the reverse direction (Muottas Muragl-->Alp Languard and down with the chair lift). The restaurant has a wonderful playground in the back and offers a seated area restaurant as well as a self-service area with tables on a huge terrace. If you are looking for a slightly cheaper option, I would highly recommend the self-service food. The food was excellent - we had a lovely lentil soup and wurstsalat. Cake and coffee were also excellent. As others have mentioned, the scenery is magnificent looking out on the lakes of St. Moritz, Sils and Silvaplana. The ride down with the furnicular is fun and unique. An excellent outing and very much worth it - our hotel included this excursion in the card with access to all local cable cars/transport.

When skiing in the area, certainty go up Piz Nair, enjoy the view and have fun on the slope down. One of the nicest trips to make.

Be sure to take a lake boat ride covering as much of the lake as you have time for, but most importantly, the stretch between Lugano and Porto Ceresio. That route will take you to Paradiso where you can take the funicular up to the top of Monte San Salvatore for a 360-degree view of the entire area, the casino at Campione (Italy), Brusino's funivia (we loved the restaurant at the top - what a view!) and the scenic gem of a town, Morcote.

The path around this beautiful lake make it an easy walk. It took me about an hour to walk round it. You get lovely views of the mountains all round, as well as of the town.
