We really enjoyed the raptor show. It was informative and entertaining, with a variety of birds. We were lucky enough to be invited to stay on at the end to watch Kyle training a dear little kestrel - and were even able to help him. The event was great value for $20 and one of the most enjoyable things I did on the island.

Kalleske Wines

In Kalleske Cellar Door you will be able to taste our current range of wines and hear all about the history behind the Kalleske vines. Cheese platters of local Barossa produce are available to purchase and can be enjoyed on a picnic blanket on the lawn or in our cozy cellar door. Or why not try a self guided food and wine flight where each local produce is paired with a Kalleske wine. Out the back you can find games like Quoits to entertain the kids whilst being surround by a beautiful garden. Come enjoy our wines and learn the rich history that went into making them. In South Australia's Barossa Valley, the Kalleske family have been farming and growing grapes since 1853 near the village of Greenock. They are one of the region's leading grape-growing families consistently growing some of the Barossa's best quality grapes. After six generations of growing grapes, winemaker and seventh generation family member, Troy Kalleske, together with his brother Tony, established the Kalleske winery and made the first 'Kalleske' wine. The vineyard is low yielding with grapes grown organically and biodynamically and the winery is also certified biodynamic/organic. The Kalleske family are active practitioners of sustainable farming. They are caretakers of the land and not only want to maintain the environment but improve it for future generations. All Kalleske wines are estate grown and vinified with minimalist winemaking techniques used to fully capture the essence of the vineyard allowing genuine handmade estate wines to be produced. The range is a diverse mix of wines that showcases the splendid Kalleske grapes. Wines from Kalleske have been seven generations in the making, but they are certainly worth the wait!

We visited on Saturday at a busy lunchtime, but this this was certainly not a problem for Donna and Amanda who handled Visiting tasters with a professional, informative and friendly approach. They were still able to give a personalised experience to all that were there. The platter we had in the beautiful relaxing outdoor area was delicious and was a perfect match to the bottle of wine we also purchased to have with it. This is a definite stop in the Barossa Valley.

We go there every winter (Southern Hemisphere winter months June, July and August). I love to see the whales, they are just amazing. There is a tourist point close to the watch point, they have lots of info, some food, and gifts. This year they had nice whale-shaped Christmas tree decorations carved in wood and dot painted by Aboriginal artists, they are really special.
The whales are always a magnificent sight, well worth travelling for hours to the Head of the Bight to see them!

Heritage Blinman Mine

The mine "wheal Blinman" was the reason for the establishment of the town 153 years ago. The town is named after shepherd Robert "Pegleg" Blinman who discovered copper on a hill while tending his flock of sheep. Now some 150 years later the mine has breathed new life into the town, drawing people interested in history, mining, minerals and outback life. People come on tour and over the course of a little over an hour step back into time and experience a taste of life in the 1860's. Our visitors leave not only with an appreciation of the lives of the Cornish miners who settled in Blinman but also of the determination and dedication to a small (very small, just 20 people) group of people who saw the opportunity to breathe new life into a town.

A must see in SA. Incredible rugged beauty, especially Wilpena Pound, Brachina Gorge and nearby sites. Wildlife is everywhere: rock wallabies, kangaroos, echidnas, emus, wedge tailed eagles, lizards, (and feral goats, rabbits etc). Plenty of aboriginal art sites too.
Rawnsley Park is probably the best base to stay. Wilpena Pound Resort is a bit tired these days....
Camping also a great option. GO!

They do not seem to be able to cope with small groups arriving at the same time - we went twice and it was the same both time. You are greeted with 'we'll be with you soon' but they weren't. And then part way through your tasting they move to another customer and just leave you.
