Definitely worth a visit, even as a non-Muslim, just to see the design of the architecture on the approach to the Masjid itself. Very nice indeed. The steps at the side of the Masjid were a bit dirty and the inside of the Masjid was not very inspiring. A bit of a shame, really.
30 mins. visit max. is all you need here. Ask your taxi driver to wait for you, otherwise you could have a very long wait to hail a taxi on the street to take you back to where you came from. After 20 mins. standing by the roadside, a couple offered me a lift in their bemo back to Simpang Lima for 20,000 Rupiah.

Curious about this building make me visit this place, was entry to this build still free, but now we must pay for each person, but its cheap.. I suggest, u should rent for the guidiance so every history while we going to turn arround the building. From the icon, its called lawang sewu mean that thousand of the doors. U may count if u try hehe.. But i recomended u must visit this place as an icon of Semarang city.

This is a place of worship, not a tourist attraction.
Nice ans quiet peaceful place with very old bodhi tree. There's monastery on the back, a library, and pagoda with large Guan Yin (Kwan Im) statue inside. You could have Tjiam Si here (chinese prophecy) with high accuracy. They also sell religious stuff like sculptures, candles, incenses, etc.
Please dont go if your kids will run arround or yell all along. This is place of worship, not a stone temple. Please have respect for them

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, a few hundred meters from the crazy busy intersection of Simpang Lima. During the day it is a chaotic mess, with cars, taxis, buses, trucks, scooters, motor bikes, and other transportation vying for space. Pedestrians who want to cross the street have to wait until they see a possible opening in traffic.
In the middle of it all is the large park, which is used for all sorts of activities, from basketball and soccer to picnics and rides in whimsically decorated tricycles and mini-scooters for the little ones.
We happened to be there on a holiday weekend, and on that very busy Saturday night there was an amazing display of people walking around, eating in the numerous little eateries, and shopping at the street market. The decorated tricycles were brightly lit at night so they had an appearance of fairytale animals floating by. It provided for great people watching.
To our happy surprise Sunday morning was "car free" morning (from 7-9 AM), which meant that no motor vehicle traffic was allowed on the streets in the Simpang Lima area. Without the myriad of scooters and other vehicles, people were able to stroll on the streets with their children. People rode bikes, danced, did exercise and Zumba, and everyone walked clockwise around the park. So much fun to experience.

The building is also called Gedong Batu locally, built to honor the Chinese moslem admiral from XIV century. The architecture and the adorning statues reflect refined Chinese culture. Come to visit this place and do not forget to try some tasty local food in some food vendor in the front building next to the entrance gate. One can also take picture in the traditional royal Chinese clothes here.

Fairly well maintained, especially considering the decay of some of the surrounding buildings. A beautiful addition to this old town atmosphere, not just colonial in spirit, but overall more laid back and mellow than some of the other traffic-choked sections of the city. Where all the buildings line up on the TA map don't seem to correspond to how they appear in reality. If you are looking for the church, locals will direct you to it.

Tay Kak Sie Temple is located in Pecinan area, Semarang's old district. Beautiful Chinese Temple that is well visited by local worshippers and tourists. One of my children favorite spot when we lived in Semarang. Very close to Loenpia Gang Lombok.

This Cathedral gonna give us some description of Holland architectural that assimilate local wisdom. A taste from the past, very well preserved though now it have some additional feature such as AC, sound system, projector, etc. It is said that one of the wall behind the altar have a masterpiece from Indonesian artist legend : Affandi, but now you just can find a white painted wall, what a pity.
