10 Things to do in Schöneberg That You Shouldn't Miss

April 5, 2022 Weston Hennigan

Berlin is an edgy city, from its fashion to its architecture to its charged political history. The Berlin Wall is a sobering reminder of the hyper-charged postwar atmosphere, and yet the graffiti art that now covers its remnants has become symbolic of social progress. Check out the Weltzeituhr (world time) Clock, topped by a model of the solar system, then turn back time by dining at the historic Zur Letzten Instanz, a 16th century restaurant that was frequented by Napoleon and Beethoven.

Isherwood's Neighbourhood Walking Tour

Starting and ending at Nollendorfplatz, this two-hour tour visits the neighbourhood British writer Christopher Isherwood lived in during his time in Berlin in the last years of the Weimar Republic and where he wrote his famous Berlin diaries, which were to become the iconic film & stage musical, Cabaret. The walk includes readings from his novels and diaries and takes in the sights he wrote about and the cafes, bars and clubs he frequented. Taste the city as he saw it in those uncertain times, where Cabaret was born, genders were blurred and a film premiere caused riots! Tours are usually on Saturday at 11am, but other times are available by arrangement.

Fantastic gallery, free to enter, photography welcomed, really stunning work you can experience up close. No pushy sales or hustle for money. So much better than the outdoor wall gallery down by the river. Thank you.
