Museu do Azeite

This museum is located on a small hill above the ancient roman ruins of Bobadela (Oliveira do Hospital). On its front, the imposing Estrela Mountain, an icon of the Beirao territory.

This museum is unusual in taking the shape of its subject, the building is in the form of an olive branch, the various rooms being in the form of olive leaves and olives. The exhibition tells the story of olive production and its particular importance to Portugal. It is a colourful display with some interactive exhibits. The museum also has a café and a cheerful restaurant serving delicious food. There is a small shop selling olive products. The museum site affords splendid views over the valley once occupied and developed by the Romans. Well worth a visit.
