Banei Tokachi Obihiro Horse Race Track

Reviewed By Skakagrall - Beijing, China

This form of racing, in which horses have to haul weighted sledges up sand ramps while being repeatedly lashed, is cruel. It's not like horse racing in other countries.

Manabe Garden

Reviewed By LG_Kay - Singapore, Singapore

This garden was rather spacious, much bigger than I thought. It consisted of many sections, with different themes. We followed the recommended walking signs to cover the garden in about 1 hour. Though there were not many flowers, the general landscape was beautiful and serene. Nice to leisurely stroll and enjoyed the garden. Entrance fee is 800 yen per adult. Worthwhile to visit if you are in Obihiro.

Kofuku Station

Reviewed By DYA717 - Honolulu

Kofuku Station is a non-functioning old station. Kofuku in Japanese means happiness/contentment. Many Japanese used to go there just to buy the ticket just to keep it as a souvenir hoping the name will give happiness/contentment. People get married at that station. Businessmen and others post their business cards on the old waiting room walls and ceilings. There is a caretaker there who periodically removes old postings to create new wall space for newer visitors. They have toilet facilities and a small souvenir booth.

Kita no Yatai

Reviewed By Chua H - Malaysia

This street is awesome. There are rows of small shops which can accommodate between 8-10 pax inside each small shop. It is cosy and simple inside. You can get beer, vine or sake inside. Food is also served inside.
It is a great place to have a drink and relax.

Pleasant enough for a walk. This park also contains a good museum and an art gallery.

Aikoku Station

Aikoku means 'patriotism'. Some Japanese tourists go there for that reason. There's nothing much to see.

Tokachimura

Reviewed By 91MJJC19 - Singapore

We stopped by on our way back to Sapporo. Our tour guide arranged an enjoyable black pork (kurobuta) lunch here. The pork was a little fatty but the meat was flavourful and the accompanying onion salad was also very good. Thereafter, we proceeded to the horse shed nearby, where we got to see these enormous working horses that weighed over a tonne! For a small fee (can’t remember exactly) you can purchase carrot sticks to feed these horses. The village itself has some shops as well, but mostly for groceries and stuff. I think this place makes for a good lunch stop, other than that there isn’t much left to do.

Another example of a zoo where the animals do not have enough space. Cruel and embarassing.

Obihiro Shrine

With not much to do apart from the racing area, this is a nice little shrine that's easy to find in Obihiro. Easy to walk around and friendly staff. There early (around 10:00am) not many people around.

Obihiro Centennial City Museum

Reviewed By livesportsman
