Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary

In this unusual place of worship, mischievous simians throng among sacred temples and lush greenery.

Reviewed By Ravina89 - Ubud, Indonesia

It was calming to walk among the coolness of the forest and watch the monkeys who fearlessly approach visitors for food. Glad that they restrict this to bananas, but the clever chaps still go for anything shiny like water bottles and sunscreen tubes! If you observe all the rules of the sanctuary, the monkeys don't bother you at all.

And unjustifiably so....
The home of 1000 masks and 4000 puppets of different origins that are perfectly kept is astounding and well worth a visit. The Gardens surrounding the Houses are a treat to the eyes.
I urge you to make the detour for a visit when in Bali.

This was my favorite Bali experience! It was my 5th time to visit Ubud, and I'd never thought to do a biking tour! I sure am glad that I took the chance, and got away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and slowed down for a morning of slow riding along the roads and Neighborhoods surrounding Ubud. To feel the fresh morning air, to smell the fires and breakfasts cooking, to hear children's' laughter, and see authentic Balinese residents beginning their day, was to experience the REAL Bali!
Small groups (mine was 4 riders plus our great guide) was the reason I chose Bali 2000 over others. When I heard about the experience of others on another tour, I knew mine was better! It is locally owned, the bikes well maintained, and I was picked up right on time at my hotel and driven a few minutes to the company's owner's home where the equipment and crew were waiting.
On my tour, there was myself (62), and a father (40) and his two kids (10 and 17). We had a great time stopping at a local school to go inside, a temple, rice fields, and even a local swimming hole for a cool off dip! Any time we wanted to take a photo or ask questions or explore a site, our guide enthusiastically encouraged us. He was aware of fatigue, so kept a good pace and had plenty of water. (I also brought a protein bar)
On the way back, I felt my age... and a little worn out. I didn't want to slow down the group. When I mentioned it to our guide, he asked, "Do you want to ride in the car?"
Sure enough, there had been a car trailing us the whole three hours, driving on the road when we rode on narrow paths around rice fields, and keeping a good distance at other times, so that we had not even noticed it! With humble gratitude, I let them quickly take the wheel off my bike and store it in the back of the air conditioned SUV. I rode back, having a great conversation with the driver, yet still stopping and getting out to join my fellow cyclists when they stopped for a photo or other item of interest.
Listening to other tourists talk about their biking your experiences, I know I joined the BEST CYCLING TOUR in Ubud! Bali 2000 may be small and not as well advertised, but this is the real deal! Professional locals showing you the place they love... the place they call home. DO IT!
Bring: hat with visor, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, snack.

The pork ribs we had Australian and local and they were Devine.

Kris is, in a nutshell, fantastic.

From our arrival in Bali to the point he waved us off, Kris made us feel welcome, safe and took us to some of the best sights in Bali. He's a Fountain of information and doesn't mind sharing it, he's happy to suggest places or, as he did with us, chat about what you want to see and then make plans for how to do it.
One evening my friends and I ventured out to find a place to eat by ourselves and got a little lost - even though he didn't have to, Kris came and found us and then took us to an absolutely amazing restaurant. He greeted us every morning with a friendly smile and made sure every evening we were happy.

Kris is so great that even though we only had a few hours between coming back from Lombok and leaving Bali to come back home, we called him up and asked him to give us a quick tour of south Bali which was the perfect finish to our holiday.

If you are looking for a great driver or guide for your visit to Bali then you will not be disappointed with Kris.

This was more than just a cycling tour, but a wonderful experience with local guide Mus who not only takes you on out of the way farm/jungle/rice field cycling treks, but also welcomes you into his family home and gives fantastic insight into local culture. The tour ends with a delicious Balinese home cooked meal. I would highly recommend this tour for the real Bali experience with a genuinely lovely local guide. I’m not an experienced cyclist however I found this easy as it was mostly downhill.

Puseh Batuan Temple

Pura Puseh Batuan are shrine owned by Villagers batuan-village-home-of-balinese-paintings" Batuan Village district of Sukawati - Gianyar regency. The Temple is part of the concept of "Tri Kahyangan or Tri Murti" taught by Mpu Kuturan around the 10th century to the Balinese Hindu community at the time. Tri Kahyangan including 3 temples, the Pura Desa or Village Temple as a place to worship God Brahma, Pura Puseh to worship God Vishnu, and the Pura Dalem to worship Lord Shiva.Pura Desa and Pura Puseh Batuan were founded in the year 944 isaka (1020 AD). Nearly 1000 years old. Not all existing buildings were old buildings here, there are some that have undergone renovation. The Meru, Bale-bale, grand Gates and statues are showing us how thick the Balinese ornaments in this temple. At temple parking area, we could see a stage which a place use as a meeting hall and to practice any kind of Balinese dances as Gambuh dance, Pendet dance, etc. Then, in the middle yard of temple there is a long building / bale called the Bale Agung and Bale Kulkul (a gong mad by wood or bamboo). In this yard there is also a high entrance Balinese Gate called the Kori Agung, which is flanked by the many guardian statues shaped the giant sculpture. The function of Kori Agung is the door where the exit and entry for the gods symbolized by a small statue called Pratima. Next to the Kori Agung there are two small doors as a place of exit and entry of people into the temple's main yard. In the main yard of the temple there are some three story Meru and Bale Pengiyasan as a symbol of the temple of Besakih, there is also a building called Padmasana as a place of worship to Sang Hyang Widhi, the only one Bali Hindu's God. If we want to know the ancient sculptures in this temple, please come to the back yard, a building called Wantilan Purbakala as a place for all the ancient sculptures of this temple, here we can learn about the ancient sculptures and other types of ancient stone.

Lovely Hindu temple with fantastic sculptures and architecture, an absolute must if you like either touring temples or are into art. What I thought was particularly good is that there are many other temples in Bali some of which look equally good from the outside but only some are open to tourists - most are reserved for locals to protect them. This made me feel that my enjoyment of this site wasn't detrimentally affecting the cultural base of Bali
