Falconeria Locarno

The place is very big and the environment is exciting.
The combination of free raptors and people taking care of them in a safe context, allows you to perceive the stateliness of such birds.
Why do those birds stay there, without going away, being free? Because there are professional people who take care of those big birds and giving them love and receiving love from them, in the mutual respect.
We were two adults and three children but, in front of such a situation, we were five (5) children guided by our imagination, while the big birds were flying close to us (one of them, about 9 kilograms of weight, flying above my head so near me that it gave me a caress with the feathers of one of its wings).
Intense and deep emotions for younger and older people.
Thank you to the whole staff, who provided us all the right and needed informations, for understanding those birds and the relationships between the staff, taking care of the raptors, and the birds themselves.

We always stop here, when we are driving up the valley to go swim in the beautiful waters north of the Dam.
It is quite impressive, very high and beautiful view of the lake and the valey.
Funny thing is always to watch the bungee jumpers, but be aware they only start in the afternoon. One Jump is around CHF 250.-, at least it was this price when we asked mid of July 2017.
Would I drive up here only for the dam? No. But it s a nice stop if you are anyway driving up here.
However if you are a James Bond Fan this is of course a must see place ;-)

On our visit to Locarno we hoped to spend a little time in Piazza Grande but little did we know there was a summer music festival going on! Manage to grab a glimpse between all the staging and fencing, looks a nice square but not able to appreciate it this time.

Parco delle Camelie is a small garden on the shores of Lake Maggiore. It has a few flowering trees and plants (not only camellias) and small pond. It's a great place to spend an hour enjoying the nature and then the lake's beach is just nearby.

If you do not like the big museums, where thousands of people stand iin your way to look one of the thousands pictures, then this is your place. With 8 rooms only, this little museum still offers some amazing stuff. I'm sure, also for your taste there will be two or three pieces that make it worth the entrance ticket and the time to look around. A nice escape frome the tourist mess, with precious pieces of art to admire.

I will confess that pottery and glass do not feature highly amongst items which attract me to visit a museum but I have to admit that I found these displays of interest.
The building even more so. I found exploring the passages and rooms great fun and the display featuring the costumes and historic pictures of the town were well worth a visit.

Piazza e Chiesa S. Antonio

This beautiful square in the heart of the Old Town of Locarno got its name from the church S. Antonio. The entrance to the town's Art Museum Casa Rusca is located on the left-hand side of the church.

Reviewed By bLiselotte - Palatine, Illinois

This church boasts some good statuary and paintings. It has one really nice altar in a side chapel, which is labeled in Italian. The church is a bit dark as most of the lighting comes from some plain glass windows high up in the church. Nice place to drop in if walking by. The plaza in front has a nice Fountain and a couple of restaurants.
