Lipa Noi Beach

Reviewed By Jim P

If you want a beach almost to yourself, this could be it, although there are a number of quiet Beaches dotted all around Samui!
There are a number of resorts dotted along the beach, where one can stay or drop in for lunch or dinner. Sunset views can be good, since it faces west.
Water levels are low between April and September, as is the case of most Samui Beaches, therefore are not always great for swimming during that period unless you walk a long ways out!!
Sand is not bad, although can vary as it does on many Beaches.
You can enter the beach at various locations, some times just tracks headed in which seem to be fine to use, you don't need to enter through a resort.
Often one will see locals digging for clams as the tide heads out.
Nice if you don't want crowds!

There have been a few negative reviews of Topcats here and we would like to counter a few of the things that have been said.
1) The transfers are not a rip off - we consulted elsewhere on the price of a taxi before we rang to book and the price of the arranged transport from here was as cheap, if not cheaper than the estimate price of a normal taxi, and they wait around for you if you are slightly late finishing because you are still playing a fish.
2) You have to buy water/drinks/food on site and can't take you own - and?? What's wrong with that - lots of places have a similar rule (cinemas etc.) and you live with that. This is a business, there are staff to pay, fish to look after, tackle to buy/replace etc. - you can't expect someone to not make a profit. The prices are in no way outrageous, obviously they are more than the 7-11 but it means that you get cold drinks all day long for around 50p for a bottle of water?!?! And the burgers were amongst the juiciest we have had anywhere in the world - and we have had a few burgers :)
Right - to the review. Only M was fishing, paying for the 6 hour experience. I am an experienced fisherman in the UK, but my biggest fish before going here was 16lb for a carp and 10lb for a catfish. Well, no longer, for one at least. S was there to watch, take pictures and relax by the pool (and mop the sweat from M's brow while playing fish).
The guides know what they are doing (if you doubt that then watch their casting accuracy) and so take advantage of them - they want you to catch fish and enjoy yourself, and come back.
In the 6 hours of fishing I had 6 runs. I missed two but managed to hit into 4 others. One I lost after only a few minutes, the 45lb braid hooklink bitten through, to cries of "Pacu" from the guides - look it up - giant piranha style fish. One was a alligator gar, this didn't really fight much, well until it was in the net. Even the guides treat these with a large amount of caution, netting them from the bank before getting in the water. It wasn't a giant - probably somewhere between 15-20lbs, but the pictures look awesome with the toothy display. The other 2 were both Mekong cats - one of around 50lbs and the other closer to 60lbs. Boy do these guys pull!! That is 50-60lbs of pure muscle and they will quite probably take you all round the lake. I still have faint bruises over a week later from the rod butt!! Unfortunately no carp - but it just makes me want to go back!!
Ok - this isn't the cheapest thing you can do on the island, but you are getting around 6 hours entertainment for approx. £70, cheaper than going to the football. And where in the UK can you just rock up, be given all the appropriate gear, all the help you need and be almost guaranteed of getting your rod pulled, literally, and catch the fish of a lifetime, all within a few hours??
Tips. If you catch something you are going to want to get in the water to get your picture taken with it, so wear something suitable for getting in and out. There are no pictures taken with the fish on the bank, and rightly so, to avoid damage to the fish, so if you want a picture you have to get in.
These fish pull. I mean really pull. My shoulders were aching after the first cat. If you are not prepared for this then you could find yourself pulled in, so be prepared. This is not something for someone who is too small/young etc.
And there is also the rabbits and the hedgehogs to talk to - that almost guaranteed a 5* review without the fishing - just so you know who wrote this review :)
You can hire accommodation for the week - you don't know how tempting this is, maybe for the future, those big carp are still in there, along with the pacu and the red tails etc................
ps - it was a very, very hot day, even for Thailand when we were there, and the fish were still biting around the lake

Samui Disc Golf

Frisbee Golf is fun for all ages. 9 Holes laid out with chain baskets. There is a lot of shade provided by the many fruit trees.

Reviewed By RileyKennethHayes - Ko Samui, Thailand

This is a short, but very technical 9 hole course in the Mae Nam area of Koh Samui. You won't need much for distance drivers, but you will need to hit your line and shape your shot. The lines are very tight. The course doesn't favor one throwing style; will will need both backhands and forehands, and straight shots, big hyzers, and s-curves. The clubhouse is great with a variety of food and drink options, as well as discs for purchase or rental. Nigel runs a catering business so if you want to have a big group come for a party they can arrange that as well. Great group of people that show up for the weekly rounds. There also is some extra acreage where they set up some additional holes for tournaments.

We came here end of January as a group of 5 and really enjoyed our night. Claire has a wonderful personality and the food was exquisite. My only complaint is that I ate too much!
I would definitely book this if you are a foodie and want a different experience other than the same same thai restaurant.

Seawalking- Explore the under water life of Koh Samui in the most uniqe, fun and adventure way! Any age! No swiming needed! It's easy and fun!

This was a experience not to be missed. Arrived by taxi and was met by a very pleasant young man called Matthew I think. He was our instructor for our sea bed walk. He took us out on a boat to a Island were explained the full experience and safety instructions for our seabed walk. The thought of stepping of a boat into 3 metres of water with a heavy helmet with piped air was daunting but with this instructor you felt quite confident. The adventure really started once under the water. Being able to feed the fish and play games on the seabed. I still look at the images of us recorded when under water and still cannot believe I had done this. A memory for life.

Having read a few reviews on the Orion Retreat Centre I decided to give it a go on a very short notice. I have never done a detox before nor am I much of a yoga fan. I spent 5 days at the retreat and I can honestly say that I wished that I could have stayed a few more days even weeks there. Location couldn't be more appropriate, quiet, slightly remote but still you have all there you need. Being close to the ocean in quiet surroundings, amazing and caring staff, juices and raw food of high quality you have everything that you need to relax, recuperate and just enjoy the simplicity of life. Feel privileged to have spent my time there and will hopefully be back one day. Yoga instructors are very knowledgeable and give you the time to practice at your own pace. Reiki and Chakra balancing was very helpful. All staff were amazing and made you feel at home. Felt like a new person after these 5 days and will do my best to return one good day.

It's worth a visit if you're in the area but there really isn't much to see really. Some quirky statues and took some fab pics here but not really somewhere you'd spend hours of your day.
Stop if you're passing or in the area but I'd probably not recommend coming over from the other side of the island for it.

Marga Yoga

Situated on one of the quietest and most beautiful areas of Koh Samui, our yoga retreat centre is the ideal place for joining a yoga class, a wellness retreat or a yoga teacher training course. Vegetarian & vegan meals are offered at The Soul Food Cafe' inside our premises. Relaxation is a must with a fresh juice while lying on our deck chairs on the beautiful Taling Ngam Beach. Our yoga sala is situated on the beach front while healthy meals can be consumed at the cafe or at a shady area on the beach.

We have recently spent 7 days in a Chakra detox program at Marga Yoga where tranquility meets tropical in a stunning rustic yet charming setting.
The retreat we had covers areas of Yoga, Chakra Balancing and includes a soup and juices diet which surprisingly was amazing and made us felt full of energy through out the program. Simona, the propertior, the chef, the yoga teacher and a really good friend to us is really amazing and an expert in her fields. She offered really good yoga classes where the focus is on connecting the breathing and the asanas which forms part of meditation. Nowadays people seems to confuse Yoga with Aerobics which simply is not the case here. The chakra talks with insights on how to apply techniques in daily life is extremely useful and Simona is really passionate in providing a really personal experience for everyone who comes to Marga Yoga and any special requests are catered for.
The program also included massages by therapists who are very well trained and can alleviate pain and give you a great day.
There is also a cafe within the premises serving a selection of delicious vegan food, juices, soups, raw desserts and much more. Every palette is catered for here and you would definitely crave the food here.
Marga Yoga is definitely a destination for yoga, relaxing, retreats or simply if you want to sit back relax and have a good time while enjoying healthy dining options in Koh Samui. Can't wait to be back!

This was a "remarkable find" which most visitors never get a chance to see/experience!! The serene ambience blends in very harmoniously/well with this temple and many statues. A visit helps the visitor understand better the "calm attitudes/disposition" of many locals!!
A wonderful bonus is the adjacent very scenic and semi-deserted beach-- which is also good for walking and swimming!!
