One of the most extraordinary structures in the world. A must visit location when you come to Indonesia. Allow at least a half day to experience this site. Much easier to access compared to Borobudur but just as fascinating. These two sites should be on your bucket list together with Angkor Wat.

We got good seats for IDR200K.
Though despite being in the very first row,, we found the english commentary blurrish.
Despite the fact the show runs on lots of international tourists, they had no english subtitles at all. The whole time the story line displayed on a side screen was in malay. Being an Indian myself and I understand Malay, it was easy for me to follow the play.
However, I pity those who have little knowledge of the entire story and do not understand Indonesian language. One would be lost...
Very nice costumes and beautiful casts. Hanuman was a tad too thin.
We saw people sleeping off 10mins into the show.
We lefr after 1 hour during the interval as it was just too boring by then.
All in all, it could have been better if the commentaries were clearer and the storyline was in English as well. My husband who is a non-Malay speaker barely knew what was going on.

The swimming pool is MASSIVE, the fish are all sizes, shapes, and colors which makes for an amazing experience. Jump in the water and try to open your eyes the water will seem a bit clouded. If you have your own snorkeling gear bring it, if not the rental is cheap and you can use it for as long as you'd like. (Bring an I.D. card to leave with them or they won't lend the gear out!) Do not sit at a table in front of the food shops, they will charge you even if you buy from them. This was also the first tourist location I went to where they charged us for the toilets (even just to change out of our wet clothes!) Only the tourists I was with were charged, my local friends did not have to pay any of the extra fees. Bring a gopro or an underwater camera if you don't want to pay 50k for an hour of photography. The underwater scooters, bikes, T.V. sets, swing set and even a tent are worth it!

Although you may well be totally sick of temples by the time you visit Candi Sari, it's still worth making the effort. The temple is located in a peaceful setting without too much human traffic, and you can take your time to admire the stonework. Seems to be a fee of 2k IDR to enter.

There were 6 of us, we were deliberating whether to have our driver recommend us a massage place, or the hotel spa. We decided on the hotel's spa in the end, and we weren't disappointed.
Dini, the counter staff serving us, was polite, warm, friendly and professional. When our masseurs were not ready by the appointed time (and our appointed time was barely 10 minutes from the time we walked in), she decided to treat us to some steam room goodness on the house. She also kept checking in on us from time to time to ensure we were feeling comfortable and relaxed.
All that, at a price that will be considered very competitive where we are from. Much win here. Wouldn't call it budgeted, but extreme value for money

It's called umbul Manten.
Crystal clear natural Springs water.
Natural pools surrounded by giant trees.
Fresh air.

Seat near the natural pools. You may rent mat for only IDR. 5.000
Before you go swim, you may have local sweet & savory, e.g banana fritter, deep fried soybean cake with flour (called mendoan ), charcoal grilled sweet corn
After swim you can enjoy local cuisine, e.g sambal welut ( deep fried ell chili onion sambal served with steamed rice )
dont forget bring you waterproof camera or waterproof cellphone case.
It will be a paradise for the photographer.
Located in the north side of Klaten city.

It has just be reconstructed. It seems nth unless u look closely at the reliefs. It is all the animals said to be the incarnation of the buddha.

Sendang Sriningsih is a catholic shrine consisting of the stations of the cross positioned along a path and a winding staircase. The stations end at a cave with a statue of Mary.
We asked the driver we had booked for the day to bring us here and we're not disappointed. Located in a small village, we got out of the car at the car park and began the walk up the stairs. We were surrounded by forest and the only sounds were crickets, hens and birds. When we reached the shrine it was like the world had stood still. The quiet was so calming and the huge banyan trees provided a canopy of vines around the shrine. The place was deserted except for a few people taking care of the grounds. We sat at the shrine and lit candles and had the most blissful quiet time I have had in a long time (I live in Jakarta).
This is definitely somewhere I would visit again for the amazing setting and total tranquility I felt during the time we were there.

For Engineers and other people with passion for history of technology this is a must see place. This facility still produces sugar from sugar cane on a steam cycle. Parts of the machinery date back to 1893 and are still functioning. Main parts were made by Stork Hengelo in NL. The plant fully runs on biomass, 120 years of sustainable energy !
