The coastal jewel of Javea is bookended by rocky headlands and is a prime example of old world meets modern energy. The "old town" district is filled with remains of walls built to keep out pirates, as well as a 14th-century church. Numerous trail options as well as beautiful views from all around. It’s an easy hike up along the trail from marina to Cabo headland but there are choices as to difficulty and around the headland it’s reasonably flat - Montgo hill (mountain?) with its rock formations and caves is much more of a challenge at around 2500ft - where numerous access trails are on the inland side of the CV-736 Javea/Denia road. There is the usual “hiker beware” of dog mess which seems to litter everywhere you walk in Spain - really disgusting and spoils the general ambience of hiking as you have to pay more attention to the trail than the views!

The Ajuntamiento have now 'adopted' this route, so they have installed steps to avoid the slide down the rock face. However, be aware that the track is loose rubble all the way-except for a traverse that is sheer smooth rock polished by many feet. There are two routes to the caves themselves, the lower track is wet and dangerous with choppy water ( there is no shoreline) the upper route is a descent down the rock face. We set out at 10, it was sweltering. On the way back there were hordes carrying deck chairs, cold boxes etc etc....madness, there is no beach here, and really nothing to do other than wander round the caves that are of limited interest. Add to this the impossibility of parking ( and if you find a spot you will be boxed in), give it a body swerve.

The park has numerous hiking trails and a lot are fairly easy going. You can of course attempt to climb Montgo mountain but a much shorter and easier route is the trail leading up from Javea port area to the lighthouse headland, from where you can look across to Ibiza island. If hiking on the far side of the Denia/Javea road then you’ll get great views inland and along the coast in both directions, although you will need to keep an eye open for frequent piles of dog mesh:-( Regardless of your fitness level I strongly suggest wearing appropriate footwear and taking water.

We were able to see Ibiza from this headland - our host had only managed this twice previously during 35 years residence!
Worth trekking or driving. The commanding view over the bay lets you see all the other places you might visit.
Seabirds effortless gliding was fascinating to watch.

My wife and I wanted to add some dives to our recently obtained PADI Open Water qualification. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, English spoken and our Instructor Borja was fantastic, very reassuring. Their dive boat is right at hand and we had two fantastic dives off the coast of Javea. We would have no issue in recommending this dive school and will certainly come back again. Many thanks to everyone there.

Visited on a blustery late December day between Christmas and New Year - surprised to see how busy it was and even parking wasn’t that easy. The beach was empty and in fact there weren’t many walking the Promenade - everyone was in the numerous restaurants lining it! The Promenade itself is clean, wide and well maintained - no doubt very pleasant for an evening stroll. There was even a large decorated Christmas tree half way along.

Arenal Beach is perfect for traditional sea and sand holiday. The sand is flat and easy to dig and the sea is shallow so safe for youngsters. There are plenty of good cafes and restaurants for all budgets along the Promenade serving food almost 24/7.
A great variety of souvenir shops too.

The drive here is quite scenic as you pass through the many housing developments - don’t forget to stop off at the overview of Mirador Cuz del Portixol which is about half way along the road out of Javea. There’s not much parking but it was fine when we visited late December. There’s a couple of restaurants (not open when we visited) - both of which have nice balcony views from what I could see. It’s a short walk over slightly rocky terrain to reach the main viewing area but there’s a remembrance seat there if you need to sit down. The lighthouse is closed to the public so don’t make a specific visit if that’s what you want to see but there are good views towards Cumbre del Sol from one side and individual villas and bay on the other (you definitely can’t see Javea as some of the reviewers state - they’ve confused this Cabo with that of San Antonio on the headland above town). You can take a turning (Ctra. de la Granadella) which takes you down a winding road to the pretty cove and beach of Playa Granadella, which in itself is worth a visit.

We only came here for lunch, so didn't spend any time on the beach. Looked good though, with crystal clear water. We came here in October. In the height of summer it's likely to be quite busy with limited parking. There is another small parking area up the road a bit. A lovely place to visit.

What a surprise, a fantastic piece of modern architecture dedicated to the fishermen of the town.
The inside is a little 'Gaudi' but of 'brutal' concrete which is amazing. The railings with 'fishes' and the landscaping of palm trees with the 'town' streets and building check by jowl makes walking around an experience not to be missed.
The simple interior of the church is in stark contrast to many in Spain and looks like the hull of an upturned fishing boat with little decoration, a relief compared with many Spanish Churches.
