Hylands Park

Reviewed By Grom65 - Chelmsford, United Kingdom

I have visited the hylands estate many times over the last five years, always enjoy it then enjoy a lovely cup of tea and some food in the stable block area. This time I walked and walked out! Didn’t even bother to sit down, other people were moaning at the food quality and service, apparently there has been a change of contract. Well let’s have whoever used to run it back please. If I could leave less than a one rating I would, I can’t even be bothered to talk about the quality of the hot food on display, alas to say the jacket potatoes looked about a week old.
Come on Council sort this out, change the hylands Park management, change the contractor, and let’s get the catering back where it used to be please.

I really enjoyed the cheese making course (with artisan bread). It was pitched just right with the right balance of theory and practical. I also appreciated receiving the recipes by email afterwards. I note a number of negative reviews however i didn’t experience any issues. I do intend to return to this cookery school.

The Kings Head

Visited on the off chance with 3 friends.
I ordered the Steak & Chips. It came with cherry tomatoes and mushrooms. The steak was great quality and cooked perfectly. The triple cooked chips were amazing and the tomatoes and mushrooms were also lovely.
Two of my friends ordered Fish & Chips which came with crushed peas and it was really lovely. Amazingly light batter. My other friend had a Hamburger which was again awesome.... As a foodie I made sure I tried some! The waitress told us all food was fresh and made onsite by the chef and it showed.
And to top it off the prices were very reasonable. Definitely going back.....

We have visited Hyde Hall a couple of times before but not in recent years. I was surprised by the high entrance fee of £11.50 for one adult and if you intend to make subsequent visits either to Hyde Hall or other RHS Gardens consider an annual subscription. The Gardens and grounds have evolved considerably since our last visit and the visitors centre is excellent and the restaurant currently being constructed will be a marvellous addition when complete. A lovely place to spend a couple of hours.

A wonderful place to experience BMX, Trials or woodland led bike rides. Radical bikes is set in lovely rural countryside, run by friendly staff. It's like one big happy family. All ages catered for and nothing is too much trouble for the staff.
You get a good cup of tea or coffee and some sweets snacks and energy drinks are available to buy. There is also a well stocked parts shop...if they don't have what you want in stock, they will order it for you in record time. As a middle aged novice cyclist I am really enjoying 'off roading ' through the woods on the woodland rides. A great experience all round Thank you!!
