Nothing to see here folks, just miles of clean fluffy sand and a very rough, murky sea. If you like that sort of thing, fine. I prefer small pebble filled coves with Crystal clear water, like you get in the Greek Islands. Ok,but no cigar.

We first visted Alagoa in 1990, the beach is still very recognisable. We walked up from Manta Rota recently - a nice walk. The beach is serviced and is a nice place for families etc. We didn't get as far as checking out the restaurants but we were tempted. These expansive Beaches are amongst the best in the Algarve.

Praia do Barril

Reviewed By Sc0ttishbill - Faro, Portugal

The beach is beautiful and very clean. I usually walk, but it is possible to go out on the little train which owes its existence to the tuna fishery of bygone days. Other reviewers have referred to the "anchor cemetery". This also is a relic of the times when tuna were caught and landed here and there is a museum within the buildings behind the beach which explains the network of nets, anchored to the sea floor, into which the fish were herded. It is well worth a visit. I find the restaurants less worthy of praise. You are a captive clientele. Quality is mediocre at best and prices are high.

Tavira Island

Reviewed By Tony W - Tavira, Portugal

This is a lovely family beach, accessed by Ferry from either Tavira town or Quatrain Aquas.
In the height of the season it is, understandably very busy. So early arrival is advised.
Great range of restaurants and bars for most tastes, but mainly fish.
Be sure not to miss Marinho Bolinas who sells fresh donuts on the beach. A real character and much loved by the locals and those visitors who know him!
