Monte da Ravasqueira

Monte da Ravasqueira has been linked to the José de Mello family for several generations. Located in the municipality of Arraiolos, about an hour's drive from Lisbon, the estate occupies a vast area of typical Alentejan landscape. The excellent geological conditions and the climate are well suited to the production of some of the best wine that the Alentejo has to offer. A great deal has been invested in planting vines and also in modern winemaking equipment and in meteorological and plant-health facilities. Investment at Monte da Ravasqueira has also been directed at the infrastructures of an oenotourism project.Monte da Ravasqueira is committed to the production of distinctive quality wines, while it is also engaged in a number or other activities involving the production of cork, olive oil and honey, as well as rearing fine cattle and fattening of black pig from Alentejo. Vineyard Monte da Ravasqueira offers a wide variety of wines resulting from 29 plots of vines. Carriage Driving Museum As part of its oenotourism project, Monte da Ravasqueira has a large private collection of harnesses and carriages of various eras and styles. The Carriage Driving Museum is also a way of recalling the fact that the 1996 World Carriage Driving Championship was won by Félix Brasseur, with Falcão, Fogoso, Favorito and Fraque, Lusitanian thoroughbreds from the stud farm that existed for many years on Monte da Ravasqueira. Winery Inspired on California's Napa Valley, Monte da Ravasqueira's winery is provided with the latest technology. It is run entirely using software developed in-house at Monte da Ravasqueira. There are also meeting rooms and wine-tasting facilities. Oenoturism Monte da Ravasqueira organises various programs of visits and wine courses, featuring a dining area, serving the best regional cuisine. It also has several rooms, ideal for meetings and corporate events.

When you eventually find it, it gives you a lot for €1 entry.
Quite a bit of history and antique rugs.
Theres even a lady making an actual rug; she takes time out to teach you how to make it, and gives you a little free starter pack which is a nice touch.

City Center

A pretty and somewhat quaint small town famous for the production of carpets and tapestries. There is a centre featuring this manufacturing history of the town (which I didn't visit) and numerous small shops specialising in their sale.
The town square is a peaceful traffic-free oasis with a water feature and as elsewhere in the town, some fabulous Jacaranda trees which were in full bloom at the time of my visit.
The square is dominated by the City Hall where you should try to get permission to visit the Council Chamber on the first floor where the walls are covered by some excellent paintings depicting the history of the town and surrounding area

Fonte da Pedra / Fonte dos Almocreves em Arraiolos
Another touristic Monument in Arraiolos.
But to see this Fountain you have to drive outside the city and after a few km you will have the Fountain on right hand side of the road.
Be careful when park the car on the side of the road. It is a Hugh Fountain in white, and also has not only the part on the street, there is also a back part on it.
This Fountain has been constructed in the 18th century and on the end of the 20th century they have put an iron roof on the Fountain.
Worthwhile to have a stop and to take some pictures.

You will find the “Igreja do Salvador” o the inside of the “Castle of Arraiolos”.
Compared to the castle the church is better conserved, there is only one negative point and this is that the church is always closed. Thera are allot of such locations who are abandoned or closed for public, they should open this location for tourist. Perhaps it is open only on special events. But anyhow it is part of the castle and all together a very nice location who is giving you stunning views over the surrounding area, this location in summer is also ok for having a picnic.

A typical church with the architecture following the Portuguese religion.
Nothing very special but a place to visit as it is a part of the historical centre of the village.
