Leprechaun and Fairy Underground Cavern

The tour includes 15 minutes of storytelling and an introduction to how the last leprechauns of Ireland became a protected species by the E.U..This is done in the story room across from the cavern at Shalom B.B.You may park there. This is followed by a visit below the ground where leprechauns and fairies converge in the morning as the sun rises. The visit is predominately indoors and definately great for a rainy day. It is not really suitable for children under 5 or who have not lost a tooth. If children are crying or disruptive, parents may be asked to leave with them till quiet, to allow other attendees to enjoy the whole experience. Adults should enjoy it at any age!

While the leprechaun cavern is closed due to COVID-19, it is still a lovely family stroll. There are nice monuments in the garden which provide lovely little photo opps with the kids. I’d say it’s a lovely spot when it’s fully functioning. I’ll definitely be heading back the next time I’m in Carlingford.

Boyne Boats Adventure

Paddle the Route Travelled by Stone Age Farmers with a Legendary Boat Builder Boyne River | Adventure | Nature | Mythology | Battle of the Boyne | Artisan Food | Game of Thrones According to ancient legend, the Boyne River was created by the Celtic queen and goddess Boann who symbolises water, fertility, and inspiration. The legend gives an insight into the serene beauty of this ancient river that has lured visitors ever since Stone Age farmers settled in the Boyne Valley. More than 6,000 years ago, these farmers created the burial tombs of Brú Na Bóinne along the Boyne River bend. Through Boyne Boats, the mythology of the past brings us to the mythology of the present because Ross Kenny (founder of Boyne Boats) is a well-known boat builder who featured in and supplied the boats for the hugely successful Game of Thrones series. In fact, the skilfully hand-crafted, traditional Irish currachs used by Ross in Game of Thrones are used by Ross in the Boyne Boats experience too.

Alison & Brian – Saturday 3rd August 2019 Carlingford Brewery, The Old Mill Back in early 2018 my sister tagged me in a post on Twitter from Lovin Dublin that said, “You can now get married in a rustic brewery on the Cooley Peninsula and it’s SO FAB” and at this point we hadn’t visited one wedding venue, The Old Mill was the first on our hit list. We made a viewing appointment with Des and set out on the road to Carlingford. Everything about The Old Mill is magical, from the moment you arrive you get a sense of being somewhere very special, soaked in history and completely unique. All it took was that one visit and we had fallen in love. We knew instantly this is where we wanted to celebrate our marriage. If, like us, you are not a fan of lavish, OTT and lots of white wedding venues then you will love the warm and rustic décor of the Old Mill. The location is private, and the land is just stunning, especially when the sun is shining. Words cannot describe the fantastic team who run The Old Mill, but we will try because it is the least we can do to thank them for everything. Des (Owner of Carlingford Brewing Company) is passionate, energetic and a complete joy to be around. Dearbhaile, wedding co-ordinator extraordinaire, is everything a laid-back bride and groom need in their lives, trust me she is just wonderful. The rest of the team at The Old Mill could not do enough for us on the day, I never, not once, saw the bottom of an empty glass of wine in my hand. The Old Mill was everything we hoped for and more, I wouldn’t change a thing.

We attended Escape HQ to take part in Groom on the Loose for my sister's Hen and it was a huge success. From the first time I got in contact, David and the team were fantastic and went above and beyond to help with our whole trip, they also created a fun atmosphere with lots of attention to detail. We had an absolute ball and Escape HQ was definitely the highlight of the weekend, it suited all ages. If anybody is thinking of going to Carlingford with a group of friends or a hen/stag I'd definitely recommend paying a trip here. Not only is everything taken care of for you it's excellent value to boot.

This wonderful monastic site with extensive and interesting ruins is perfect for a self-guided tour given the high quality of the sign-boards. Hearing the chant emmanating from the ruins was quite a magical experience. There are no guided tours at the moment because of Covid 19 but we met with Louis who was giving out work-sheets to families - he was very helpful, invited our questions and was very knowledgeable. This is a great OPW site which is well worth a visit. It is very suitable for families, a great place for a picnic or family walk amid the well-kept and wonderfully spacious grounds.

There are many examples here of Celtic art on the gravestones and crosses here, including the Muiredach's High Cross and several smaller crosses. The docent at the main entry point was amazing!! full of history, stories and just in general a lovely man that we stayed to talk to for about a half hour about more than just the site. Such an unexpected delight.

This centre is simply superb. Their staff and management is outstanding, and they brought joy and learning to my students. I had brought groups to other camps in Ireland before and was always happy. From the website I had expected much the same. Instead, I found it in a different class. The number of different activities is enormous. In two weeks we could not get everything done. The quality of Skypark (better than Treetop in the Bronx Zoo!), the Laser Combat games, Ziptopia and so many water activities was astonishing. Basically, if we wanted to do ANYTHING, they got it done. Their planning was relaxed and flexible and we were regularly asked what we would prefer. Food was very good and plenty of it. Another big difference was that "evening activities" were just as excellent. And hugely varied. The town itself is gorgeous. Small and intimate, but colourful and full of life. Genuine Irish people. Still. When next I have a group we will certainly be going to Carlingford. Conor Sheedy, Napoli Italy 24 July 2019
