10 Things to do Adventurous in Hamburg That You Shouldn't Miss

July 26, 2021 Mollie Coke

Second only to Berlin in size and population, the city of Hamburg is home to one of the biggest harbors in Europe. A stroll along its many waterways and canals illustrates why it has been called the "Venice of the North." Don't miss a trip to the local fish market (Fischmarkt), the Merchants District (marked by its imposing red-brick architecture), a fine dining experience along the river or a night out in the university quarter. And did we mention the Reeperbahn (red light district)? It's quite famous for its… red lights.

Dialog in the Dark

Dialog im Dunkeln is an experiential exhibition in complete darkness, which is not possible to explore on your own. Your blind host will guide you through the completely darkened exhibition in a small group of no more than 8 people. Equipped with a blind cane, you discover the world that we usually take for granted in a completely new way. You hear, feel and find your bearings in various non-visual situations of daily life; going for a walk in the park, crossing a busy city-street, going on a boat trip as well as visiting our Dark Bar. This is an experience which will stay alive in your memory long after your visit. Blind and visually-impaired guides are there to ensure your well-being at every step through this unfamiliar landscape. The last stop on our tour is at the Dark Bar, where you can talk about your experience over a drink with our guides, who are happy to answer all the questions which naturally arise during the tour.

Took the 90 minute tour which was absolutely worth it with my 3 kids (14, 16, 18) who also absolutely enjoyed it. Besides the experience to try to orient yourself in pitch darkness the tour provides insight into the obstacles of blind people. You can ask any questions and will receive valid answers. Next stop will be dialogue in silence.

Went with a group of friends while visiting Hamburg. What a fun time. Especially fun way to spend a rainy afternoon! We were in the Illuminati Room trying to solve the mystery of the "Pope killers"! Our game master, Elwira, gave great clues and humorous encouragement. It wouldn't have been as fun without her! PS - go to the bathroom before the door gets locked - 'cause you're not "breaking out" without solving the mystery!

I was there twice, once playing the Hoffman's Formula and once playing Hoffman's Kidnapping. The location is convenient, the riddles are well designed, the game masters are focused and deliver reasonable hints without taking over the fun and the stories are involving as well. Nadja was our host and she was very attentive. In addition to that, since I don't speak German, I was happy to find out that the games are also available in English. Totally worth it.

We attended as a group of 9 and took over the “Stole a million” rooms. Was great to do a head to head, and even better they came in English. The two hosts were amazing, funny and mad it all really easy to get acquainted with what was ahead. Inside the room the puzzles were great and flowed really well, it didn’t require any illogical steps like some rooms. The only minor criticism would be that the hints maybe came a little too quickly when we slowed down a little, meaning we completed the room in 48 minutes. Great variation of puzzles in the room, really well thought out! Would 100% recommend!

I’ve done many escape rooms and the “Der Fluch des Neptun” was easily one of the best. We played in English and that was no problem. The room is so clever that to explain it would give away many of its secrets, but the fact you are on a ship doing the room only adds to the atmosphere and realism. I would highly recommend. Also, included in the ticket price is entrance to the Museum ship itself, so after our room we were able to have a very leisurely walk around the magnificent ship too. Lovely team. Excellent.

Fluchtweg Hamburg is a place where escape room enthusiasts are truly welcome. The love, thought and detail that goes into the construction of the games and riddles is very remarkable. We love how the gamemasters always make you feel welcome, are super funny and entertaining. Every time we play a room there we are so happy that we would like to come again immediately :D We played the new room "Das verfluchte Amulett" and loved the way the puzzles were fitting to the theme and the overall atmosphere of the game was fitting as well. But it doesn't stop there, the introduction is also matched with the game you will play. It is really all this detail that makes this place so fun to play at. As experienced players, we can highly recommend it!

Quite honestly the most in-depth and exciting escape room I’ve done to date. Was with a group of 5 people in the Ernie Hudson room (the zoo one.) We had such a fun time and I would love to come back and do the other rooms. Our game master Pelle was super friendly and informative and helped us even in English. 10/10 would recommend. Also good for English speakers! Not just German.

I just played their online version of 'Operation Jackpot' and was genuinely so impressed. I've done a lot of real-life Escape Rooms and love them, but this was a really good alternative for during lockdown. The tasks were tricky but really clever. The graphics / videos / imagery were all high standard and. My friends and I had a great time figuring them out. We did have to cheat with the helpful pdf once or twice! Great value, great fun, and with Hamburg on my list for when the world opens up again, I'll be keeping my eye out for the real thing
