10 Spas & Wellness in Bay Street Corridor That You Shouldn't Miss

September 10, 2021 Vergie Nakamoto

We've heard Toronto described as "New York City run by the Swiss," and it's true—you can find world-class theater, shopping and restaurants here, but the sidewalks are clean and the people are friendly. The best place to start is literally at the top—the CN Tower, the tallest freestanding structure in the Western Hemisphere.

My sister told me she was going to a Spa as a treat to herself and I thought I would tag along. Lately I have had arthritis in my hip and Toronto weather certainly has not helped. I looked up the Elmwood Spa and thought we should give it a try. It was heavenly! The parking was right next door at the underground Chelsea Hotel- a piece of cake. The reception was lovely. You literally sign in on an iPad and let them know about any health issues you might have. We were given an itinerary of our 1/2 day. There are many personnel there that help direct you to the right places. You are given a locker, robe, flip flops. We first went to the warm swimming pool , whirlpool and sauna. We then relaxed and had the choice of getting some food or drink at the Juice bar. I then proceeded to the 4th flr to get a wonderful Swedish massage. I had never had one but this is something I could get used to. 50 minutes of pure bliss with my massage therapist Keisha. Then I met up with my sister in our robes for an amazing and heathy lunch at the Terrace Restaurant where Mitchell our waiter took great care of us explaining the menu and always refilling my water. The lunch was lovely. We shared 2 specials. Blackened Salmon and Veggie quinoa. I am gluten free and lactose and for once could even get dessert. A coconut pudding with fresh fruits.Delicious. I am not finished. Then we got facials. Nicole made my face look flawless. She was so personable and even suggested different products I could use. After showering we checked out. This was an incredible experience. I would do it again in a heart beat! Thank you Elmwood Spa.

This is my go to spa for when I need a total re-set. I have only ever encountered thoughtful, personalized service. The spa is clean, quiet and relaxing. Exactly what you need when you live in downtown Toronto! I have attended the spa numerous times during the Covid-19 pandemic, and have always felt that the spa was a safe experience. I'm plus sized, and they have the comfiest robes! I used to feel nervous to go to a spa, never knowing if the robe they gave me would fit, but they handled my worries and made me feel so welcome and cared for. Thank you and hope to see you when you are able to re-open!
