The present premises of the cathedral was built around 1913 – 1914 to replace the old one, dating back to XVIII and consecrated in honour of the Blessed Virgin on 1 April 1732 by Krasovsky priest. In 1814, the cathedral was enlarged, and choirs for singing were added. In 1826, a new 4-tiered iconostasis was created for the temple and in 1861 a 18-meter bell tower was added to the temple, along with more premises for clergy. In 1865, supported by noble Grokholsky family, the first in town parish school was built by the Nativity Cathedral. The church at that time consisted of 1,610 parishioners and possessed own estate and land. With time, the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin was no longer able to meet the needs of the expanded parish, so in the beginning of XX century it was decided to built new larger stone Cathedral to replace the old one.

Vinnytsia Water Tower

Reviewed By Kyle_from_Colorado - Denver, United States

I visited the Vinnytsia water tower near its closing time on Friday night in December. The staff were very friendly about letting me take a quick look even though I arrived late. The museum is a tribute to war veterans of various conflicts and it has a lot of interesting artifacts to bring the stories to life. Be ready for stairs though! Even if you can only see the outside, this is a piece of Vinnytsia’s history that is visually striking and worth your time.

Captain Chetkov Mansion

The residential house-mansion for retired artillery captain Chetkov was built in 1910 on the steep descent of Pushkinska street, the then elite quarter of Vinnytsya clerisy. A while before that Captain Chetkov has inherited another manor and quite a sum of money that enabled him to hire professor of Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute Vasyl Lystovnychiy to design his mansion in Vinnytsya. Chetkov’s house became the only project by Lystovnychiy ever implemented in stone. In comparative prices, the construction of Chetkov’s mansion still remains the most expensive residential construction in the history of Vinnytsya. Chetkov’s mansion was built in the then top trendy Art Nouveau style; with different levels and abundant architectural decorations of floral motives, supplemented with a fence down Pushkinska Street, in the same style. Immediately after construction, Chetkov’s mansion has become the most popular Vinnystya image of early XX century: it was depicted in magazines, on post cards and stamps, and souveniers. For a very long time Chetkov’s mansion hosted Vinnytsya central maternity clinic. Since 70s of XX and up to the beginning of XXI century, there was a clinic for kids. After its capital reconstruction ending in 2000, it has been occupied by the Vinnytsya municipal department of architecture and urban construction. Presently the mansion is protected by the state and is included into the list of historic and architectural entities that can not be privatised.
