Hokkaido (北海道, Hokkaidō, literally "Northern Sea Circuit") (Japanese: [hokkaꜜidoː] ( listen)), formerly known as Ezo, Yezo, Yeso, or Yesso, is the second largest island of Japan, and the largest and northernmost prefecture. The Tsugaru Strait separates Hokkaido from Honshu. The two islands are connected by the undersea railway Seikan Tunnel. Very nice observatory to appreciate the vast cityscape of Sapporo. Highly recommended to check the weather forecast to find out the sunset times during your trip, and go up around 20 to 30 minutes before sunset, so you can enjoy both the day view and night view on the same trip.

The view from Mt Okura Observatory is stunning, at night you can see the city lights spread out in front of you. The cable car was enjoyable. By the way, if you take the bus to the Observatory, make sure you know the time of the return bus, as taxis may be scarce.

With jpy100 we bought a little stamp booklet for our kids to do tracking and collecting stamps. A well organised museum with interesting demonstration with those wax figures. They look so real in the dim lights! And dont forget to take the prisoner photo sticker, and try the prisoner meal set.

This is a beautiful place for hiking. There are many steps and in places, the trail is quite steep. If you are afraid of heights, you might not want to visit this area. But, this is a beautiful place in Japan. The trail is at the top of high hills and in most places it is only about 2 to3 feet wide. We walked all the way to the end and were treated to some amazing views of the peninsula and the ocean. There is a little place to eat and a gift shop at the beginning of the hike, near the parking lot. There is an unmanned lighthouse at the end but it wasn't open the day we were there.

Absolutely stunning! This "rainbow field" is definitely our favourite one in the area. The parking fee is waived if you purchase the food at the restaurant on the second floor of the entrance building. Very fair and reasonable. The food was good too. Highly recommended and must visit!

This is a very lively area at night. Lots of people moving around. The neon lights on the buildings were fascinating. You simple feel the energy of the city here.

and absolutely loved it! I also enjoyed that there were very few people and the walk to the shinsa was through a nice park with tons of trees. Easy walking distance from the subway station as well.
