The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside. Hanoi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or "ascending dragon," but it hasn't forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest. Lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city, which is easily explored by taxi.

Warmly welcome to Ha Noi - the commercial, political, cultural heart witnessing the grandiose activities of the country. Throughout the thousand year history, marked by destruction, wars and natural calamities, Ha Noi still preserves the Old Quarter and over 600 pagodas and temples. We also find out the diversity of 54 ethnic groups in Viet Nam Ethnology Museum, which is both a research centre

Vietnamese heritage preservation. Top Vietnamese cultural identical tour to the past within a few hours.
We have made a round trip trough Asia and saw a lot. This place is amazing and so beautiful and tasteful with a lot of art statues, historical building, bridge, beautiful trees surrounded by mountains in the mist. After the touristic old center of Hanoi this was defenately what we needed to get a better idea of Vietnam’s culture. We went to the HD Hotel nearby and then the host arranged a taxi for us (return). We went there for one hour and it was an amazing experience. Also the ride to the palace was better since it gives a better picture of Vietnam than all hose tourist destinations. Cash entrance only

The largest mosaic in the world entrances visitors for over 10 years along Au Co, the dyke road wall. Artists from many nations and organizations completed this majestic celebration of Hanoi's 1000 year anniversary under the leadership of artist Thu Thuy, certainly one of the finest public artists in the world.

The Hoan Kiem Lake Walking Street is actually a series of streets around and close to Hoan Kiem Lake that officially close to traffic every weekend thus making them walking Streets. They include Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Hang Khay Street, Trang Tien Street, Le Thach Street and Tran Nguyen Han Street amongst others, that provide a traffic free walk way all around the lake and the adjacent Ly Thai To Park as well as some of the popular shopping streets that lead down to the lake. As you can imagine this is a popular walkway with both locals and tourists at the weekend and can get quite busy, especially at the top end of the lake and on the east side close to Ly Thai To Park which attract a lot of street food vendors and hawkers selling all manor of Vietnamese souvenirs. If you are lucky you might also catch some events taking place and the walking street is regularly used as the starting and ending point for any fun runs or professional road running races that take place in Hanoi , as it was for the Sunday we visited when a 10Km fun run was being held. If you want to do a complete circumference of the lake then it will take about 30 minutes walking time. But allow longer for distractions and it took us 2 1/2 hours to get round, but then that did include a beer in one of the roof top bars overlooking the lake at the North end.

I love the Hien Boutique at 40 Hang Gai Street. Great service and great prices that match quality of fabric and tailoring. I love my linen pants and want to buy another pair!

**This place is temporarily closed** Every year many thousands of respectful citizens and tourists visit the final resting place of the country’s most notable historic figure.
Once arriving at the mausoleum site and finding the end of the queue,we thought it was going to be a long wait. Surprisingly,we moved quite rapidly along and in no time at all were approaching the very impressive mausoleum. Everything is very orderly under the watchful eye of immaculate soldiers in white uniforms and to see how seriously they take their responsibility has to be admired. Once inside the building, there is no stopping and passing by the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh is over so quickly although no visit to Vietnam would be complete without seeing this iconic place. Outside, the grounds are quite pleasant and the One Pillar Pagoda is worth seeing . An altogether interesting place to visit when in Hanoi. Iain and Carol Patterson. Newcastle upon Tyne.

While visiting "Ba Dinh Square" at Hanoi's "Old Quarter", a romantic beautiful bright yellow building, with a red tiled roof, will certainly catch your attention! This is the official "Presidential Palace" of the "Socialist Republic of Vietnam". The iconic and historical construction was built by the French colonial authorities in 1900, as the official palace of the "Governor-General of Indochina". Here, President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked most of his revolutionary life. Therefore, the palace was appointed as a Vietnam's heritage site. It is not internally opened for visitors and only its manicured lush gardens can be accessed. It is part of the "Ho Chi Minh's Complex" and its visit can be easily combined with nearby attractions as "Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum", "Ho Chi Minh Stiil House" and "Ho Chi Minh Museum". Enjoy!
