Yunnan is a province of the People's Republic of China, located in the far southwest of the country. We were here for Chinese New Year eve and the atmosphere was lovely, with lots of people on the streets setting off firecrackers, children playing and fireworks. I've been to many ancient towns in China, and this was one of my favourites. There are some really quaint bars, restaurants and souvenir shops, and lovely mountain views. Would recommend staying a night here, as the atmosphere in the evening is excellent. There are plenty of hotels/hostels inside the town. Entry is free. The village is located in between Lijiang and Dali. You may wish to combine with a trip to Shibaoshan (石宝山), just 14km away. Name in Chinese: 沙溪古镇

It's a beautiful valley down the Yulong Snow mountain. There are parts of the water which are in rich turquoise color.

I went to China only for two nights stay and visited UNESCO site of stone forest in Shiling,Kunming. The facilities and arrangements for tourists are praiseworthy. As a foreigner we took an english spoken guide that helped us a lot. Weather was awesome. The place is fine and eligible for taking kids or elderly people provided you may carry strollers or wheelchairs on your own.

Near to old town, approximately 15 mins drive. Car chartered rmb50 for return trip. Entrance fee (Incl 2 cable cars rmb160), it took approximately 40mins to reach the summit. Some people get altitude sickness, must buy oxygen in advance, if the car organised by accomodation, they will provide oxygen (about rmb30), it is refundable if unused the oxygen. The view is spectacular, just look the photo, a must if visit shangrila.
