10 Resorts in Malaysia: Best hotel deals for 2023

May 3, 2023 Yuk Petri

Malaysia is a beautifully complex vacation destination, a land where ancient rainforests give way to multicultural city life. Capital city Kuala Lumpur is visually defined by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, while in charming Melaka the vibe is more quaint and historical. Many of the country’s national parks offer opportunities for fantastic whitewater rafting, and the exclusive Sipadan dive site (off the east coast of Borneo) is among the best in the world.

Be ushered into a world of ethnic charm and tropical tranquility at this award-winning resort!

Became lower in standard now.

Reviewed By Salocin D

I have last came here back in 2008 when it was renamed Meritus. it was good and almost a 5 star standard hotel of that era. The breakfast spread was great and everything was there. However visiting it recently, the main building is under renovation and basically the function halls have been converted into shops. Not sure what is going on under new ownership that has changed the name back to the original. The breakfast spread has also become pretty standard continental fare. The buggy service is too slow until we could find a shortcut to walk to the reception building across the street. The rooms have also gone a bit lower in standard with no more bathrobe. However there are adequate towels and decent enough still. Unusually the wardrobe and luggage rack are integrated into the bathroom and the bathroom can be seen from the outside front window. So be sure to use the blackout curtains. Conveniently there is a water pipe just outside the room to wash off any sand or dirt before entering. In-room meals have relegated to basically some kind of KFC menu. On the whole, the resort is undergoing a huge transition and very not sure what will happen to this historic place.

So,I did a 3 days 2 night stay at Shangri la Rasa Sayang..It was a family gathering. We walked in for breakfast on 5/6/22 at 7.45 in the morning looking for a long table and somewhere near the buffet area so the elder ones need not walk too far to grt to the buffet area.My eyes caught a table which was empty, and i was gonna sit there as it fitted my family well but it was labelled occupied with no one sitting on it.So i asked the usherer n she told me it is occupied, but i told her no one is sitting there..and she told me again in raised voice, it is occupied!About half an hr after we were seated at a middle table where it was quite humid n my daughter even got a mosquito bite, a family comes in and occupies the place with no questions asked. My question is why is there favouritsm/booking system, i dunno racism?? and labels such as occupied in a 5 star hotel for "certain" guests. It should be a first come first serve basis. We all woke up early so we could get good seats and instead we had to undergo this.It was a good holiday till this happened.Leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth.Do not think I will revisit this place again!!I dont think i got my money's worth!!

FO girls did a great job attending and explain detail to guest on Resort Rooms, F&B and facilities during check in and check out fast and smoothly. You need to pay deposit when you check in but will be return if didnt used during your stay. F&B staff friendly, polite and helpful. Really have a good chat with them especially sorry cant remember the name chubby waitress really help me explaining its safe to drive to/from Resort during night time. Really appreciate them alot Rainforest Chalet 100⭐️/10⭐️ Outside look old, dirty, messy, dark, small but once you in room suprisingly spacious, clean, modern interior, full of toilet amenities, free titbits and beverages in the minibar. Big king size bed and comfortable toilet/bathroom clean spacious. Love my chalet floor squeeking when you step the floor remind me of Kampung house / my grandparent house. Bring back old memories. Room also provided torchlight, mosquito vape and insect aerosol. Big YES there going to be insect in your room InSha Allah all harmless and there aerosol, vape can be use to kill the insect so dont be suprise and what do you expect room in forest to be. Dinner & Breakfast at Dayang Cafe 3⭐️ / 10⭐️ Dinner was bad experience I order A la Carte Char Kway Teow ( delicious, good wok hay flavour, good portion, prawns sufficient ) Nasi Goreng Kampung horrible Didnt look like, taste like NGK. No vegetable and about 3 pieces of chicken. The rice not freshly cook. It taste or feel like I mean already cooked earlier and if there new order they just put in microwaves. But the thing is the rice is not even hot/warm. Acar not fresh just carrot and pickled green chillies and fried chicken not fresh it just a frozen prepack chicken. ( really disappointed ) I missed the fire show by the the beach as i have to go out to look for food to fill my hungry tummy. 1st day breakfast below average. Food didnt taste good, bland and suprisingly they served NGK for breakfast which to me it just same like the one i had for dinner. Didnt complaint but giving them a 2nd chance 2nd day breakfast it turnout to be much much much better. The food taste really good, tastier and good choices. Different from 1st day.So mgmt have to look upon this matter and have to monitor on their staff of doing their work. Pool/beach 10⭐️/10⭐️ Love the landscape pool with the waterfall alot of sunlounger by the pool and beach. Beach really private and cater only to Berjaya Langkawi guest and white sand just on the day i was there the wind is too strong during after. 5pm so hardky can swim. But still love the surrounding and views . Other facilities didnt try yet as i just come for a short vacay. Will definately come again and again again and bring along families and friend to try the experience i had. What i have review it just on what happen during my stay. I do hope management look upon the problem and can improved for future .... all the best Berjaya Langkawi Resort

Satisfactory stay, very good staff, poor food quality.

Ample parking, though high traffic probably because of school holiday. All staff very courteous and helpful. Check-in was swift. Thanks Jenny. Came with a goody bag that my kid finds it interesting. Hand sanitiser smells good. Buggy service was prompt and driver very courteous. Room was clean and very tidy. Even better than Pangkor Laut's room. TV color was dull (Room 231). At night, its very difficult to see the picture on TV. Bathroom heater worked extremely well. Better than Hard Rock Hotel Desaru. Aircond works very well. Loves the in-room swimming pool. One of the highlights. Dinner buffet at Umi Restaurant RM120 per pax is too expensive. Food selection and quality very poor e.g. Green tea has no taste. No tempura. Sashimi were limited. Cut of salmon mostly at fat area. Only has beef cook with onion ala Chinese style. Garlic rice was good. Chicken teriyaki looks tired and dry. White rice was good. Staff service was good. No prawn, except for prawn sushi. It's really below Sushi King quality. Roselle Restaurant buffet dinner is satisfactory. But not consideration to kids' diet. Served spicy crab, spicy chicken. Not suitable for my 10 years old kid. We thought its an International buffet style. Many family dropped by Uni Restaurant or Roselle Restaurant to "peep" at the food before deciding to eat-in. We finds it cheapskate for such family to do so. BUT, on hindsight, I should have done that to see what is suitable for us especially our kid. En. Aziz of Roselle Restaurant came to our rescue. I inform En. Aziz of our problem that the food is not suitable for my kid. En. Aziz listened and thi ks for a while saying they do have a la carte for room service. I asked En. Aziz whether can arrange for ala carte to eat at Roselle since me and wife are havng buffet dinner there. En. Aziz think a while and said will check with kitchen. En. Aziz came out and gave us OK sign. We are very happy. En. Aziz really was extraordinary. En. Aziz walked the extra mile in helping us. En. Aziz really deserves special recognition and extra monetary reward from the management. The dessert with cranberries, almond flakes and mushroom soup are a must-try!. Very good. Buffet breakfast was acceptable. Limited choices. Mostly Asian style rather than international buffet style. Not great, but acceptable. My kid ended up eating roti canai, hashbrown and telur goreng. Guava juice was good. Not much activities here. Cycling looks like a favourite but we didn't try. Swimming pool was good. Check out was easy. Just drop off the key card into readied box. Conclusion : Satisfactory 3D2N trip but better eat outside.

3rd time back. GSR used to be legendary.

3rd visit. There's something different about this place after 4 years of being back here. The first two times, 2016 and 2018 were spectacular. There were way more activities and The Kid's Club was up and running then. Not this time, post-lockdown. This time, it wasn't crowded as we were there just before the mid year school holidays started. Good timing for us. There isn't the ice cream freezer anymore at breakfast. Breakfast spread was pretty much the same over a few days. However, quality of food is better than some 5 star hotels I've been in KL, taste wise. No complaints about the room (I had the Exec Seaview, King). The premise is kept clean and the staff were great. I could tell that there were lesser staff than before. I would like to honor the staff members who do their best at their job including housekeeping. Just a tad sad that we don't get that excitement to return anymore. GSR used to be known to me as committed with the kid's activities. Without the Kid's Club, it's lost its cool factor. I could be in Desaru or Langkawi. Another thing they had taken off is the free shuttle bus that used to go to Stairs Quay Mall and Gurney. This place was once legendary to me. Thanks for the memories. Once again, thanks to all the staff members. Keep it up.

THE WORSE HOTEL I EVER STAYED

Reviewed By Jeffreylim79

We check in to the hotel on 4 June 2022 around 10 pm. We got our room key (Tower 2, room 1444). As we enter the room my daughter was scared by the baby roaches running around in the toilet area. Then as we were about to take our bath, we found out that they only provided us with 2 towels (but during the booking we book a 3-person sharing room and we are charged for 3 persons). I called the room service and requested for an additional towel and waited for hours but they did not send it to our room. This is not all, the shower area was clog and as we took our shower the water rises as if we are in a flooding area. We complained this to the counter when we check out on the next day but till today they have not contacted us to refund or apologized to us for the unpleasant stay we had. THERE WILL BE NO MORE BOOKING OF THIS HOTEL FOR ME!!! TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS HOTEL.
