10 Points of Interest & Landmarks in Hanoi That You Shouldn't Miss

May 19, 2021 Cedrick Jardin

The charming Vietnamese capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside. Hanoi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or "ascending dragon," but it hasn't forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest. Lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city, which is easily explored by taxi.

We have made a round trip trough Asia and saw a lot. This place is amazing and so beautiful and tasteful with a lot of art statues, historical building, bridge, beautiful trees surrounded by mountains in the mist. After the touristic old center of Hanoi this was defenately what we needed to get a better idea of Vietnam’s culture. We went to the HD Hotel nearby and then the host arranged a taxi for us (return). We went there for one hour and it was an amazing experience. Also the ride to the palace was better since it gives a better picture of Vietnam than all hose tourist destinations. Cash entrance only

Pagoda But Thap

Reviewed By datyl2016

The history of this Pagoda is nearly 700 years ago but it was completely finished building in 17th century, which is more than 400 years ago. In short, you will love the Pagoda if you are an ancient architect addicted like me. The story is very interesting, the place is in a rural area of Bac Ninh province (nest to Hanoi) which is very peaceful and quite. You will for sure love the place.

Phung Hung Mural Street

Reviewed By chiangmaicharlies - Chiang Mai, Thailand

A long stretch of murals, each one within one of the arches under the train tracks along Phung Hung Street. They each projected a part of Hanoi's history or iconic images of Vietnam. Locals seem to love them and whenever I was there, they were taking photos of them or posing in front of them. Some are three dimensional and there's also a few sculptures included. When I visited there was also a photographic display along the same stretch of road. Sadly this was being taken down at the time, but perhaps they often put such displays here. Highly recommended.
