10 Nature & Parks in Niagara-on-the-Lake That You Shouldn't Miss

September 9, 2021 Darwin Bolte

In Canada's wine country, Niagara-on-the-Lake presents a well-preserved 19th-century village and its charms. Drive or bike through the area, stopping at wineries and Fort George National Historic Site. Ride along the Niagara Escarpment on horseback or book a white-water adventure at nearby Niagara Falls (you might have heard of them).

Niagara River Recreation Trail

This is our favourite bike ride each year, from Niagara-On-The-Lake to The Falls and back!! Either Spring of Fall - during the week is best to avoid the crowds, cut off the The Parkway at the Helicopter Rides (stop lights) and ride through the town of Niagara Falls to Clifton Hill, then back down to the river (much safer!!). About 52km round trip... pack a lunch & enjoy the Falls!!

Great place to learn more about the British experience in the War of 1812! Musicians, "troops" drilling in period costume, cannons, one original building and plenty of other realistically reconstructed buildings with detailed histories. Don't miss the musket firing drill! Kids loved it.

We visited this beautiful park in Queenston. There is a great monument that you can go to the top on. Plenty of picnic areas. Restrooms and lots of green space.

Simcoe Park

Whenever in NOTL we are at the Prince of Wales, Our preference of rooms overlook Simcoe Park. It's beautiful, any season, gorgeous. We were in NOTL during the 150th anniversary of Canadian government several years ago and I had the opportunity to watch a reenactment of the first speeches made of Parliament from our balcony and it hit me that I was in a former Canadian capital...that the ties between the U.S. and Canada were so much more important than we think of as we cross a remarkably fluid Border (not COVID time sensitive)...
