Oct 18 From Shaxi we moved on to a most spectacular national park not on many people's radar, not even to Chinese. I'm glad that our guide Nongbu took us to see LJ National Park. It is quite remote and a good distance from Shaxi, but worth the drive. Some areas remind me of America's Grand Canyon. A cable ropeway enabled us to reach to a mountain top with views not seen by very many. Be prepared for lots of steps and hiking. Apparently among those who know about this place are hardcore mountain climbers. We encountered a young couple leaving our next stay, Liming Tent Hotel.

First thing make sure you get a good driver as it is not a good road lots of landslides and mountainous so choose well, this will depend on what the weather conditions are like, rain is bad. we went through a few drivers before we settled for one which was a fair choice. You will most likely be leaving from Shangri la (zhongdian) very early in the morning as the monkeys only come down to feed in the morning. A trip to this area is not complete without seeing these very rare Monkeys. The monkeys come so close with in 2-3 mts away which blew us away, If you can, go and see these animals. We missed going to see them the first time in Yunnan but not the second.

Potatso National Park is the first national park in China. It is located in the centre of Three Parllel Rivers, and is the World Natural Heritage. It is about 22 km from the Shangri-La County. It is a beautiful park surrounded with coniferous forests. Our walk took 3-4 hour slow and cool walk (in early Nov 2019) along the nice wooden-planked walkway from the starting to the endpoint. In the middle of the park, Shudu Lake, with its blue water under the clear blue sky, is a beauty of Mother's Nature. The reflection of the white clouds onto the blue water is an amazing beauty of its own. Chipmunks and small adorable birds contributed to the joy of our walk from the start to the endpoint. If walking is not a problem, walk and soak into the park's natural beauty is a better choice than taking a boat across the lake to cut down walking time.

The canyon is located at the alpine area of Qinghai-Tibet plateau. Very scenic place for a good walk. One can only go up the canyon via a paid guided tour bus which will carry tourists to the different tourist points at the canyon. Started the tour at the top of the mountain where there's a small beautiful Tibetan monastery and moved downward the mountain. One will be amazed with the view along the drive and walk. I went during end Autumn and was still mesmerized by the view.
